    The #1 mechanic that I think needs to be tossed in the garbage is housing. It just serves as a third system to limit how large your cities can grow, along side food production and amenities, and amenities is a far more interesting system (even if I personally prefer the global happiness system of Civ V).

    • @MultiplayerMedia
      @MultiplayerMedia  3 місяці тому +5

      Hmm, that's an interesting point. If Civ 7 focuses more on resources and resource gathering, could housing be replaced by something a little more complex related to this? This would give you a choice between using your resource to build units, for example, or to expand your city to accommodate more people.
      Thanks for watching!

    Now personally, I love the Religious Victory, loyalty and the governors. I do think that the loyalty system needs a rework, as I think that there needs to be more policies and mechanics. You should be able to invoke martial law for example, to keep a city in check for longer. And as for Governors, I actually want to see them expanded. It would be fun if we had an even greater variety of governors, and could for example actually have Great People become governors instead of being spent, taking a leaf out of Endless Legend/Endless Space's book where your notable figures could not only be governors, but units on the map.

    • @MultiplayerMedia
      @MultiplayerMedia  3 місяці тому +1

      A feature like martial law would resolve a lot of the issues with loyalty for me! The ability to toggle it on and off like a game mode would be cool too.
      I never thought of using great people in that way but I like it.
      Thanks for watching Robert!

    The main thing I want for civ 7 is a good balance between tall and wide strategies. Imo going tall is extremely satisfying but in civ 6 it is extremely outclassed by wide empires. I think this could be changed by removing or altering the housing and amenity systems in civ 6 and by making some buildings or wonders that actually scale of population (like civ5 libraries).

    Districts are why I went back to civ 5. If it was just districts, it wouldn't be so bad, but with every wonder taking up real estate, it was a huge issue for me. Maybe wonders appear in assigned districts? I get they want to do more with the map, but this was a bad attempt that needs improvement.

    I think loyalty needs to be revamped: cities much farther from your empire should get negative loyalty regardless of nearby civs. Things like steam power, flight, radio, and the internet can mitigate this effect but not completely, just like how there’s always referendums in French overseas departments. On another note, you should be able to build buildings to mitigate them, such as police stations for your own cities and courthouse (like civ 5) for captured cities

    • @MultiplayerMedia
      @MultiplayerMedia  3 місяці тому

      Interesting ideas! I'd like a mechanic where certain sections of your empire (perhaps overseas) have less loyalty and if not managed correctly can revolt as a group of cities.

    I'd really like to see the tall vs wide dynamic we saw in civ 5 return. It was nice to have runs in civ 5 with only 5-6 massive cities that had incredible yields but land became so valuable due to districts and the specialists rework. I hate feeling the need to spam settlers early to compete with deity AI.

    Rather than "Keep or Trash", you may want to look at these mechanics again using Sid Meier's rule of thirds. The rule is that for each new major version of Civ, one third of the game's mechanics must work exactly like they did in the previous version, one third should be similar to the previous version but with some major enhancement, and one third should be all new.
    Obviously, the "all new" mechanics of Civ 7 are not known to us yet, and everyone has an opinion on what they should be (including navigable rivers!). But for the "keep" mechanics of Civ 6, which ones should be kept exactly as is, and which ones should be enhanced for Civ 7?

    • @MultiplayerMedia
      @MultiplayerMedia  3 місяці тому

      Thanks you for commenting this! On reflection, perhaps this wasn't the best approach to the topic but we're always looking to try out new video styles etc.
      Sid's Rule could have been a better basis for this video.
      Looking forward to finding out more about the new features.

    Diplomatic victory needs a rework. The math of it in VI never makes any sense. I'd rather it be focused on how long you can be peaceful, how often you jump in to help others, how many strong alliances you can forge, etc. Religious victory is fine in theory but in VI it is super tedious. As is, I just go for science/culture victory. One of the paths becomes fairly apparent at one point and then you just haul a$$ down it. Economic victory sounds interesting but feels like it could be very gamified, not that other systems in Civ aren't already, but Gold in Civ has always been something you can quickly gamify to snowball.

    I'll give you about a 3.5. While Civ 5's Happiness as well as Civ 6's Loyalty might be a bit annoying, they were 2 attempts to reduce City Spam. I'm okay with losing both in Civ 7 if they can find a better way to really combat that nasty plague that has dogged the Civ series as a cheap but all too effective tactic to win in Civ.

    not a game mechanic at all but one of my favourite civ memories growing up was the Throne room (I think in Civ 2?) . . . the advice was crap but could see it working with the governors/spies/envoy or science/culture screens or something . . a war room, I dunno . . . even if it was more of just a background to some other game mechanic areas that changed as you advanced and different to each civ as a nod back to Civ2 or an area when it gave more of an emphasis to bonuses that stem from your capital . . or something, who knows maybe its just where popped trophies go to live . . . I just remember that I loved seeing that screen evolving when I was growing up and it gave you somewhere in-game to develop that wasn't just the map or a skill tree.

    They should also remove era score, it's makes the game so uninteresting. Just imagine that every era you get into, you will be worried about not falling to the dark age and be trying to keep yourself into the normal age by building wonders and more stuff. That makes you not to have free will to enjoy the game

    Eureka mechanic is stupid and needs to go. Caravans also needs to go and commerce based on proximity and ressources should replace them. Stacking needs to comeback in some form or another....the ai cannot handle one unit oer tile and it's needlessly tedious for the players.

    That stupid mechanic where you can’t choose a pantheon if someone else picked it is complete BS. So too is “unmet player has finished x wonder you are building.” How do we know that? Have we met them? Let us finish the wonder just with less of a buff.

    • @nathanapplegate5374
      @nathanapplegate5374 2 місяці тому

      Also alternate leaders need different unique units, especially if they’re from different eras. Henry V is not going to have Redcoats like George III. Victoria and Elizabeth I aren’t going to have the same units either. For a truly different experience with the same Civ, let’s say the two rulers of America are Abe Lincoln and Reagan. Is Abe Lincoln going to have Navy Seals and F-15 fighters? Alternatively, is Ronald Reagan going to have rifle musket infantry and Parot guns? The answer is no. The alternative leaders having the same units and the same buffs, especially from different eras confused me in Civ 6

      As for governors, what we really need is a new mechanic. A region setting mechanic. Here’s how it could work. You select a group of cities, choose which one to make the regional capital, set that region’s specialization (agriculture, livestock, mining, education, entertainment & culture, later on industry oil, and tourism become available.) then you can assign a governor to that region. The governor goes to the regional capital and maintains order from there. Roads between cities increases order, loyalty, and efficiency.

    • @nathanapplegate5374
      @nathanapplegate5374 2 місяці тому

      One final thing: districts. I like them but they need to be scaled back. Fewer districts. Some should become city center buildings. Neighborhoods, encampment, diplomatic, harbor, entertainment, industrial, airport, aqueduct, and spaceport are fine, but we do not need the other districts. Those are useless and IRL the buildings in those districts are typically found in city centers. Also, wonders should NOT take up a whole tile to themselves. Why would oxford university need its own tile? Is that not just a special university? Why can’t it replace the university in the campus buildings? Lighthouse of Alexandria. Is that not a lighthouse? Why can’t it be built in place of a normal lighthouse?????
