You asked for this one! Maymay takes the legal pad cover an tweaks to add a pen holder!
So gather up those supplies and let's create!
~~Measurements~~
--Holder Back cut 1 piece of cardboard/chipboard to 6 1/4" x 8 1/4"
--Back Cover cut 1 piece of cardstock to 8 1/4" x 10 1/4" score on the 8 1/4" at 1 1/2" and 7 3/4" then turn to the 10 1/4" and score at 1 1/2" and 9 3/4"
--Cover cut 1 piece of cardstock to 8 1/4" x 6 3/4" and the on the 6 3/4" side score at 1/2"~~ 1" and 1 1/2"
Go to the center score mark and fold it back, then using a ruler mark at the 2" and 3" in pencil, now cut on those lines up to the score mark...SEE VIDEO
--Pad Pocket cut 1 piece of cardstock that measures 6 1/4" x 8 1/4" and score 1/2" on 3 sides
--Inside Pocket cut 1 piece of cardstock to 6 1/4" x 4" Score on three sides at 1/2"
--Inside Pocket Mat cut 1 piece of pattern paper to 6" x 3 3/4"
--Cover Mat cut 1 piece of pattern paper to 8" x 5"

You can go a step further and have your RSVP pen match your folio cover. Just unscrew the cap and insert a narrow piece of matching paper into the pen barrel and voila - a beautiful matching pen! Makes a great gift set.

I’ve been doing that for a few years now when making it matching set of a pad holder or card gift sets or a recipe folio book. They are fun to do and really completes the look❤️
I am an author of Women's Fiction and am currently working on my 2nd novel. I love this size legal pad for notes etc while I write. I can't wait to make one of these to use. I am going to make my first one for a friend whose father will be going home to hospice. After my father’s death and the death of a best friend last year, from experience, you are constantly taking notes on medicines, care, store needs, visitors, etc. Keeping this close by, would really be a help. Also….leaving prayerful notes to care givers and the loved one. I will write on the first page, things I can do and when, times I am to to town (we all live WAY out) and can pick up needed items.
Once again could not watch live but .... My daddy gave me a pen set for graduation (ballpoint and fountain pen) and I gave my daughter a set for her graduation just last month. I am a pen snob and now my daughter is too as she favours a fountain pen and now has a nice one! I have dozens of pens that I use in gift sets, they are small and have a metal barrel so are nice enough for someone like me to consider using. I am adding this project to my list of things to make for charities I craft for.
I love your voice, it has a very relaxing benefit during my down time of taking care of my 90 years young mom…….. thank you so dearly for giving me this time to look forward too.

I like to add glue onto of my sticky tape to get a little wiggle room but you still get the Good sticky tape hold.
My love tank is full, and you filled it for free, not $4.73 a gallon. Love your sweet friendship, teaching, and advice.
I loved this tutorial and I love you too! You had good reasons for not adding a pen to the notebook cover with a magnetic closure, HOWEVER, I still need a cover with both a closure and a pen. If I had to guess, you might have to add an additional flap to the edge because the cardstock is not wide enough to leave room for the closure flap too. I just cannot figure out how to add the closure flap to the end of the notepad. But if YOU could do it for us then everybody wins because we can make this how we want it with or without pen or magnetic closure. Do you think you could give it a try? I really need to get these done for my craft fair this year and am hoping for your help. And the pen could be inside or outside. I would so appreciate your help and experience. Thanks so much!!
I am very much a pen snob! I have small hands & slender fingers so the fat pens especially with the little rubber around it just isn't comfortable & doesn't work for me. I also an particular about the way a pen writes so... I love this pad folio & am going to make one for my daughter as she is a teacher, she will love it & use it alot! Something I learned from Jenofeve … use a glue stick over the sticky tape. This gives you some wiggle room when applying it to your project. It has save me many times !
not a pen person for notes. I LOVE the Pmate sharpwritter #2 mechanical pencils. Love your little legal pad binder, will make cute gifts for Xmas.
I think that you should include a pencil with the previous folio with the removable legal pad. Personally, the legal pad folio will be a temporary container. I use pencils for 'temporary' lists. I am definitely a PEN person, but I use my PEN (yes, my one and only favorite pen) for journalling and more permanent lists - such as Goals for the Month or Year. This folio would work for me as a 'stuff it in my pocket book for on the fly notes' that I then copy over after I get home. I have fallen back in love with the feel of pencils for my temporary lists. An added bonus is that when I copy over my temporary lists into their permanent home, I can keep my handwriting neater. :)

Love this project!! So glad you mentioned it being a good gift for men!! Maymay or Shannon: After you do the 3 scores for the pen holder, would it work to go ahead and cover that section with one piece of designer paper, THEN cut your pen loop? Then your pen loop would be covered with the paper too? Or am I thinking crazy and that wouldn’t work for some reason? Love to get your thoughts!! I’m looking forward to making these for Christmas gifts!!! 🥰
