I have the Rex Konsul and I have had it for about a month. Before that I was using the Rex Envoy. I have only been wet shaving for about 3 months and have learned a lot along the way. Thanks Matt for these videos and all of the great products you provide, it has helped me tremendously on my wet shaving journey. I really like my Konsul and I do feel the slant action makes my shaving experience very enjoyable. I'm not surprised that you fashioned the Sentry to be like the Konsul on level 4 because that seems like a good starting point and is typically where I start my WTG pass. For anyone who is considering the Sentry - if you have the money to afford the Konsul, I would go Konsul because having the adjustability is very helpful in getting the most comfortable shave possible. I dial down the Konsul for areas around my chin and also with subsequent passes. That is the beauty of an adjustable razor. One other point I wanted to make. I was hoping with the Konsul I could get away with a three pass shave all over my face including my neck - where I have extremely coarse hair. While the Konsul was super comfortable everywhere during the shave, I got too close on my ATG shave on my neck and still got bad ingrown hairs in one small area where the grain changes direction. Nothing to do with the razor, it's just my neck grain, hair thickness, and my face. I now know, no matter what - that I simply can't shave ATG in this area or I will pay a day or two later and continue to pay until everything heals. Now that I have learned some lessons over the past few months, I really look forward to my morning shave. The Konsul paired with a Feather blade is simply perfect for me. Thanks Matt for bringing us these amazing razors!
As a black man who suffered from razor bumps I/we were told we can’t shouldn’t use razors I tried a safety razor and with watching these videos using the proper technique my bumps are gone! When I get my money together I am going to get the Rex Sentry! Thanks Matt!
Zingari Man definitely has some complex scents. I have "The Rambler" which is supposed to be tobacco, vanilla and red fruits. Somehow it initially comes off smelling like a tire shop with new tires mixed with champagne and then as you make the lather the smell of the red fruits comes through. It's really hard to describe the scent but a very good soap.
I’ve been comparing the Merkur 34C and 37C to see if the slant really lives up to its hype. The jury is still out but I am finding the 37C slant to be more comfortable on my sensitive skin. I like the look of the Sentry. Only wish it were a 2-piece like the 37C.
I've been using the Konsul for the past month now and it is by far my favourite razor, the rest just sit on my counter. I find that a slant is just a smoother shave with less tugging.
Watching the video of the Konsul Slant Adjustable Stainless Steel Razor from Razor Emporium has left me thoroughly impressed! The attention to detail and quality craftsmanship showcased in the video are truly remarkable. The adjustable feature seems like a fantastic addition, offering a tailored shaving experience. After seeing this, I'm seriously considering making it my next razor purchase. Thank you for the insightful review!
I stopped buying razors after I started using the Merkur sledgehammer because it’s so smooth and efficient on my tough beard and sensitive skin. The century looks very nice, so I will definitely give it a serious look. I haven’t tried Zingari Man soap but it’s on my list to try. Since discovering wet shaving in late 2021 I’m finding I’m in need of more storage for all the soaps, balms and splashes 😀
Hey Matt! How about a shave off with your Sentry vs. Parker Semi Slant? The Parker is more mild than other slants. For me, slants are terrific with my coarse beard. I get next to no irritation and i receive a BBS shave! Thanks for this video! JimG
I love that you are expanding your Rex offerings Matt, keep them coming! I am also happy to see that you have offerings for those that like mild to medium razors now. So many people in the "hobby" seem to say they like aggressive razors. I am not one of those, I like mild shaving razors that are efficient enough to do 2 pass shaves. I own the Konsul and love it. Does this razor have a comparable setting on the Rex Konsul ?
Nice! The Konsul is a nice fantasy but out of my price range. The Sentry is definitely above my comfort zone, but within stretch range. Something to mull over...
I've got about five Zingari soap/AS sets and they're all fantastic. I've also got 2 slants and they're great shavers. I get a smoother, gentler shave than even my Henson.
Saw this video a while back and finally ordered the Sentry. Man, what a great Razor! I got into DE shaving in March (~3mo ago), got the Envoy almost immediately and MAN it was tough, but it made me learn. I now get great shaves with the Envoy but it is not my go-to razor, I do enjoy using it here n there but I just need a little more care when using that razor. Enter the Sentry and first shave I just felt comfortable with it. It is nearly as close if not as close a shave as my Envoy but no real blade feel. It MAY become my new go-to razor. The only thing, I need to get used to loading the blade. It is not dangerous, but takes extra time making sure things line up. If I nail that down, it will likely be my new go-to razor.
Well, comparing apples to oranges, the Konsul is a do everything, anytime, anywhere type of razor, less forward blade feel yet blade gap can be changed to make it go from mild to wild. A favorite razor and has been since I got it. With that being said, the RazoRock Wunderbar is the non adjustable slant razor that competes head to head with the Konsul. I don't know how they built the Wunderbar for the cost and the slant on it is incredible, the blade is absolutely twisted beyond what I thought was possible in a razor. I will be buried with these two razors, they're that good. Hope the Sentry sells well and most likely I'll get one for the stable sooner than later. Thanks Matt💈👍💈
You sold me on that slant razor. After 3 days of growth, I have to use my Fatip or Gem OC then for daily use a Gem standard. The slant looks like it could help me out with my course beard 🧔..thanks!
Yes well Matt I use a Merkur -I think it is the 39C and I use it occasionally and find I get some good and sometimes not crash hot results with a Feather blade (my favourite brand) and would be interested in the Sentry if it is within my budget ( I live in Australia and the shipping usually kills buying one as I have one of your Rex razors already and if memory serves me right it was quite expensive back then. I shall still look up the razor on your site and see what I can do. Anyway a good video my friend it is really good that you show your products online!
I recommend Zingari Man's "The Watchman," personally. Talk about an odd, but interesting scent which is much more like a niche fragrance. Think of being in a lighthouse at the outskirts of a pier surrounded by water, except you are looking out into the lake / ocean in the middle of a raging storm and you're watching for ships to come in with all of the wind and crashing waves. A very dense aquatic fragrance that can be a bit weird at first (or it was to me) with ocean air, berries, grape, lime, ozone, earth, musk, patchouli, and sandalwood. The scent really is a placement scent that recreates the scene of a setting and places you in the middle of a storm, really. I've never smelled anything like it in my travels as both a fragrance enthusiast and traditional wet shaver.
Just placed my Sentry order from Australia. I have other Rex DE razors and their straight razor. Best hardware in the market. I haven't tried their soft products yet.
After shave I like balms and I would love it if you could go over different balms and rate them. I can't find much out there and I don't like the alcohol burn of splashes. Especially on irritated skin.
Would love to try a slant razor but I'm a little worried it would slice a mole i have on my neck. I have to use a very light touch to avoid nicking that mole. I would think a slant might increase the chance of slicing it even with very little pressure.
Will we ever be able to purchase a Konsul but with one of the Ambassador handles? Having the ability to mix and match per our preference would be cool.
I tried the Merkur soon after getting back into wet shaving, but at the time it a tad too aggressive for every day shaving. Now two years back into wet saving, I'm thinking efficiency sounds worth looking into.
Hi Matt. Great work once again. Wish I had access to your products here in South Africa. Curious to know if you have ever considered producing your own butterfly turn to open razor? All the best you and yours.
It would be cool if you guys made half DE blade razors. I really want to get the envoy, but I just can't seem to justify a traditional DE razor. Probably because I started with a Supply Co 2.0 and then eventually got a high proof razor... If I could get a half DE that doesn't clog up easily, that would be awesome.
So I totally just watched a subieshaves video with one of your razors and saw he uses a half DE in the Konsul and Ambassador... so I took the dive and ordered the Konsul. If I like it as much as I think I will, I will probably pick up the Ambassador as well because who doesn't like options?
Thank you for posting this excellent video. I think I want to get myself a high end razor like the Sentry or Envoy. I'm not sure which yet. This seems to be the first video where I have seen the Sentry being used. It has an interesting look.
Congratulations on a new razor. I've never seen a slanted razor. I'm confused how the blade sits at an angle in the razor, including on both sides? I use an adjustable razor. I change the dial to change the shave. But also don't know how it works, either.
@@RazorEmporium The slant seems like magic. The magic must come from the razor guard and base plate that puts the blade at an angle but makes sure the razor still goes over the skin at the correct height-distance. I guess I need to see it to believe it.
I struggled with slants due the increased efficiency when I first started on my wetshaving journey. Having neither particularly sensitive skin nor coarse hair, I did not find them to be for me….or, maybe I just didn’t find a slant that worked for me. Either way, I don’t think slants should be dismissed out of hand by anyone.
@@RazorEmporiumI had a non-descript head from Maggards and a 37C (the Merkur Sledgehammer; may have been 39C). I had the Maggards first, shortly after I started. The Merkur I had more success with as I acquired it later, but I found I needed to be on my toes, like when I use a Feather blade - great shaves, but not great enough to be worth the extra effort.
