This really helps to get ideas! I am a music student still learning mainly vocalist and wanting to really bring back this sound and my main influence and inspiration is Alice In Chains massive fan but also I love there sound and have couple ideas I want to try and play with I really enjoy these videos thanks!
Oh yeah! It's a very exciting thing learning harmony!
@emily, that's awesome, don't ever give up on it-- great music is timeless and id love to hear ya sing, play, anytime!!
Put it out there, cause ya never know!!❤🙏❤️🙏
"and then one guy sings something sad" took me the hell out LMFAO
Hahaha
some of theese examples are 4ths. A 4th is technically an inverted 5th, but I still find it helpful to differentiate between the two. When AIC harmonize in 3rds they sound awesome. When they harmonize in 5ths they sound strange and unique. When they harmonize in 4ths they are something else IMO. I LOVE that sound!
Yeah the 4th is somehow heavier!
@@TaylorJohnHardinyeah I also thought they did 4ths. Isn’t that a tritone?
@@messengercrow a tritone is in between a 4th and a 5th!
You should do “love hate love” live at the moore
Great idea!
Down in a hole does almost every combo in the book between Jerry and Layne lol, one of my favorite songs of all-time.. it's mostly minor and major thirds in the verse though, then 4ths and major 3rds in the chorus
Great point!
I wouldn't mind seeing it explained like in this video 👀
Dude your channel is amazing.
Layne would be proud of you as a fan, as a musician and as someone who spread love for music. Keep going
Hope you can explain some Layne's vocal story and techniques someday
Thank you! Hopefully my vids keep getting better. Thanks for watching!
Sorry about the mic stand in the way! Videos will only be getting better!
Damn dude I was expecting some explanation and I got it too. I wasn't expecting them pipes on this guy. Nice Vocals.
🤘👍😁
Insanely underrated channel I’m glad I found you
Thanks!
LOVE all your breakdowns of this band, these songs, and, of course, Layne. You’re obviously a huge fan, but also super knowledgeable. Thanks man; very much appreciated.
Thanks so much!!
This channel is criminally underrated.
Thank you!
I've been wanting this video for 30 years. Thanks Taylor!
Mee.too!! Haha thanks. There will be a part 2 for sure:)
I love your videos about aic!
Thanks!
Glad this showed up on my recommended. Great breakdown/analysis!
Welcome aboard! Thank you!
I saw these guys in the early 90s live and some of their performances are still with me. I play these songs all of the time when I practice guitar and I had NO idea why I loved them. This is great!
Thanks for watching!
As someone heavily influenced by these guys this is a cool demonstration. While I'm working on vocals I want to emulate some things and be careful of leaning too heavily into their style.
Thanks! Agreed! Good luck :)
Sea of Sorrow has such a great opening
You have an incredible voice and very good ear
Thank you :)
Awesome video
Thank you!
Amazing voice man
Thank you!
Solid work here, nice job! Lifelong Chains fan approved
Much appreciated!
Thanks for the video
You bet
Do you think Layne and Jerry knew enough music theory to come up with their formula or did it evolve organically?
The best way to know a formula is to use it over and over.. im guessing they knew what 5ths were but who knows!
What are they doing in Rotten Apple? Also I Stay Away. Can you dissect those?
Those are great examples of discreet harmony and guitar parts! Coming up! thanks for thee idea
Great video 😮 thanks!
You're welcome!
Can you avaliable automatics capitions, please.
E-flat tuning. Wow I never knew. I knew about the drop D. Great.
It's good stuff!

Loved the video! Cut some stories from these videos for instagram --- would love to come upon stories and be surprised. xoxo
Thansk!
0:22
2:57 these are all fourths
3:59
5:21 "power chord", 5th below, 4th on top
Good stuff
😉❤
What passionate emulation!
❤❤
Arent these 4ths
Yes, I should mention that Inverted 5th are 4ths :)
But ... Why are they 5ths, not 4ths? Convention? Something more sophisticated? Like, are you referring to them as 5ths because the dominant vocal line is the reference, not the lower, or because of the harmonic context?
I hate intervals.
Awesome video where the neck of a guitar is completely blocked by a microphone stand. Do you not review your material at all before posting it, or do you just not give a fuck?
Use your ears player!
They don't sound as haunting as Soundgarden. Superunkown is the darkest album I have ever heard.
Lots of truth there. !
Frogs is one of the darkest and most bewitching tracks you'll hear in your life, above any Soundgarden track
@Angel That's because you hear instead of listen.
No. Don't compare.
