This also works on Sony MHC-GZR777DA which is the model that I have. You just have to be in Demo mode and do the combination button taught in this video, Rec to tape , disk 3 and power on. The particular model that I have does not have a demo mode button on the stereo itself so you have to use remote control to get into the demo mode but If you don't have the remote control, don't worry because you can get in to "Common Test Mode" which will eventually get you to "Demo mode" when you turn it off and turn it back on and it will stay in "Demo mode" forever every time you plugged in your stereo it will go on "Demo mode" right away so you can do the combination right away the Rec to tape, disk 3 and power on button without having to go to Demo mode repeatedly. To get into the "Common Test Mode" just press the "Stop button", "Preset EQ button", "Disc 1" and "Power on" simultaneously and then you'll see a "VACS0" message on the screen then voala! you're in Common Test Mode then turn off your stereo and turn it back on you'll be in "Demo mode" forever.

My model number is MHC-GZR888D. It worked like a charm. However, I'd still like to get my hands on a new belt and have it fixed once and for all. Many Many Many thanks to you brother. I think i found it.. in my system, i have to make sure that i have to keep the system in the demo mode... in short in standby or clock mode this code is not working.. but it is working in demo mode. Once you plug the socket press power button TWICE in the audio system to go to Demo mode.. then press ReC TO tape+ Disk 3+ powe button in the audio system

I took it the first time to Sony center NRB for repair and they said it needs a new transformer costing USD 250, that is after paying them USD 25 for consultation. One of the technician there gave the phone number of a back street technician who would fix, and that is the guy I have been paying USD 60 to repair it by changing the AC ...ha ha ..he claims.

I have my SONY GZR 777d, but mine loses all of my configuration settings each time I turn it off and unprug the power cord from the wall socket! Everytime I turn it on it goes back to the settings of itself, for example volume turns to 13 every time I turn it on even if when I turn it off for the last time was 5 or 20 etc! It goes back to the radio station (99.30 each time) even if the last time I was playing DVD or Cassete or music using usb flash! It reset all of my configurations about sleep time, turn on time and loses the clock configurations I'm so tired of this, I started to hate Sony products! Is there anything I can do to solve my "SONY GZR-777d" problems?

I have a sony mhc-gnz77d which was working fine until yesterday afternoon.. When I turned it on in the evening the tape deck gave a weird noise and this issue arises... But this time the CD tray too keeps spinning with the tape deck motor running.. The set powers on for a few seconds and turns off with an eject message.. The tape belt seemed to be fine.. I try this method tho Recently the left speaker of this set started to give a weird spark noise when set at high volumes or when V GROOVE is turned on... I tried swapping the speaker wires at the back but the sound seems to travel with the left speaker... So I am currently using it disconnected from the main set Would you recommend me to repair this set or get a new one? Anyways like your video.. It was straight to the point and clean

Hi, Its normal for the CD to stop working after a while, dust gets into the mechanism and it will eventually stop working even if the laser has been replaced, but you know, I am 99% sure the original laser and lens will NOT need replacement, just a good cleaning with compressed air I've got the DVD mechanism cleaned from a local shop and they just cleaned the lens and it started working fine, no need for any laser replacement. I don't think the technician has replaced the original laser on your system, the only way of knowing it is to give the system to Sony's authorized service center, which I don't recommend because they charge a lot for a small repair.

Hi charlie,I have the same problem , cassette deck makes noise and the system goes to standby mode,I tried opening the both the side panels,saw a rubber band cable fallen off ,how to lift the top panel where the cassette deck is there,unable to pull it up,not sure which screw to unscrew!!!

Same issue with Sony MHC-EC99i but no tapes just stereo and CD. Turn it on and it flashes 'standby' then shuts off.
If belt broke, then how to place new belt to motor. My system giving same trouble. But there is no belt now. They cutout.

Sony should be reading this comments and improve their system......a cassette problem can't ruin the whole fun of a system
100% Agreed! It wasn't like this on older Sony stereos, they would work even if the cassette deck belt broke. This one just refuses to work.

I've got the DVD mechanism cleaned from a local shop and they just cleaned the lens and it started working fine, no need for any laser replacement. I don't think the technician has replaced the original laser on your system, the only way of knowing it is to give the system to Sony's authorized service center, which I don't recommend because they charge a lot for a small repair.

The Sony GZR888D Says "MECHA ERROR" (MECHANICAL ERROR) Which means the same thing as the eject error that the casette mechanism failed to operate
Yup! That's what it means. You'll need to find the service manual, there is a way to bypass this error.
