I have listened many times this sonata (more than 200 times) and always get goosebumps and chills. Many thanks for sharing. I love reading music while I listen it. Thanks, no words.
This sonata is outstanding. There is a feeling of passion which is rendered by rather simple figures. This gives to the sonata an extrordinary strengh and affective impact.
I would like to add that Schumann was not happy with this sonata, and composed imesiately after it rhe secons one in d minor. It is impossible to understand why. Comparing the two sonatas, I wonder if this sonata was not too much representative of present Schumann's mood at a time when he was totally afraid by the progression of his illness and mental trouble. For sure, it is only a personal feeling, definitely impossible to prove. The econd sonata exhibits more "self-control', probably partly artificial or, to be more positive, result of an outburst of willingness and lucidity.
This sonata is a marvel. It dates from this period when Schumann had psychological troubles. For that reason, works frome this period are usually underrated, which is the case of that mervellous first sonata, its beautiful themes , the way they are harmohized, contrapuctically elaborated and developed.
É uma injustiça muito grande q fizeram com as obras tardias de Schumann legando- as ao ostracismo. Nessas obras já temos o prenúncio de Brahms. Obrigado por compartilhar.
The violin part is written so low! It's no wonder many violists like Tabea Zimmerman or Maxim Rysanov take an opportunity to play this piece (without many changes), too.
Sonata muy bien equilibrada en todos sus movimientos. Expresa un gran romanticismo como la gran mayoria de las obras de este genial compositor delicado y enérgico a la vez.
unfortunately, schumann didn't have as much knowledge about the violin compared to other famous composers. its still a great piece, even though there are some weird parts for the violin. and the accompaniment is crazy.
Could you please elaborate on that? What exactly do you find weird regarding the violin part? As a pianist I can judge only about the piano part which may not be Chopin in terms of technical convenience but its absolutely playable and musically intriguing.

Yep. Got it. This is really the best performance I have heard so far. They don't barrel through it and have the best interpretation of "Mit leidenschaftlichem Ausdruck."
Albert de la Fuente It's possible to play this sonata with cello instead of violin. If the sonata is played with cello, this passage should be played by the piano one octave higher so you can hear the cello better.

That is one of the strangest, most interesting pieces I have heard in a long time.
Realmente bello!! Muchas gracias por compartirlo!!
A real classic for violinists
I love Schumann when he went totally insane! He became more free and melancholic!
no, no!! the end was near , but the resulting masterpiece obviously shows that the master still was in possession of his faculties.
Well, i just decided that this sonata is beautiful, and i wanna learn it. Love it.
Same here bro
Svirao sam je jedno vreme, klavirsku deonicu

This piece is apparently strongly related to the third piano trio.

Genius master robert.

@@bartjebartmans I guess the commenter was referring to the first movement's main theme?
Who are the performers? They are more sensitive than some of the other versions I've heard.

How did you get the partiture of the first one?
What does the 'with cello' at 18:30 mean? Where's the cello?
