Security Staff's Lovely Reaction during Jacob Collier's Audience Choir at Rock Werchter

- Unaware of what Jacob Collier can do to a crowd, this crew member of the festival is left in awe when the public starts hitting those high notes, telling his coworkers to remove their earplugs.
A huge stack of human voices all singing together at once is an awesome thing. I wonder if it's his first time experiencing that, it's magical.
As Staff im sure he hears a lot of crowds singing with the band, it was definitely his first time experiencing it in such a pure form though
I experienced it for decades in my youth. Every week. On sundays.
It is called church.
@@gertebert a few dozen old people isn’t the same as a 1000+ crowd. Plus today’s church music isn’t what it was way back when.
@@longtoast6788 You were there with me 50 years ago? How can you say that?
@@gertebert church music from 50 years ago is a godsend compared to today’s church music let me tell ya. Even then in the 70s it was starting to get weird though, the best and truest gospel is bluegrass from the 40s.
I love how his instincts told him "yeah. No one's rushing the stage during this. I'm gonna listen".
That's... Not why we have security at concerts...
@@NN-zg5bz I agree. I'm sure if one of the underweight jazz enthusiasts decided to rush the stage so that they might be able to "touch the hem of his garments", the security guard could totally handle it.
Also, lighten up.
Security a Jacob C gig: most peaceful job ever.
I thought your comment was dead on. They have ear pieces to communicate. He assessed the risks and decided life is about soaking in experiences and help propagate that to his colleagues. Great moment. It’s like smoking a hash joint behind the sound booth at a DMB concert.
@@andrewmorse2181 😂
He probably never heard of Jacob before and didnt expect something like this at all.
Then it absolutely blew him away
he probably saw this happening and realized it was gonna be an easy show for him because the audience was full of a bunch of music nerds lmao
wish i could listen to Jacob for the first time again
I love how he turns around to the other staff members basically saying "you gotta check this out!"
him telling all the other staff to take their ear plugs out as well made me so happy
took out the earpiece to hear it better, this is wholesome 🥹
I love how he's motioning to the other people to take their ear plugs out too 🌞 what an experience
Then the other guy put his back in like this shit gay
@@Jellyfriedfatness😂
I am leaving your 'wholesome' comment at 666. Let's take the stigma out of that number!
At 1:02 - Haha...the international sign for "goosebumps"!
There's nothing more brilliant, to me, than people being humans together
Love that he clapped at the end!!
I’ve toured the country for over a decade and never seen security do something like that. Which makes sense since it’s Jacob. That really means something. They don’t have the best seats in the house for sound and really are focused. Such an awesome moment.
What country?
He actually motions that he has goosebumps hahaha what an amazing moment
A Jacob Collier concert is a hell of an experience
This is a better, more genuine reaction video that any “X person reacts” YT video I’ve ever seen.
Something about seeing another human have that first time experience you’ll never get again is so wholesome.
Exactly!
My job is to look watch this crowd.
I am alert.
Dam guys, listen in!
Love when he notions to the hairs standing up on his arms, I hear ya man ❤
Ok, I don't like that people constantly taking photos, videos at events. But I must say, I'm very grateful for this one. It made me genuinely happy. Well and I started to cry. But that's normal for me.
I'm crying too ahah
If you’re going to take video at a concert like this. This is what you should capture. 😊
that's also normal for me haha. ❤
Don't take pharmaceuticals it's a global fraud by pharmaceutical companies.
We are meant to feel. They are only feelings!
Nah if im spending money on a concert im gonna record it for later lol I'll watch it and probs record it at chest height
1:03 the face of a completely star struck person, experiencing the worlds best God given instrument, Voice ❤
This wonderful man has that special sparkle, that we don't how to describe.
Capturing life served in the plate in front of you.
Not everyone gets to experience being a part of a choir so it's great that they all get to be a part of that, it's magical
I’m not crying, you’re crying
As a classical musician, I am used to feeling separated - by decades and centuries - from those who have shaped my musical life. I feel so privileged to be Jacob’s contemporary, and to witness his immortal gifts to the world of music, as they are given in real time. 🥰
Beautifully said! I never thought of this perspective. What a wonderful gift Jacob is to you.
Yes. My thoughts exactly. I have written a similar comment somewhere on UA-cam.
I don't know how you knew but of all the wonderful places to point your camera, I think you pointed your camera at the best possible place.
I think it has to do with the fact that the audience here really is SINGING harmonically, not just screaming, yelling and shouting as normally at pop or rock music concerts. It really sounds like chords in polyphonic choral singing. Beautiful!
A few things come into play on this. I used to have the fortune of being around Chick Corea now and then and he used to do this. I want to say he got the idea of it from Bobby McFerrin, either Bobby did this or had the idea of it.
Chick was giving a lecture and it came up "how did you get the idea to turn the audience into a choir" and he said the audience inspired him initially, but summary:
Obviously control is a HUGE factor. If you have poor control, you can't do this. You have to be definite, clear. The audience has to like you and want to do what you tell them. With live music, the "like/cooperative" factor is usually the easiest one, after all, they came to see you.
Human beings very easily go into agreement with each other, very easily go in tune with each other. They tend to sense "what is next" based on key and mode that is the context. Even if they aren't theory trained, they still SENSE what sounds right. So this is why the majority will go to the right "next note" when you direct them up or down. If the mode is something Aeolian going on, they may not know to call it by a specific description, but they'll know what SOUNDS right next. The few who get it wrong hear the majority and correct to it.
This works best if your audience tends to be either musicians or heavily into music.
Last but not least: Chick said you want at least fifty people doing it, ideally more, because the majority will be in key. Your ear actually tends to filter out the minority off key and focus on what it "needs" to hear. He said with musicians, even the ones slightly off key will be so close that it actually creates an analog "chorus" effect (ah ha, so that's why they call that effect "chorus...").
Moments like this are beyond words.
"...So Mr. Harris, after removing your own earpiece, you instructed the other guards to remove theirs, yes? And that was the moment Godzilla appeared at the back of the stage..."
Human voices raised in song is truly a beautiful thing.
Jacob is a magician. Imagine if everyone could literally come together to create art once in awhile without being worried about all of the other messy bits. Thanks for sharing this.
Forever one of the coolest things I’ve gotten to experience! This is your sign, if you have the opportunity to go to a Jacob Collier concert, DO IT!
I work at a large venue and moments like this make it all worth it
It gave me goosebumps too! Was singing along with Jacob last night in Rome. Magic
He has done this several times, I’d like to know how many. His audiences tend to be musicians and musically inclined so that is a multiplier. A university performance a few years ago with a much smaller audience resulted in an amazing impromptu choral performance. Would have loved to have been there for this one.
I think he does it at every single show for his most recent tour.
You’re right that his audience is probably more “musical” than the average but I don’t think you need musicians to pull this off. You just need good communication and instruction, which Jacob has.
Most people have a natural understanding of the major scale, even if they don’t know what it’s called.
His recent tour was recorded for each live and the different “choirs” from the concerts are used as backing vocals in some of his videos.
“All Night Long” is one where he used a concert choir…
But this particular piece here was used in several cities accross North America… I think by the time he arrived in Melbourne, he released a UA-cam video using the “North American Cities” as backing for a solo he was singing

Pretty sure JC is healing people with music and being music. This is the stuff of dreams!
It’s a beautiful thing…to see a strong man become filled with awe!
I feel ya, bro! It always gives me the chills, too! I'm glad this dude was there to experience it and perhaps get to know JC's crazy talent and energy! :D Thanks for sharing this vid, it was lovely indeed!
When everyone at your show is some kinda music nerd if not a musician…
It's also the natural power of a pentatonic scale. This is a festival crowd so it's likely not as similar to his crowd in general. That said, I've been at a smaller show of his - say, 500 people or so - and they were all nerds or musicians, and hearing this same effect where a large number have vocal training is a memory I won't quickly forget.
@@ibsulonnot been to but seen a smaller show where all the crowd were musical professionals, and holy balls. There was definitely a lot less noise (distortion).
@@ibsulon Not to be 'That Guy' but they're singing the major scale, not the pentatonic!
haha love the dude’s genuine response.. he heard something beautiful!
The power of the human voice
Gives me chills. Every. Time.
Music is powerful beyond comprehension. Does things we can’t quite understand or explain sometimes
I can imagine him telling the story to his family when he gets home.
Goosebumps
This is so cool!! Thanks for sharing with us.
I remember the securities being equally blown away during his show in London last year, it was amazing to witness them just straight up breaking protocol and staring at each other in disbelief. What a time to be alive :)
No more beautiful instrument than the human voice. Thank you God!
🤦♂️
🤦♂
And nothing more deadly than cancer, thank you god!
🤦♂
Looks like it gave him goosebumps 😃
He gets it
I Love that Security Guy
Was just another night at work then he took the time to enjoy magic...AWSOME I am so glad he did life is short!!
This video is hilarious without the sound 😂
What a moment in the history of music 👍
abolustely gorgeous.. he got Jacobed..!!!
- what instrument do you play?
- I play the audience
This is the best definition of the power of Music.
Beautiful!!
Young bro was still on duty mode
Thanks for sharing. You made my day!
So talented.
Easiest job in the world is being security at a Jacob collier concert
Wow... the best record with the audience choir I have ever listened. Really makes you cry, it's too beautiful.
What a beautiful moment 🙌👏❤️
I always get goosebumps when I hear the crowd sing ❤️ this is just amazing
I would happily watch the whole concert from this guy’s perspective!!
This is officially one of my favourite videos
So glad the security guards realized they could enjoy being in the centre of a choir rather than being a barrier between people. Lovely
This is so WHOLESOME 🥹
I love that there was a couple of seconds at the beginning before he saw what jacob was doing and was just watching the audience, could see him thinking "wait.. What?"
So nice to see and hear.
Made me cry even with sound off
He really played the audience, what thing to have been there. 👏👏
This is a philosophical and spiritual experience! My mind wades in the potential of our temperamental, challenged species.❤
Thank you JC, can't possibly use words here, they mean nothing compared to this.
He wanted to experience something truly magical and awe-inspiring. The man has a great soul.
great interaction!!
This is what Jacob does with his music. He brings joy and amusement to people's hearts.
Also this guy just unknowingly stumbled upon the experience every JC fan wants to be part of.
that sound makes me want to cry tears of joy what the fuck
I love that so much!
Auch nice guys :)
Most securities - especially at metal festivals - are super chill nice people ^^
Triads are so exciting.
Jacob is so brilliant man.
Proves we can communicate to each other subconsciously.
I’m going to see him at the Hollywood bowl in a couple of weeks. I can’t wait!
That really is spectacular
it's like going back to the sea of souls before entering this dimension.
super wholesome!
I was front row at jacob's concert in Atlanta and the security guy was absolutely in awe there as well. Even if you're not a musician or even musically inclined it's hard to not feel the magic of jacob in his element
Amazing
The way he looks up at Jacob near the end of the clip like "is this man a wizard or something???" 😂
That guy just lived my dream
Jacob is a Heaven's gift ❤
I love how he brushed his arms. He was referring to his chills!
Anyone else here feel the chills repeatedly!💞🥰💕🙏🙌🤍🌟🔥
If security is impressed… you’ve ascended
Don't forget that this is also where Metallica, QOTSA, Blink 182, Offspring, and other moshbands are playing. That makes the reaction of this steward all the more wholesome. Signaling the goosebumps on his arm did it for me.
This is really cool and sounds great job💖✨️✨️✨️
He thought he'd died & gone to heaven
This was far more impactful for me than seeing just the crowd part.
É uma das coisas mais emocionantes que já vi!!!
BUSSIN!!! 🔥🔥🔥
security guard forgot to security guard because of how beautiful this moment was ❤
That was so good
Best video on the internet.
How sweet! Between 1:06, and 1:08. The guy got goosebumps! I love this!
