I have been on UA-cam for TEN years and only this week hit 100k subscribers and a lot of what you’ve said about doubling down on your niche and learning what does/doesn’t work for you is hitting extra hard right now as I refocus for the next phase. I know NOTHING about tags and keywords and am binging your videos to learn as much as I can but I had to leave a comment. I’ve watched hundreds of similar channels over the years and so many feel like over the top mansplaining. You make the information accessible but don’t dumb it down to the point where it feels pointless or I feel like an idiot. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks and congrats on your success x

So true!! She's not way out of reach like some other channels that teach youtube who have a way bigger following. It's easier to imagine ourselves in her shoes, growing how she's grown, because we are witnessing everything as it happens. :D
TubeBuddy recommends less than 70 characters for the title, but I like the idea of stretching it to 90+ and it seems like you've had success with this. A few other tips for you folks. To get more subscribers, find the videos that are really performing well in your niche, sort the comments by newest, and give thoughtful answers to the commenters who are asking questions. The bigger channels simply don't have time to answer all the questions, but you can jump in and be a hero.

It's not tube buddy that's based on what you're searching for, that is based on what everyone is searching for. When you just, search straight through UA-cam as if you're browsing, those search results are based on the preferences and trends of whoevers searching, and of course, what results actually match your search. For example, if you or I search for youtube tips, we are more likely to see Catherine's videos than someone who has never watched her in the past. But when you use tube buddy, and search with the keyword tool, it's going to give you numbers based on statistics of everyone's searches. I think you can even change between your country, and worldwide. I hope that was helpful!
Hey there.. a great way to see this is by typing the key word you are looking for in the youtube search bar. For example: how to start a youtube channel And then follow that by any letter of the alphabet.. a or f or g And then see what youtube suggests. They suggest these terms based on what people are searching for
I really needed this. I filmed a complicated recipe that has taken me an extra four days to shoot than I initially expected. I was up to my last item on my to do list and was struggling to feel motivated to film after 20 takes. I went back to shooting after watching your video and got exactly what I wanted. Thanks so much!

MoReacts all she says you have to appear on UA-cam suggestions. UA-cam have to suggest your videos, but all depends on your watch time and engagement. Is that helpful? I don’t understand. That is not an advice. If you have some views let’s say “ 50.000 views” it is easier to get more because you are not too small. General knowledge.
To be honest, you didn't even know that your UA-cam channel was going to take off and you didn't knew that talking about UA-cam was going to be your niche, as your own chosen niche was Pinterest and Instagram. So now that you are talking about ''how the algorythm works'' and ''how to rank your youtube videos'' is very doubtful. UA-cam picked up your ''talking about UA-cam'' videos and that was kind of random, but you saw it and adapted your whole channel to it these days. But i have to say you adapted well to the changing situation and I think everyone would love to be in your position ;)

What do you think about extremely similar keywords, such as 'cat' - 'cats' or repeating and making combined keywords such as 'cats', 'funny', 'funny cats' - I've always wondered if it's necessary to guess the variations of possible things people type or is it more generic just so that UA-cam bot gets the gist of it?
Making a group of keywords today! My niche is small, so I find that I really have to work to figure out how to create genuine content while still being relevant to my audience as well as youtube. Your videos help me reach more people and that feels magical. Thanks Catherine!

I've a question: My click through rate is like 15% but my impressions remain at 180 or so? Why's that? Is there a reason why the impressions would be so low? (I used SEO, key words, tags, tweeted about it, etc). In fact the tweet got a lot of likes and retweets and a lot of link clicks and yet... impressions remain low. Do you know why that'd be? :/
I would love some tips for bringing a channel back to life. I have 100k subscribers but my views have declined tremendously after going to college and investing in my studies rather than my channel. Any advice? I’m assuming I’ll have to lose some more subscribers to gain more consistent viewers.

LOVE THIS!!! My analytics have really changed since I started using TubeBuddy a few months back and ranking in search. You are so right. The impressions were steadily going up. Great tips!!! But, if Tube Buddy search results are based on who is doing the searching, HOW are we supposed to know what OTHERS are searching for??!!
It's not tube buddy that's based on what you're searching for, that is based on what everyone is searching for. When you just, search straight through UA-cam as if you're browsing, those search results are based on the preferences and trends of whoevers searching, and of course, what results actually match your search. For example, if you or I search for youtube tips, we are more likely to see Catherine's videos than someone who has never watched her in the past.
But when you use tube buddy, and search with the keyword tool, it's going to give you numbers based on statistics of everyone's searches. I think you can even change between your country, and worldwide.

Hey there.. a great way to see this is by typing the key word you are looking for in the youtube search bar. For example: how to start a youtube channel
And then follow that by any letter of the alphabet.. a or f or g
And then see what youtube suggests.
They suggest these terms based on what people are searching for

MoReacts all she says you have to appear on UA-cam suggestions. UA-cam have to suggest your videos, but all depends on your watch time and engagement. Is that helpful? I don’t understand. That is not an advice. If you have some views let’s say “ 50.000 views” it is easier to get more because you are not too small. General knowledge.

To be honest, you didn't even know that your UA-cam channel was going to take off and you didn't knew that talking about UA-cam was going to be your niche, as your own chosen niche was Pinterest and Instagram. So now that you are talking about ''how the algorythm works'' and ''how to rank your youtube videos'' is very doubtful. UA-cam picked up your ''talking about UA-cam'' videos and that was kind of random, but you saw it and adapted your whole channel to it these days. But i have to say you adapted well to the changing situation and I think everyone would love to be in your position ;)

What do you think about extremely similar keywords, such as 'cat' - 'cats' or repeating and making combined keywords such as 'cats', 'funny', 'funny cats' - I've always wondered if it's necessary to guess the variations of possible things people type or is it more generic just so that UA-cam bot gets the gist of it?

I've a question: My click through rate is like 15% but my impressions remain at 180 or so? Why's that? Is there a reason why the impressions would be so low? (I used SEO, key words, tags, tweeted about it, etc). In fact the tweet got a lot of likes and retweets and a lot of link clicks and yet... impressions remain low. Do you know why that'd be? :/
When you're VERY new, the click thru rate is much higher... keep doing EVERYTHING right... optimizations will increase.
I would love some tips for bringing a channel back to life. I have 100k subscribers but my views have declined tremendously after going to college and investing in my studies rather than my channel. Any advice? I’m assuming I’ll have to lose some more subscribers to gain more consistent viewers.
