Fun times! So great to meet Jim and hear his story. Thanks for letting me join you!
one of these days you will be mistaken for a sane guy :P keep up the good work and a great team !
Loved this video! My dad when he met my mother via 1949 he had a j3 cub and a 49 Indian chieftain no car. He just passed this year at 93 and was one of the most incredible people you could ever meet! Could see it in this owners eyes when that plane fired up. Keep your head up Bruce, love what you do!
Love seeing Jimmy and son with you guys doing a will it start . CLEAR PROP
Great video, you could see it in the owners eyes that he wanted to hop in and take off! We usually prime it then run it through eight blades with the mags off, and usually starts first time.
Why’s jimmy look like one of the guys from super troopers 😂
😂 I was like yeah and then I'm like, 🤔 No... more like Thomas Lennon, in Reno 911. Yup definitely!
Farva is who he looks like
Bruce I've been following your channel forever and Jimmy's.
Top-notch video boys.
So glad you and Jimmy are doing more videos together.
You're the diesel mechanic wizard. But I tell you what Jimmy's pretty damn knowledgeable when it comes to planes!!!
Keep up the great content!!!!!!!
You and Bruce really did this sweet guy a kindness. That thing is in good shape. What a great first plane this would be for someone. Great job!
Loved every minute of this video, that smile on the owners face was worth it all, once again, you guys did an awesome job.
Super cool will it start. Great job guys. You could see the joy in that mans eyes.
I appreciate your video. I have a 1946 JC3-65 with the upgrade to 85 hp. When putting the cowl back on I enjoyed your comments. Yes its a pain to get it in and to remember the order of how to replace holes on pins. With Bruce's comment about goofing off and gettinghis PPL I can say I did plenty of goofing off myself. i got y PPL at 46 and am still flying at 78. Over all that time I've only been able to get about 350 hours but I am keeping at it. I got a portion of the JC3 and even though we have 4 stakeholders I'm the only one working on (supervision of AIP) and flying the Cub. I was 77 when I finally got my tail-wheel certification and that was in the winter in Tennessee on a lumpy grass strip in cross winds. You're a farmer. Don't retire before you've met your goals.
At 29 min in you guys need to be more careful when turning the prop with the mags on. Great technique propping from behind. With impulse couplings there is no need to spin it hard, just pull down smooth and get your hand out of the way.
Use the primer to get some fuel in the carb then pull it through 3-4 times with the mags off. Then mags on and it “should” fire.
But good job tieing the tail and a safety pilot in the seat. And the old man was right about pulling through backwards as that clears the carb without introducing fuel when flooded.
Your collaborations with Jimmy are great! The content has really been exceptional lately
If anything you made that guys day getting that plane washed and started since his son died all those years ago… great collab with jimmy!!!!!!
I was surprised you didnt taxi up and down the field to give the controls a workout.
Great video glad you guys got a chance to get it running and show us a vintage airplane with a great guy thank you
The absolute worst thing for that airplane is to just sit there!! Looks really Clean. Wonder when it was last restored?
Two of us flew air ambulance and charters all week long in Northern Maine. On the weekend we got in a Champ about the same year and had a ball. Bought back great memories.
Love this video, no BS, in it. Great job, everyone 👍
Love the “ will it start”. Would love to see some old military trucks/equipment. Possibly some old swap buggies ?
Never push in the middle of the struts. They bend easily. Grab at top or bottom.
A J-3, the perfect trainer. A go nowhere fast, enjoying the countryside view, at a leisurely pace! 🙂
That is crazy the condition that plane is in for how old it is! I'm sure the camera helps out quite a bit, but she looks dam near new! The shots of the prop spinning then the RPM's sink up with the camera speed and how it looks to almost stop spinning has always been crazy to see. Cool video though I dug it!!
Brought a smile to my face, great content, especially the ending.
When you sprayed starting fluid in it and it did not fire. I knew you had a mag or switch problem. I have hand propped off a Tripacer with a Lycoming 150HP. You cannot prop it off with one hand. Two hands, curl your fingers and just use the tip of them and be moving back as you prop it. Clear instructions is a must and never turn the prop with the mag on until you have it in position to get a full swing. Be safe
Did ya'll hear that plane that was overhead when ya'll were trying to start it?? That was the Red Baron thinking, "Are ze going to get zer plane off ze ground??" 😂😂😂 Good work guys!!! She sounds great!! 👍👍
luv your vids i like seeing tinkering with all the different engines and it always awesome when they start keep up the good work!!!
Got a little choked up listening to her run. Was not expecting that. Dad taught me to take off and somewhat land in the ol' girl. Well, until one time when we were landing in Wesley Chapel, barely touched down and she began to creep off the runway. We were still moving at quite a clip. He asked (yelled) "do you got it?!". At one point I said I got no rudder, take the stick! He took it as it went off the runway. He used the brake and forced a ground loop without tapping the wing. Nice memory! Well, if Dad is still looking to pass her down to his boys, maybe we could work something out with his blessing 🤔. She needs to fly!
I always enjoy you’re videos Bruce 👍
The owner's attached to his beautiful Cub and rightfully so. Why should he let it go? All he needs is for a friendly local pilot to come out to his place and take him up once or twice a month so he can still get to fly it from the front seat. I hope that's what he can get - it'd mean a lot to him I'm sure.
Awesome video!!!
Awesome video, Bruce. I like the aviation Will it start I appreciate you, buddy 👍
That’s in great shape for being so old my grandpa is 87 born in 1935 such a diff world back then be cool to see it flying again
Bruce gotta work those crank muscles! Also grab it further out and get a lot more leverage 😏
HAY Bruce, loved the will it start video on the piper J3 airplane. I wish I was there so you could take me for a ride. Thank You for making all the videos !!
At least he kept it inside!
THIS IS HISTORY GUYS
on my c-85 at near the crank i pull hard and step bucket the same time. usually gets 2 or 3 compression strokes with one pull. most of time starts on second pull
Plane looks like it is close to air worthy it deserves to be flying.
I have some good old memories in one of those! When u was 5 I accidently hit the fuel cut off switch when my dad and I were flying over clearwater Beach! Had to LAnd on the beach
Loved the video, awesome job everyone 😃👍
its was just funny how there was a plane fly over and it started up like it thought oh i want to be up there in the sky
Love that sound 🎉
What a beautiful old bird!!!
paintful to watch. next time you start a long sitting classic, please change the oil (you can use inexpensive auto oil), spray oil in the cylinders (try to coat cylinder walls), spin prop with plugs out (at least bottom plugs) before trying to start (and make sure you see oil pressure reading on guage just by hand spinning with the plugs out. next replace plugs and start. after run (not more than ~5 minutes of run) - change the oil and filter (if it has one) back to aviation oil.
The ol pipers ain't haven't seen one I'm years and she looks pretty good those 1939 pipers good for flying around and stuff
NOW THAT'S COOL!
Lucky winner🎉
go jimmy go. crank that thing up and fly that bird
I think we all would like to see more videos with airplanes.
Bruce has no sense of fear😂. This guy just casually leaning back 😅
keep the clips coming
You can tell that nice guy isn't going to get rid of it. Too many memories attached to it. Shame it would make a nice flier but it's his to do what he wants with it.
Looks like cletus'sr buddy❤ was really hoping you were going to fly it
Bravo mon capitaine
Happy smile 😀 it’s a runner 👍
Jimmy I like the little Piper very cool.
You better get that license and take that man for a flight!
Jimmys world is NO expert! He just has more money than brains!
That spider doe 😂
jimmy brought me Bruce and Tim Gentry, very nice content
I want more or Jimmy and Bruce collabo
Tell me why I'm watching Bruce get this plane runnin and UA-cam gives me a add about a orange
Nice old man for letting u wash it on his property and using his eqepitment
Put some power into it lol 😂😂
The happiness 😊
Good experience "throw a prop" that's for sure.
🌏🇭🇲
These old J3s are bullet proof. So simple its hard to have something really go wrong that a bit of something out of a spray won't fix it.
Nice
that is a real nice old piper cub. Are getting it ?
I really hope someone puts some money into that cub ,,rebuilds the engine ,,get it airworthy and get it back up there ,sad to see such a beautiful machine just collect dust hey .
If your gonna sell the Piper cub you should sell it to a banner towing company so they can use it so it’s used for something
I'd like to see dual Stacks put back on Blue collar Cab over freightwire
That looks like one of the yellow planes used in WWII to spot U boats.
A fist bump instead of a handshake my how times have changed.
get that license back and take that man up,you can tell that was his baby, when ya get it maybe ya could toss out some of my air force dads ashes he was a private pilot and had a 172 for awhile I never got to go up with him and those days passed but I know he'd love a final flight
Yeeeeaaaaa!!!!!
WILL IT START....WILL IT START!!!!
Could someone please explain to me why people let things like this rot rather than allow someone to acquire and continue the legacy????
Unless you're an aircraft owner you won't understand. It's like a love affair between him and the plane. There was an old guy here where I live in France who had an old plane in the hangar that he flew well into his 80s. He then had to stop because as he said, his eyes began to give out. I found him a buyer for it but he would not sell. He died in his 90s and the aircraft is still there and I've been trying to buy it off his family just to save it.
its been sitting for 10 years turn in backwards for 30 turns// and then set for starting //you kids !!!!!!!
Ryan looks just like his Dad and he's growin' like a stinkweed!
Get the old Cleeter to fly over to his house in his little plane and take that plane for a flight. lol.
Starting the engine is the least of your problems. If the fabric is that old you would be taking your life in your hands trying to fly this thing. New fabric would run about $15,000
Awesome video bruce! My Dad was a pilot this video brings back memories. My dad loved planes.
I bought a hat, you happy now? 😂
Lol bs aside I wanted to hate your channel many times already but I really enjoy the will it starts. I’m a new mechanic I’ve overall learned a lot from it. Thanks for the good content.
is this piper cub for sale ? its a gem looks real nice.
Make sure she's clean no spiders or Kentucky cobras
Very Kewl
Almost like the one Cleetus has but his is a Carbon Cub instead of a piper cub anyway it's a cool plane I want to get me one of them
Old plane is nice lookin
I wonder if Whistling watching this?
Wow! These two need training!
DUDE!
Hey what’s up bro how are you much love
When are you going to do more work on blue collar cab over
Empty eight 765LB
What type of Petr do y'all use.... Just asking..
try to get all the dirt robbers out of it before you fly it
Get your license, you will never regret it your entire life.
🤘🏼🇺🇸
Should sell it to Cleetus...👍
