- Patchwork Stacatto is complete!! Who is Dappletail, you ask?
Dappletail is a background character from arc one and the prequels- she's a Thunderclan elder in arc one and dies just before the great journey in TNP. All in all, she's a background character.
I very much enjoy writing scripts for background characters who.... seem to have ACCIDENTAL narratives or character arcs. I thoroughly enjoyed combing through wiki articles to piece together Dappletail's life, and found it.... oddly compelling. She was born just before the great famine in Thunderclan, and when Harepounce dies from starvation, Dappletail's mother adopts her two kits. After this, though, Dappletail's father windflight begins to move away from her mother and beign seeing a much younger woman, Poppydawn, and shortly after her mother dies, windflight and poppydawn have kits. Later on, Dappletail begins seeing Stormtail, Bluestar's father, who is also a much older man already with a mate and kits, and specifically because he is with her during the raid on windclan, he is not around to protect moonflower when she's killed by hawkheart. This character arc is completely accidental and all just... background stuff, but putting it togehter felt like a story.... about a troubled girl who becomes something she despised somehow, through a vicious cycle, she watches her father cheat on her mother with a younger woman only to become the younger woman in stormtail's life, and then, despite how dearly she wants children, she never has any- I think that towards the end of her life, she picked up a habit of pathological or impulsive lying. IE, someone saying "my kit is deaf" and her saying "yeah, i had a deaf kit once, too" but her sisters all love her, and just say "yes, dappletail, we remember." because they have seen irreovcable tragedy together, and this is who they are now... maybe I'm rambling, but I've become very attached to this character and her development.
The theme for this MAP is cats with hair. why? I really couldn't tell you, but I decided I wanted to do that, so I did. Tada!

I now realize that Dappletail and Thrushpelt are littermates, and Speckletail and One-eye are littermates. However, both Thrushpelt and Speckletail are warriors at the beginning of Bluestar’s Prophecy while Dappletail and One-eye are apprentices. I think when Whitepaw’s eye was ruined by the badger she had to stay in the medicine den for a while, and Dapplepaw stayed with her and so they became warriors at the same time. This also explains why they are BOTH elders in Into The Wild. One-eye had fully lost sight in that eye, so it made sense for her to be in the elder’s den. However, Speckletail was still a warrior. Dappletail would have joined the elder’s den with her.

Another possible map like this for a minor character is Frostfur. Her mate Lionheart dies in battle with ShadowClan, and when Tigerclaw says that Ravenpaw (who is her brother btw) is to blame she easily falls for it because she wants to avenge her mate. She immediately blames Yellowfang when ShadowClan takes her kits. Then two of her kits (Cinderpelt and Brightheart) suffer horrible life-changing/threatening injuries. Then her littermate, Brindleface, is killed by Tigerstar. And finally she decides to stay behind when the Clans leave to go to the lake.
Now Frostfur is my favorite minor character.

I like to head canon that all the elders that stayed behind got taken by twolegs and then adopted and they lived the rest of their lives as kittypets in a warm home with food :)

I can't help but notice that there is a theme of cats older than the leaders (Dappletail, Barkface, Dustpelt, etc.) tend to live longer than their leaders. Barkface lasted a whole arc longer than Tallstar! Maybe I'm just crazy, but there's definitely something going on, and I'm inclined to blame Shrewpaw.
Fillory's Future I think it’s because it is a leaders job to put the clan before themselves and as a result they loose their lives fast defending the clan for example Pinestar lost 7 lives in battle

This really changed my view of thinking of Dappetail as an impatient, grouchy cat.

Honestly, I never knew any of this stuff about Dappletail. Draikinator, all your maps really bring out the sides of cats that we wouldn't even try to think about. I knew that Windflight was half-clan, but i had no idea about Dappletail being her daughter. I never noticed all the suffering and pain she went through, to me, she was just an elder who I would run my eyes over and not notice anything strange or unusual. The only thing I knew about Dappletail that actually interested me was that she and One-Eye were friends. I'm so glad I watched this, I would have never given a single thought about Dappletail if it weren't for you. I actually went back in the books and tried to find all the scenes with Dappletail! I love your work so much and your maps are so amazing, I love watching them and then being able to see the background characters with a whole new perspective. Sorry if there were some grammar mistakes in there.

Nate TOTALLY out done themselves. The writers accidental narration came to life through tons of work and reading and nate pretty much created and finished a puzzle that wasn't even there on purpose it's amazing

Birchfall needs a map just saying
A lot happened in his life too
He had to watch his all his litter mates die and be the last survivor
He was trained by the dark forest and stuff
Then the dovewing ivypool drama
Releazing that the dark forest was actually bad and his daughter ivy literally risks her life every night to spy
Also realizing that his other daughter has superpowers
Then he loses his parents ferncloud and Dustpelt (nearly disowned by him) and ALL his siblings (he is the last survivor of his family)
And finally, watching dove leave thunderclan forever with a cat from shadowclan.
Basically he legit loses almost everyone he loved (take that crowfeather)
Edit: also remember when he made friends with those 3 kits from shadowclan on the great journey. Yep he had to say goodbye them to ;((((

Seriously, I really do admire Dappletail, even if she's a background character! She had gone through so much throughout the books until the New Prophecy, and seeing the MAP fully completed made my admiration for her blossom even more!

What conditioner does Dappletail use

She gets the animators to draw out the purrfect hair conditioner for her that no one else can use. She also has a hair dryer and maybe some curlers somewhere. If you have ever washed a cat their fur gets super poofy after you dry them thurley.

also like I know bluestar was really disconnected with her father but it must have been extra weird for her too see a cat that was an apprentice when she was a kid dating her dad.

i remembered dappletail, but i was never interested in her. she just seemed like another boring background character, but watching this and reading the description totally changed my perspective and opinion of her! i’m planning on rereading all the warriors books i can manage throughout the summer, and i’m looking forward to paying close attention to whenever she’s mentioned. maybe not a super edition (she’s too much of a background character for that i think), but a novella for her would be so great. i’d love to just delve deep into her background and history with what she’s went through.

Gosh, this map was amazing! Your storytelling is amazing and I love the characterizations of them in this map!
This is beautiful, all the animators didan amazing job. You can see all the emotions dapple is feeling in each shot, and the colours reaply fit the song! And somehow, despite the mood of the colours, they git with the mood even with how many diffrent emotions are in this! In all, everyone in this map did amazing.

Damn.. this was wonderful to watch everyone’s parts in the video! Dappletail is a character I’m pretty sure not that much know nor care about, but seeing this map coming to life makes me feel so sorry for her. Dapple just wanted to have kits but she couldn’t. She never knew her mother, and her dad’s with a new girl. It’s heartbreaking. Then she had to witness her closest friend die, and when she made it to StarClan, she probably was very happy to be with the ones she loved.
