    Takeda is my favourite clan of Sengoku Jidai. I first learned about them through playing the original Samurai Warriors game and they've stuck with me ever since then. From the wise Shingen, to his generals like Masakage Yamagata, Masanobu Kosaka, to his brothers, Nobushige & Nobukado Takeda to his sons in Katsuyori and Yoshinobu.
    Takeda was an all around very interesting clan of Sengoku Jidai. Add their legendary cavalry and unique persona's their battles witht he Uesugi{Who are my second favourite clan of SJ} and their brief expansion before their initial downfall. They are a clan whose to be highly respected despite having their rough downfall, but at one point they came close to ruiling Japan and I know if they did conquer it back then, Japan would be a very different place than it is today. So in saying that, I'm glad *The Shogunate* is doing a video on them and shining some limelight in their history.

  • @hanchiman
    @hanchiman 3 роки тому +146

    The unmovable mountains, The Takedas. My favorite clan. I always choose them for some reason in games set in Sengoku period. I think it all due to the Kurosawa movie "Kagemusha". I think Shingen Takeda himself is a Sinophile, as he was an expert in Chinese poetry and really loved reading Sun Tzu art of war, even his famous red oni looking helmet with the white hair was imported from rare Yak hair from the "Mainland". Funny how I got this info from the videogame Nioh as you can receive Shingens helmet in the game with the description where the white hair came from.
    I remember someone mentioned that the Takeda clan might have been destroyed, but their descendant still survived probably thanks to Tokugawa Ieyasu who protected majority of the Takedas. Think one of them now work as a Political commentator.

    • @hanchiman
      @hanchiman 3 роки тому +5

      @Warren Shredder!! haha kinda ironic as historically they were destroyed by firearms. Another lost gem that is now abandonware and probably hard to find is "Takeda", think there are 3 series made of it by Magitech they had a pretty good theme song ua-cam.com/video/UtZe3PtyO1A/v-deo.html

    • @hanchiman
      @hanchiman 3 роки тому +11

      @Warren Shredder!! Haha to be honest, Nioh 2 seems like a disappointment the way they put the storyline wise. I would have preferred they focus on the Shimabara Rebellion with William Adam further adventure. Maybe William Adam have a longevity life and we see him living long life in Japan to see the Samurai culture end up to the Black Ships.
      Still credits to Nioh and Koei Tecmo, as they always research their history well. Alot of the samurai armor in the Nioh game are really based on the historical samurai armors to the point. For example Tachibana armor is exact like the historical one. Also they mention small tidbit info about the armor, Like Ieyasu changed into a small hat in his Osaka campaign due to old age. The only inaccurate portrayals are the weapons. Although majority of the sword do exist, including the 5 National Treasure of Japan swords.

The Takeda army was actually assembled in Suruga and Shinano, and had just defeated the advance force of Ieyasu and prepared to march on Nagoya when Shingen suffered another attack, and died. The rumours about him being wounded were (at least according to local historians in Yamanashi) invented by Hideyoshi, to make it sound like he had been "defeated"

    a lot of historians always talk about nobunaga and his genius and im not saying its not warranted but imho Shingen was the biggest and baddest of them all. He took a clan in a terrible province (kai) and turned them into a absolute powerhouse economically (which is the biggest deal considering how poor kai was) and militarily. the race for shinano was a perfect example of how close he managed his affairs, as the clan was on the verge of economic collapse the whole time, and i cant help but wonder if he had forced his way into the kanto how it would have turned out.
    and before all of you kenshin fans go "well he couldnt beat kenshin" look at the difference in their holdings, Echigo was a top 3 richest province in japan especially agriculturally, whereas shingen had to spend years building a irrigation system in kai to just feed his people.

    There is a manga I can recommend which was drawn by Yokoyama Mitsuteru from his Three Kingdom fame called "Takeda Shingen" . It basically tell the whole Shingen life in a matter of fact.

    Another idea for the series is to include battle maps for the battle you are talking about.

    The three woes of otherwise cool Sengoku period:
    - A schemer with mediocre battle prowess won the whole thing
    - Coolest clans lost in lackluster ways (Like Shingen's disease)
    - The biggest battle was decided by not fighting and turncoats.

    Hey there, love your channel :) I was curious if you could do a video on what Sumo was like in older times, anywhere between its beginnings in the 700s AD via the Sengoku Jidai or even the Tokugawa shogunate. Theres a fair number of videos on modern sumo, but not so much on medieval and early modern sumo

    As silent as the forest
    As swift as the wind
    As fierce as the fire
    As immovable as the mountain
    If you apply all four to your life, you will exceed but in the end, everything will come crumbling down around you.
    One element is missing, that of water so....
    As silent as the forest
    As swift as the wind
    As fierce as the fire
    As flexible as the water
    As immovable as the mountain
    Now the trick the mastering this is to know when to apply one aspect and the change to another when the time is right.
    I have studies much of Daimyo Takeda battle plans that I am able to get my hands on, I can not be 100% sure that they are his, let me say so I am not painted into a corner later. What I can see and tell when I compare Lord Takeda's battle plans to other top generals is that he fought war in a rigid manner. He employed very little back plans if part of his original battle plan failed. In some areas he was very flexible but in others not so. So when he no longer was head of the family, nobody was able to truly take his place to continue on.
    My opinion and things I have learned about Daimyo Takeda, thank you for making this video, thank you for reading my rant, I also hope that I have not offended anyone.

    Let your rapidity be that of the wind, your gentleness that of the forest. In raiding and plundering be like fire, be immovable like a mountain. These guys had one of the mightiest armies in Japan for a reason.

    i got into your channel with your Sengoku Jidai videos and i was curious if you'll consider doing similar videos for earlier eras of japan. I for one would be EXTREMELY interested in such content from you! The kamakura and Muromachi periods are such that i know little about other than that the Onin war and the Mongol invasions occurred. Regardless i thank you sincerely for the amazing content youve given us. and a special nod to your Gekokujo review video for getting me into Mount and Blade. feels like a bit of a disgrace id never heard of/ played the game until recently and I've already put in 100 hours just this past month alone

    Takeda Shigen is probably the most overrated Daimyo and his father, Takeda Nobutora the most underrated Daimyo in history. It was Takeda Nobutora who reunified Kai under Takeda rule and adopted Takeda calvary tactics. Takeda Nobutora was right about what must be done to preserve the clan. He tried to establish a much stronger and centralized governing structure which irked many of his vessals. He also planned on expanding into Kanto. This is very clear from the alliances he made. He allied with Imagawa in Suruga, Suwa and Murakami in Shinano which leaves only the narrow corridor through Shinano into Kozuke, a northern part of Kanto open to his expansion.
    After Shigen took over, he reneged on his father's alliances in Shinano and ultimately brought Uesugi Kenshin of Ichigo to intervene. After Imagawa Yoshimoto's defeat at Okehazama, Takeda Shigen reneged his alliance with Imagawa and took Suruga. In the end, all Takeda Shigen was able to take over was the former allies of Takeda clan. Due to the support he received from the vessals to become Daimyo, he wasn't able to reform Takeda clan that was needed to survive the changing times and the clan was destroyed not long after his death.
