He gets a fielder's choice for that and not a hit. The infielder could've thrown him out at 1st base but tried to get a double play by throwing to 2nd base first so you don't get a hit for that.

@@johnnysoccer1983 Yep, exactly. They go for the guy running towards 2nd base first because they want to try and get a double play. If they throw to 1st base first, then 1. it's harder to get the runner out at 2nd and 2. the runner is no longer "forced" to 2nd because 1st base is now empty
