      my only tip with wide bars is to try visualising beforehand which one of your right or left finger will hit the bar
      it's complicated at first but once you get used to preshot the bar you should be able to get it easily

    • @_lougz
      @_lougz 2 місяці тому +4

      usually it's my main hand that will hit the bar (if it's a wide one in the middle of the screen) but depending on the configuration it'll be the closest hand to hit it

      the way i learned to overcome this was to only focus on the small keys during those patterns. just follow the small keys, but keep the same beat in your taps. almost try and complete ignore the wide keys, as if they're there to distract you

    The hardest thing about trills is probably determining the speed of the trill. It's easy to get greats when the notes are packed together.
    The most problematic pattern for me is definitely stairs.
    Especially the 5 key ones with small notes like this:

    If you're comfortable with Tondemo Wonderz Expert I'd recommend picking up Brain Fluid Explosion Girl Expert as the whole song is just a whole big 155 BPM thrill, if you've got enough stamina it's a fairly straightforward and fun chart
    For keeping up with thrills/lines (also in other rhythm games this pattern is called a jackhammer) i advise feeling the tempo of your song as a metronome, my technique is kinda insane but bear with me because it has been incredibly helpful: slightry clank your TEETH to the song and try to synchronize clanking with tapping. Weird but helped me a lot

    saw this video recommended to me despite not being a PRSK player, pretty good video. I hate to be "that guy" but there's already a term for what you refer to as "switches" in this video - they're jacks. People will say I'm being pedantic here, but knowing the common terminology does help a lot if anyone needs to ask a better player (sometimes from another game) for advice. I know a lot of people who've asked me for advice and we have to spend like an hour basically playing telephone with terminology since I don't know what they're trying to say lol
    For future reference if people are confused about terminology (can't give examples since the last time I played the game was at JP launch):
    trills are basically spot on
    stairs are pretty self-explanatory, I think I got confused when I heard ladders in this video and mixed myself up
    chords are basically sets of notes you hit at the same time
    what people often refer to as "notespam" is either streams or rolls, from my experience - streams are just continuous patterns of notes with no real repetition, but rolls are a repeated sequence that reoccurs a set amount of times, often in what feels like a circular motion. you'll notice the difference pretty quickly once you see the two
    as for actual advice on trills, it's a combo of "be vaguely aware of music theory" and understanding your own physical limit as a player. hitting 32nd note trills/jacks at 150 BPM is gonna feel a lot different from 16th note trills/jacks at 180+ BPM, so I would suggest looking up the differences to familiarise yourself and get a feel for the proper timing. a lot of the time, you should probably use your gut feeling and choose whether to listen to either the music or timing, but the answer to "how do you hit faster trills" really is "just go faster" lol. maybe turn down your hi-speed if you're struggling that much and can deal with the change to your timing. tl;dr play game and enjoy game
    sorry if this comes off as elitist or something, I think it's pretty important for everyone to be on the right page so they get proper advice lol

      Ah thank you for this detailed comment !
      Im familiar with chords from playing iidx, but my dance gamer brain is hardwired to call them jumps lol
      And as for jacks vs switches
      The term I use is dependent on the context of the chart. There are jacks scattered throughout the game, but more commonly (imo) there are more charts that intend for you to switch your fingers. For example
      _
      -
      -
      -

    • @novalaxia
      @novalaxia 3 місяці тому

      this definition is fair enough! I'm kind of an oldhead who's never really heard of anyone tackle these kinds of patterns differently until watching this video, so it's interesting to see how we approach the methodology lol. my primary game is SDVX, so I think I'm viewing this topic from the perspective of someone who typically plays more traditional rhythm game formats rather than someone more familiar with touchscreen/mobile games - sorry if my comment came off as a bit too much!
      I think most people would generally define the example in your comment as something akin to a mini-jack, but I'll try not to be more pedantic than I've already been with this comment ^^;

    This is so instructive! I’ve got a lot of trouble dealing with trills/switches. I can’t FC melt on expert, and I used different ways to try make the trills ‘not’ a trill. For example, on Tondemo Wonderz master and melt master I bash my thumb on the switches. on parasol Cider, I trill with index and middle finger of my right hand, instead of my usual thumb stance(because it’s at the start) and the hold notes right after give me enough time to switch my stance back.

    • @Bobbias
      @Bobbias 2 місяці тому

      If you're familiar with how 4th, 8th, and 16th notes work, it shouldn't be that hard to understand 12ths and and 24ths. A 12th is when instead of splitting quarter notes in half to get 8th notes, you split it into 3rds. The same thing goes for splitting 8th notes. If you split them in half, you get 16ths, split them into 3 and you get 24ths.
      So for every quarter note you get 2 8th notes, 3 12th notes, 4 16th notes, and 6 24th notes.
      Grace notes refers to when a quiet note is places really close but slightly off time to another, usually louder note. Like, if you m have a bit that's a single 32nd before a note happens on a quarter note beat. That 32nd is a grace note.

    I'd also like to add that turning the early/late/flick display in settings helps a LOT with fast trills/switches - sometimes you can keep up the rhythm but you end up losing your combo because you've gone too fast/slow. Having it displayed if the greats are early and late can help massively in adjusting your tempo before you get a good (this helped me so much on the end of Melt master).
    Also the keeping audible rhythm point is great! I use my fingers but it helps for me to tap with a lot of force with trills, that way I hear it more loudly AND my fingers are less likely to stop coordinating and start losing the rhythm since there's more force behind the movements so your original movements are lost more slowly? I can't describe it exactly but it works (I do the opposite for note spam though, there it helps me if I press it quite lightly. Also for switches I just use two fingers on the same hand, it's so much easier for me to keep up a rhythm that way).
    Finally if you're struggling with a part like that in a song, it helps a lot to try to do a harder song with a similar part you know you can't do first - when you go back to the original song you're struggling with it'll seem much much easier.
    Great video!

    Great video! I'm a taiko player, so the things I've learned might not apply, but I've always found it valuable with the part about less focusing the sound effects and more focusing on your own inputs. Most games I even disable sound effects and let buttons do the sounds for me for the exact same reason as making it feel satisfying, so you're pretty spot on.
    I also found that fine-tuning an offset setting that works for you really helps for that especially, so you could match that tactile feeling of pressing a button to the music more precisely.

    if anything I have another tip: always calibrate when playing rhythm games! Trills/Switches are hard because they are the best representation on how unsynced your tap notes are to the music. you see, if playing spaced out music notes, you look at the notes, and tap it with music. with trills/switches, the looking part becomes hard, so you resort to tap with the music, which unfortunately isn't sync enough for you to rapidly tap with it. even miliseconds of delay affects everything.
    you know your game is properly calibrated if you realized you are tapping the notes without even putting an effort into it (and even starting to have real fun in playing rhythm games xD). it just become natural because the tap notes and the music are one and in sync.
    ...this tip might be super niche it might be working only for me, but I'll still put this out here in case this might still help someone xD

      Very interesting. I have a question as someone who plays Taiko and osu! (Mechanical keyboard)- is finger control on a touch display achieved with focusing on your wrist or raw finger dexterity?

    • @bunny-wm4rl
      @bunny-wm4rl 3 місяці тому +1

      @@SanzuRiver finger control does mostly involve your wrist as playing usually involves locking your fingers in place, utilsing your wrist strength to tap and using the elbow as a pivot, but certain multifinger patterns can involve more finger dexterity.
      trills and jacks in particular are probably comparable to high bpm singletapping in osu in terms of technique in a single hand.
      just my opinion, and this question is intriguing to me as well

      jacks are when a note appears in one lane more often and usually faster than other lanes ie. notes in all lane 1 in 8th, 16th or more subdivisions
      mini jacks are jacks but only 2-3 in a lane
      chords are usually 3 simultaneous notes but ive seen people say 2 notes as a chord
      quads are 4 simultaneous notes
      jumps are 2 notes and the name comes fron ddr as you jump to hit 2 notes at same time
      jump trills are essentially what this video is about execept each hand is is using 2 fingers ie. index and middle on right and left hand
      streams are spin off fron trills and if playing with 2 fingers usually means your moving your fingers otherwise for 4 fingers this is notes spaced out in 4 lanes
      rolls are used more often then stairs but its essentially same thing going from one lane to the other
      jump streams combine jumps and streams and is a standard in 4 key pattern
      hand streams combine streams and hands which involve 3 simultaneous notes and can often have minijacks in them
      chord jacks combine chords and jacks for the ultimate stamina pattern
      I think that is all of the patterns but I probably forgot some.

    I'm only finally getting ahold of the trill notes on expert! I found that fighting tooth and nail to FC Children Record did wonders to improve my skills on trills, while it definitely might not hold up for higher level master songs, I found it to be a good starting point for 27s and 28s on expert and some masters. But over all, Children Record is full of a lot of short trill bursts along with alternating trills, with it being fast paced I think that song helped me a ton!
    I feel like Snow Mix could be a good song to practice with too especially for tiny note trills which are especially annoying, they always ruin my full combo

    be the MUSIC!/april fools 2024 song (very quick trills near start and one small trill around the end)

      For notes really close to each other, you can hit the notes slightly above the sensor, so put one thumb on the sensor and the other slightly above in order for them to overlap a bit, resulting in an easier time hitting notes that are touching each other, especially if they’re small! For those three notes, I don’t have any specific advice, just try to tap two times with your most confident thumb. For the sliders, you may be moving too early, resulting in a missed note. Im not to familiar with the chart, but if there are green diamonds within the slider, try to move after your thumb touches the diamond. Sorry for the delayed response btw. @@glistica

    Arcaea player of 12.6ptt here, i think trills and streams are cool. the point of "ignoring the music" isn't too helpful however with some charts involving trills of higher note density such as 24ths or even 32nds in rare scenarios. You need to still pay attention to the song and know when to stop trilling.
    Also, the single lane patterns you call switches are usually called trains in the Arcaea community, because the connected notes look like train rails or something i guess. i think thats just neat to know

    • @laoloserr
      @laoloserr  3 місяці тому +3

      Trains is def a clever term to use lol
      And sorry if I wasnt clear in the video !
      I notice newer players will try to mash whenever a trill comes up so I usually tell them to be more deliberate with their taps (shift focus to your taps more) but not completely ignore the music.
      Its more to get their foot in the door and becoming more comfortable with these patterns so when they reach a difficulty with 24ths and 32nds theyre less likely to panic

    As someone who struggled a LOT on trills just a few months ago (even the really easy ones) but can now handle up to lv28/29, here were some of the songs I think that were the best for practice (in addition to the ones mentioned cause I agree with those too).
    Expert 23 - Sharing The World - I HAD so much trouble with this song, and found it harder than expert 25s due to how many trills there were. None of them were especially fast, but they were very long. Good practice for someone just getting into longer trills.
    Expert 24 - yomosugara kimi omou - There's a decently slow trill at the beginning of the chorus, pretty good for practice.
    Expert 24 - Forward - God I hate this chart, but no doubt it's a good song to get used to trills since there's so many of them including ones with strange rhythm and ones that have notes of varying sizes. Definitely challenging so maybe try a few after this first (I was fc-ing 27s before I fc-ed this).
    Expert 24 - phony - A good song to practice faster trills, since there's a decently fast one at the start of the song.
    Expert 25 - Blue Star - Similar to Sharing the World, but a bit harder as its a 25.
    Expert 25 - sweety glitch (EN Exclusive) - Dang all of these songs that start off on EN really love their trills, this one has multiple moderate speed trills too.
    Expert 25 - Daybreak Frontline - Way too many trills to count, none of which are too fast or challenging though. Could be a good one to get started with.
    Expert 25 - Cosmospice - 3 decently long trills at the beginning with various arrangements, good for practice. Lots of shorter 5 note trills later on in the song next to hold notes too.
    Expert 25 - Night Sky Patrol of Tomorrow - If you really want a challenge this is definitely a good song. The Level 25 rating is very misleading imo and this song is as difficult as most expert 26, and probably has the fastest trill so far leading into the chorus. There's also another trill shortly after that.
    Expert 26 - PianoxFortexScandal - Kinda like the ex26 version of Daybreak Frontline, so many trills but not the hardest.
    Expert 26 - junky nighttown orchestra - This song on the other hand has some pretty challenging trills, including some arrangement changes in the middle of the trill. Had a lot of trouble with this song so definitely watch out.
    Expert 26 - Unknown Mother Goose - One of the hardest expert 26 songs just due to the 3 trills in the middle of the song. The last one in particular is EXTREMELY long.
    Expert 28 - Brain Fluid Explosion Girl - The entire song is basically trills, though surprisingly they're not too difficult despite the ex28 rating. Just tap along with the rhythm and you'll be fine, the chart is a lot of fun.
    Expert 28 - Colorful Marine Snow - Also one of the easier ex28s and has a lot of trills especially some that force you to transition quickly to hold notes.
    Master 26 - ray - Generally one of the easier master charts, but there is a LONG trill near the end. It's pretty slow though so if you can do the expert26 ones this one will probably be fine for you too.
    Master 26 - alive - Lots of trills, lots of note size changes, just great practice in general.
    Master 27 - IF - I always thought of this as the mas27 version of alive (well on JP they're actually both mas27 now).
