    That's an insane amount of books to have read in a month!! Good for you with the dnf's.
    I totally agree re The Wren The Wren. 2.5* for me too!
    Every time you talk about the Joe Abercrombie I can't wait to try it, they sound so good! Xx

      It was a lot of books!!
      You definitely need to try Abercrombie. The first book is a little slow, but sets up everything for the rest of the series 🤩

    It’s weird to think that 1984, is one of the books banned in certain states in America. It was on my O’level syllabus in 1978.

      That is crazy! I don’t understand what justification there could be for banning it really. Book banning seems to have gone completely bonkers in the states lately 😣

    No worries on bailing on We! I did struggle to the end but I didn't feel it improved.
    I have read Julia now and it was really good, thoroughly enjoyed it!

    I hope you DNFed more books in June and July. Those DNF reviews are brilliant as well as the Ulysses review (Pooh & a Kidney😂). Call me pretentious (🤓🤔)but I loved The Wren, the Wren. I’m not going to start listing all the books we disagree on though.

      😂😂 we definitely seem to appreciate different things in books Brian. I am concerned that we agree on the poo and kidney chapter in Ulysses though 😂🙄💩

      It does feel like a very long time ago. Defo save yourself the effort of The Wren 😂

    My best reads in May were a JD Robb and a Dick Francis. Of course they're mysteries 🙃. I so wish I had liked The Blade Itself. No plot about drove me bonkers! LoL!

      @GemofBooks  Місяць тому

      The Blade Itself is definitely a setup novel, but I thought it was worth it for the rest of the series 😄

      @GemofBooks I'm now reading Dungeon Crawler Carl 😳. A week ago, I'd never heard of GameLit... I want to try a lot of SFF subgenres. I think it may be a sub subgenre...

    I think I dnf'd Samantha Irby after five or ten pages. Not for me either.
    Happy to see you lived Body of Light too! It has been one of my favourite books of last year.

    May was the beginning of the slump that ended in August for me.
    I did have three bangers in May.
    Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (5☆ but i keep thinking of ways the science was wrong)
    Dragon Rider by Taran Matharu (fairly standard fantasy but done very well)
    The Crypt by Scott Sigler (quite interesting sci fi horror)
    My most interesting flop was "I Myself am a Woman" by Ding Ling (real name Jiang Bingzhi) who was a very early Chinese feminist, and it was a small look at non western feminism but I wasn't very entertained or informed by it.

      @GemofBooks  Місяць тому +1

      I loved Hail Mary too! Rocky!!
      I really like the sound of the Dragon Rider 🤩
      Shame that was a flop - it sounds like a good premise 😣

    I love your house. My kind of lively surroundings, with kids and a dog. Never a dull moment. I’m the eldest of five so I’m used to lots of people .

      Never a dull moment is right 😂😂 I like to call it organised chaos, though I think in reality it’s just chaos 😆

    • @GemofBooks

      I’m not sure I did, it was a long time ago that I was reading it though, so maybe I’ve just forgotten 😂
