- Sky News host Rita Panahi says a new Saturday Night Live sketch featuring their first non-binary cast member is the “cringiest” comedy ever broadcasted.
“That sad gaslighting is considered comedy in 2023,” Ms Panahi said.
“I am so embarrassed for everyone associated with that cringe-worthy trainwreck.”
I feel Norm Macdonald had it right, "you aren't funny. You're going after applause instead of laughter."

I remember the first time it started. There was nothing on after Midnight. Burt Sugerman was first to be on after midnight,, then came SNL. But I think Johnny was on till 1 maybe. He came on right after the 11 o'clock news.

It's terrible. It's not funny, I've seen comedians who are Left wing, I've seen comedians who are Right wing, I've seen comedians who never touch politics but this isn't funny at all, just an unfortunate individual with a mental health issue that wants us to hear the same voices she hears and gets angry with us when we don't hear them. 😕
She thinks that being loud and obnoxious is going to be interpreted as funny, when she's really just regurgitating "The Message" that's being repeated in nearly every magazine, TV ad, talk show, newscast, sitcom, TV drama, film, and every other medium out there. Sam Kinison was able to do loud and over the top because he was a legend. I don't know who this person is, nor do I care. And apparently, no one else does either.

it saddens me so very much to witness people having to come to the comments and state what should be obvious for thousands of years. It's just like having to comment "hey people, the sky is blue!" what kind of generation is this that is so absolutely dumb to the point of losing contact with reality like that -- they look up the sky and answer all other colors but blue. I thought the "are they gonna die up there" was funny but how is this different from the old character Pat? Except guessing what gender Pat was, was the joke. SNL has always hit and miss with their stuff, but I don't remember seeing news networks caring about it.

Who here remembers "Pat" back in the 80's early 90's? Wasn't that person technically non-binary? At least we weren't quite sure what the character was. We accepted Pat because it was funny and they didn't rub our faces in their gross agenda.
I thought of Pat too. Not being able to tell if Pat was a guy or a woman was the joke. That skit was hilarious. It would probably be considered offensive by today's standards, sadly.

I recently watched the famous Smothers Brothers "last show" when they were canceled in 1969. It was completely humorless, as well-- with skits that were supposed to be comedically barbed, but ended up being obvious ideology, with punchlines consisting of actors turning to glare at the camera. When I saw it then, as a teen college student, I was a half-assed activist, somewhat narcissistically captured by the "superior moral compass" of my age group. It took 50 years, but now I know better. The SNL skit reminds me of those days, unfortunately.

The movie “Network” - back in the 70s - had the main character - played by Peter Finch - exploding with rage : “I’m as mad as hell and I won’t take this anymore !” Almost 50 years later and the television program makers (CBS, NBC, etc) risk vast swaths of the population opening their windows and shouting those very same words !

FOX had it back in the 90s. It was called MadTV, and it was funnier than SNL during its initial run. I feel like they were far edgier than SNL at the time.

SNL hasn't been funny in more than a decade, closer to two decades now.
In fact, I find myself buying and watching older and very old television series now. I cut cable TV out of my life several years ago, no more network TV or the garbage they put out. The last modern TV show I watched was Person of Interest, the conclusion of that show is when I cut modern television out of my life. I used to watch late night TV like Kimmel and Corden, but quit in 2016 when they turned into political hacks. I think that was the same year POI ended and I left television behind.
Do yourselves a favor folks, get rid of your tv subscription services that fund the garbage like SNL, the networks, and fake news like CNN and MSNBC, just by subscribing you're paying a lot of fees and taxes that support this woke garbage.

Actually, I somewhat agree with this take on the situation in theory. I like what you say. However, the reality is that a lot of these scared and confused kids, some who live with dis-aporoving families and constant harassment and physical, mental, and sexual abuse (this is why it's important to have compassion toward good people and kids who just want to be themselves in this world)...turn to prostitution and harder drugs in order to "earn the money" to achieve their dreams. Not saying it's a right or good path, I'm just saying that's what it is. And there are an abundance of born males who will gladly pay these trans humans for sex. Let's have a deeper conversation...

Another way to look at it is that the seeds of truth, of self-knowledge, are abundant, undeniable, and clear. We spend most of our lives trying to get back to that beauty, those truths we know at our core as more pure innocent beings. Maybe taking a lifetime to contemplate is simply taking longer to get back to what we already know.
Now, let's ask... can a quicker decision bend a new reality in ways that can be considered mistakes? Possibly. It's really an individual choice. Sometimes kids know best and sometimes adults know better. I mean, looking at our world, can we really say only thoughtful adults know best? I find that laughable. And that's working with adults who have good intentions, which sadly I don't see as being the common baseline.

There's a TV in our break room that plays SNL all the time. My coworkers and I all sit there marvelling at how unfunny it is and theorizing on who it's for.
The "lol im random" comedy style used to be for young children's shows. I don't understand how an adult just randomly yelling "Lazer catz!" And "I like cheese!" is funny to other adults.
There are of course theories abound that virtually no humans are watching it and that the ratings, however small, are faked & that the show is financially subsidized by government groups. That's somehow less depressing than imagining a million people watching this.
They might as well change the name to Saturday Night Woke.
