    Minute 2:36 it's called a 'Knochen' (Deutsch) and in English that means 'Bone'. We use it for bikes.

    I have switches with different diodrs- I think you are right they we're possibly attempting to do a similar mod using different diodes which is perfectly valid, but something went afoul obviously. There was a bungle in that jungle. Haha.

      Yeah, I think someone knew just enough to be dangerous or they wanted whatever clippers where in there before real bad. Yeah a rotary switch wouldve been the ticket on that huh? maybe a good idea for a mod for a future vid???? I keep having people ask me about modding solid sate amps? I reckon I could swap transistors and opamps like tube rolling? Hahaha

      @@rodblomley8517 Thank you so much Rod. I still have plenty to learn about electronics myself I learned a lot from PeteyTwoFinger. I had always tinkered with stuff since I was little and I've been playing guitar since I could walk but I ended up getting really into synthesizers making hip-hop music so I started to build a kinda modular synth thing from modules and guts out of stuff. Then when I moved into this house it had an old 70s bigscreen in the garage. I opened it up and saw all the wire and parts one could want. I then stayed up for about 3 days straight like a man possessed reading and learning about electronics and at the end I built a synth oscillator from the tv parts on a pine board. That was it... I now had the sickness the musical electronics building disease. Here we are now. LOL Thanks again. If you take baby steps and read enough and watch enough videos you can learn to do just about anything with all the info we have access to today. College is just pretty much for degrees to show to an employer at this point. you can learn a whole 4 years worth in a month now for free.

    Looks almost like the Fender Frontman 15G Amplifier Schematic with very little Changes in any of their Solid-state Amplifiers . Would it be possible to just use all BA4560 Op Amps or similar instead of using the TL072 BJT Op Amps in the circuit?

    • @williamcolvin3609
      @williamcolvin3609 2 роки тому

      Meant to say JFET Op Amps for the TL072 - Did not know if others would work since they do not have the JFET Input on them. The LM4562 - I have used in other amps and they work great for replacing bad 4548 Op Amps. Some of the Op Amps being Sold are said to be rebranded TL072 Op Amps and not an Upgrade at all.

      Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment William. I am afraid I dont know enough about the individual opp amps personally to make a good recommendation on this myself. I do know that many say the sound of a Jfet is superior to the sound of a transistor so my own move would be to install sockets and just "audition" a few different ones. I have however been talking with my friend Petey TwoFinger in emails about the opp amps he uses in his homemade amplifiers. He is a big fan of the NE5532 chips and has said that all the full size ones on ebay now days are fakes but tayda has the real ones. He uses a meter to check the internals to see if it has a diode on legs 2-3 if not its fake. So he has started getting the little daughter boards and ordering smt chips like ad828 and putting them on the daughter boards and plugging that in. I haven't messed around with enough different opp amps myself to have much info or preference. Even if making a fuzz circuit or distortion pedal... I never really look at names I just plug in different transistors etc. till I get the sound I like. Kinda hack style but Petey has been building pedals and amps for years and he says the only really dirty sounding opp amps he has encountered would be the lm308 and the lm741. He says if you want to call it mojo thats up to you but those chips sound nasty. LOL

    I modded my big muff by removing clipping diodes and I prefer it (also removed tone stack and a gain stage) I thought about doing the same no diode mod to a marshall AVT Valvestate because it loses volume on the higher gain channels and it has way more distortion than is usable anyway and it gets muddy and I use a tube screamer as a boost anyways for extra gain and tightness. I don't know if it'll work but I figured it's worth a shot and I can always just put the LEDs back or even put them a switch you can turn on and off

      Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment Estudios. Unfortunately I no longer have this amp but that can be done it should be as simple as wiring a guitar jack to the solder points on the switch and installing it on the back of the amp. I may try this on another small practice amp and post a video. I will put this in my notes and if/when I make a video with the idea I will give you a shout-out. Thanks again, Great Idea!

    I have the same amp from when I was little, and I played it too loud for too long and something popped and and thought I blew out the speaker. I recently found it in the trunk of my car and took a crack at fixing it. When I turned it on the clean channel had loud humming and even more so on the gain channel. The clean channel would not pick up the signal when I strummed but the gain channel did, but had loud intermittent crackling. I couldn't find much help online and found your video which was great for reference, on how to get the circuit board out. I noticed the input jack was loose and soldered it back in place. Now when I turn on the amp there is this motor boat sound. Maybe I screwed up when soldering. Any thoughts on what to check or look for? Nothing seems to be messed up on the circuit board, but there are some solder joint with a tiny bit of oxidation.

    • @heavymetalATC
      @heavymetalATC  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment Adam. The first thing I would do is touch up any solder joints you feel may be suspicious and then use some alcohol to really scrub the bottom of the board to get all the conductive solder flux off of the circuit. the motorboat oscillation tells me you have a loop happening somehow. It may just be flux or it could be a grounding issue, bad chip or leaky transistor. If you have any further issues or questions feel free to drop a comment... thanks again and best of luck to you and kudos for not throwing it out. Even if that board cant be fixed you could always turn it into a tube amp or other project.

      @heavymetalATC  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave a kind comment Pajama Jams. Unfortunately I no longer have this amp. It can definitely be done you would have to look at the schematic and find the trace that goes to the power section and remove a resistor or cut it with a razor and run a lead from each side to a jack for in and out and use one of those jacks with a built in switch contact that would connect and disconnect a jumper wire between them. It would be quite the job but im sure it could be done.

    I see the Blue and Green LEDs have the same voltage reading on your box. Is there any difference in the two gain or tone wise?

    • @heavymetalATC
      @heavymetalATC  2 роки тому

      Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment Ivan. Yes, I don't know exactly the reason, Id suspect it to be the type of chemical doping used to create different colors of light but I have found that All colors and sizes of LED create a slightly different sound and feel when used as a clipping diode. From what I learned from experiments building a pre-amp a few years back the green seemed to have a cleaner sound and would cut out or "velcro" less when dealing with low volumes or bias. Red was middle of the road from what I remember. I have a buddy that swears by the large ultra bright yellow ones. A 1N914 diode is very sputtery and fuzzy compared to any color LED in my past experience. If you have a breadboard or ever have a chance to take some alligator clips and pop a few different colors in and out of a circuit its definitely worth a try. Saying one is better than the others is subjective you may find that you personally like the sound of Pink or mini white as we all have different tastes, Ive never tried an infrared one from a remote. That might be a fun thing. Im going to put this in my notes and I might make a video plugging different LEDs into a breadboard circuit. If I do I'll give you a shoutout. In general though yes, green would be similar to blue but they would still sound slightly different in my own experience. I hope that helps Ivan. Have a great day and thank you for the interest and kind communication.
