18:56 Fun fact - You've Been Flirting Again was a huge milestone for Björk as a composer/arranger/producer. It was the first string arrangement she ever did 100% by herself. With Debut she outsourced the strings to India, and with songs like Isobel she worked with a collaborator. But she has mentioned how writing this song really felt like she had reached an important milestone and this confidence as a producer will obviously come to grow in future albums. ADVICE for you When you listen Vulnicura - it is helpful to know she did ALL the strings on that single-handedly. Compare that to this moment and the growth is insane. (Spoiler: the string arrangements on Vulnicura are incredible.)

do you have a source? according to the music credits taken from the album's liner notes (as well as countless sources online) the strings on "you've been flirting again" were arranged by brazilian composer eumir deodato with bjork...

13:08 Björk has talked many times how she wanted Post to be as sonically diverse as possible, to the point of borderline insanity. I think as a whole, all these contrasting colors come together and the album sounds like a fluorescent patchwork of neon lights - this is her interpretation in living in the vibrant scene in 90s London. I think the reason she included It's Oh So Quiet is it really just helped her dial up that insanity to the next level. I think the way this song sticks out SO MUCH ironically makes the experimental concept of the album really come together. This is kind of shown also by how she immediately transitions into Enjoy (cowritten with Tricky) - this jarring transition is really intentional, making the technicolor roller coaster ride of this album even more dizzying.

This is my favourite solo album from Bjork. I’m obsessed with how she uses her voice. The fist gig I went to here in the UK was The Sugar Cubes at Preston town hall, circa 89/90. I remember thinking how can such a tiny lady have such a big voice!

12:58 I believe she said in an interview that she discovered a VHS of Its Oh So Quiet in an old thrift store on the side of the road when she was on the road for her Debut tour, the previous album. And it became kind of a tour anthem with her fellow bandmates so she kind of felt obligated to record it and it just stuck, so it was actually more of a personal decision to include it on the album rather than the label pushing for one thing or another.

11:59 I think it is interesting to hear you try to extrapolate a relatable interpretation of The Modern Things - I have always just taken it as a bit of surrealist storytime. Also, I had no idea that the Icelandic in that song was translatable, I thought it was just gibberish/scat. Learned something new about Björk today!

OK seen her about 20 times since, in a church in London, in her town hall in iceland an opera house, everywhere but you never forget your first time x (PS yes ive met her and said hello, shes BEAUTIFUL in real life. It takes your breath away. Also while im here, please when you get to Selmasongs watch dancer in the dark first on your own. Dont comment through it watch it ALONE. Yes a lot of the scripts improvised ect but youll ruin it talking over the top. After youve seen it then you can review selmasongs (the soundtrack). Its amazing x

hey, i love Bjork thanks for the reaction and lyrics analysis, I would like to recommend "White Lilies Island" , a sophomore LP by "Natalie Imbruglia" (released in 2001), it's one of the top album with the rock edge sound and sophisticated lyrics.

Each song on the album is a letter to someone in her life. Enjoy is a letter to a place: London, where she moved to from Iceland. It’s about the excitement of the city.
PS Isobel is my favorite Bjork song, so relate to your reaction there.

i know it's in the lyrics but I associate the feeling of hyperbalad with times in my life where I had a routine of getting up early before dawn. there's a certain kind of vitality in the quiet at that time

such an iconic BJORK album. Thanks :)
Regarding Hyperballad; I read that on Bjork's old website, it's based on an article she read that when two lovers meet and have sex there are hormones in their bodies that's makes them addicted to each other, but these hormones wear off in 2 or 3 years in most human beings and then it comes down to how much they really love each other and how well they built up the relationship and how much they can still nourish it without Nature's help.
So, in this song, it's the morning meditations she does at the top of the mountain that keeps her sane and ready for the day and for the relationship. She loves her partner and willing to put the effort in. I found that fascinating and beautiful and so deep. cheers :)

It's a very different experience, but you might enjoy checking out her punk band, The Sugarcubes. There's a lot less soundscape experience, but there's a lot more playfulness in the singing and weirdness in a way that's much more guitar-based and 80s. You can kind of see how she gets to be 90s Bjork.
tbh, I was a little disappointed in Debut, the first album, after being a giant Sugarcubes fan in the 80s and early 90s. It took Post to convince me that she was still the most important artist of our time.
