Aldo gotta be higher, featherweight was pretty skilled for that era compared to the rest of the sport, and he’s had a better post champ career than Anderson by far.
Name 4 successful Aldo tittle defenses off the dome right now; I can’t because I am not 50 so I wasnt watching his reign but I also wasn’t watching Dominick Cruz or GSP and I can name some of there’s. To me the most impressive thing about Aldo isn’t his record it’s that he’s STILL competing at a high level. I know he’s not geriatric or anything but he’s got a lot of mileage and he’s still able to get it done against some decent young competition.

I think the skill difference between lightweight and featherweight is just as much a factor as the weight, I think the top featherweights are more skilled than the top lightweights

Cejudo defended at both weight classes, he defended against dillashaw at 125, and dom cruz at 135, if cejudo didn’t come back and stayed retired he would be top 10 all time to more people
Well that's the issue. A GOAT should know when it's best to retire. Cejudo originally retired at the best possible moment. Sure he was still very well capable of defending his title but he defended both belts and there was essentially nothing left for him to achieve.
But he then decided to come back from retirement and lost to Sterling and Merab. That simply tainted his legacy.
Anderson Silva and Aldo had the same issues. They kept fighting past their prime and yes he lost at 29 years to McGregor but keep in mind that he started his career very early which affected his longevity harder than others. Silva just kept fighting past his prime which took a dip in his legacy.
That's why GSP is the GOAT in my opinion. He retired at the right moment when he was at the top (sure he came back 4 years later but after the fight he retired for good). He had many title defenses and won the championship in 2 weight classes. He also redeemed his only 2 losses.

@@xreloadx1684 I mean that's fair. His legacy is insane and he fought absolute killers. There is one reason why I put him below GSP aside from the steroids or eye poke arguments.
It's the fact that he seemingly is avoiding Tom Aspinall. And that's understandable. He's 36, Aspinall is in his prime and he is looking insane right now. Jones is aware that Aspinall poses a huge risk to his legacy.
But the thing is that Aspinall has won the Interim Belt which kinda obligates Jones to fight him after Stipe. And it wouldn't have been a problem if Jones decided to vacate his belt after the injury since it was clear that he would be out for a long time. But he didn't.
He decided to keep his belt and now you have to live with the fact that if you retire after the Stipe fight, people will always point out that you ducked Aspinall which is a huge dent in your legacy. And is a GOAT really someone who ducks an opponent?
If he would have vacated the belt no one would demand an Aspinall matchup. He's 36 so past his prime and he could have said that he's doing the Stipe fight as a legacy fight and then retire. But he can't use that excuse now since he's still the champ.

GSP's competition was 100% weaker. Jones has the absolute best list of names in UFC history and it's not even a little close. Honestly, GSP had Hughes, Sean Shirk, BJ and who else that was truly great? Nick Diaz, Frank Trigg are both overrated and both fought GSP coming off a loss to the other high level middleweights. Jake Shields was on a great run but it's Jake Shields. Also you whine about Jones fighting middleweights (which is absurd, Lyoto is the only one that fought at middle weight and he is over 6') when some of GSP's biggest defenses were against BJ Penn's little ass and was still having trouble with him. GSP was tapping to strikes from Matt Serra while Jones is making legends of the sport look like tomato cans. If you want to pull the steroid card that's fine, but stop pretending he record is anything but the best in the UFC.

Kyoji Horiguchi was another notable Mighty Mouse defense that still competes today but yeah that's the downfall of fighting in the earlier eras there aren't as many names ESPECIALLY at those lower weight classes

People might say GSP is on steroids, there’s a reason Dana White was pissed at GSP during the end of his career and that’s because GSP wanted to introduce testing before USADA partnered with the UFC. Hence why Dana has hated him since and blasted him in his “robbery win” over Hendricks.

I like your list but I disagree with your take about khabib. I think the reason people rate khabib highly is because of the dominance. Like despite his short run he managed to have the most 10-8 rounds in ufc history, broke the single fight takedown record, beat more champs than Aldo and the same number of champs as Silva, and had the 4th longest win streak in UFC history. I understand why you don't consider khabib close to the top but I'm just putting the rationale behind it
He didn't beat the takedown record, technically. He holds the record for most takedowns in a single fight however the most takedowns landed overall in UFC history belongs to GSP

@TheDiamondHan khabib retired in the middle of his prime with 3 title defenses barely gave much of a chance for him to be beaten or exposed and most of the fights before then were against cans. Now silva on the other hand was the longest reigning champion in ufc history with one of the most amount of title defenses in ufc history. Your sitting here complaining about his 11 losses when almost all of them were on the back end of his career which khabib never got to. Khabib is the biggest ? In ufc history and will never in my eyes be a top 5 mma goat for that reason. Also a little thing to think about is khabibs coaches along with the rest of the Dagestan fighters have been taking "vitamins" or so they have been told by their coaches. I wouldn't be surprised if they are slipped roids in these "vitamins" as some of them have been popped for it. Not tryna say anything definite just giving u somethn to think on.

I really dislike Henry Cejudo but he has got to be higher. One of very few champ champs. Wins over all time greats in Mighty Mouse, Cruz and TJ. Only loss before he unretired was to GOAT Mighty Mouse and fluke loss to Benavidez which was a major robbery. His two losses coming out of retirement gotta be considered but are to another great of a division and a true #1 contender.
Anderson is so slept on and it’s sad.. people look at his losses when he was 38+ and take away from what he was like in his prime. Having seen him fight in his prime man he was just a different animal. That’s why he’s my profile pic
