- This is a 2004 Toyota 3L engine from a Hilux, a simple and reliable japanese engine, it only take 2 minutes to watch, but there's a lot of man-hours and dedication in this little engine.

Should not have used so much RTV on the sump joint! Seen several of the Toyota range of engines with the oil pump strainer blocked by bits of the sealer that was squeezed out of the joint and washed off to float around inside the engine.
While you were at it... You didn't happen to make an indepth tutorial video, in case someone, sometime in an unspecified future time needed to rebuild his L-engine?
I can make a tutorial video for this engine in the next video . It was just an assembly process. Thanks

This engine had a problem with a rod that damage the crankshaft, so with fixed the crankshaft, rebuild the cylinder head, new pistons, new liner everything that we can replace, we did it.
@@blackdiesel9653 o ok cool mine doesn't have any damage but im almost done with it rebuild it with oem parts but having a hard tie finding info for breaking them in
@@anthony202586637 these engines are very reliable, ive seen with more than 800k km running great. Just take care with the cooling system
@@anthony202586637 Don't over rev the engine for the first few thousand Km.
That said, vary the revs, ie; don't drive it a constant rev during the break in period.
Do a thousand Km, then check the torque on the head bolts.
Also change the oil at a thousand Km and then every 5000 km after that. Of course change the oil filter at the same time.
Keep the revs at about 2000rpm max, for the first 1000km, then 2100 max for the second 1000km and increase 100rpm per thousand until you are going at speed that is comfortable.
The care you give your engine after a rebuild with pay you back with reliability and fuel consumption many time over.
Once it is run in, lets say 5000km all you need to do is change that oil every 5000km. Every super high mileage engine has had regular oil changes.

Where can I purchase the rebuild kit. I saw some available on amazon, are those reliable?
We bought on the local toyota dealer oem parts, you can find for generic parts built in Japan, AISIN or ASCO for the Water and oil pump, bearings you can find for TAIHO or NDC, pistons ART or Teikin and gaskest try to find the OEM.

Actually the 1kd is not a very reliable engine. It's goes alright until the intake gets clogged with soot from the turbo

We dont know, how the owner throw a rod through the oil pan, that was the cause of the rebuild haha

Garry Mcgrath diesels are by nature, make peak horsepower and operate efficiently. When running lean. Not rich. If you do your research. The original design pattern for a diesel combustion engine had water injection also for extra efficiency and lower exhaust gas temperatures. When it comes to diesels, it’s lots of air and correct fuelling for optimal performance
@Garry Mcgrath thats the most incorrect statement iv heard. Boost doesn't kill diesel, heat does. If its tuned correctly and not just wound the fuel the exhaust temps will be fine

3l is a 2.8, 5l is a 3litre .all 3 engines nearly identical .using the plus t setup of the 2lt u can bolt straight on 2 the 3l,5l
