OOTD and Justice are from the mini albums VillainS and VirtuouS respectively, 2 parts of the VS (Versus?) duology.
OOTD represents narcissism, being self-absorbed, fakeness and mundane grit.
Justice represents righteousness, selflessness, purity and rising beyond oneself.
The crown is the recurring motif symbolizing what OOTD represents, being an object of desire, being sought and worshipped and even requiring sacrificial victims. In Justice the crown was found and destroyed at the end, possibly freeing the 100th sacrificial victim.
This is roughly what I understood from these 2 MVs, other insomnias are free to correct me if I’m wrong.

    dreamcatcher \:D/
ootd and justice are a two part 'villians' storyline about injustices brought about by power and greed, as represented by the crown. ootd is actually satire about the superficial nature of certain industries. you can see all the imagery with photoshop, acting, etc where the lyrics contradict the imagery. for example they are saying they are flawless, but in one scene where one girl is made up like barbie, she is perfect from waist up but has bruises all over her legs. dreamcatcher has never done a song like ootd because as you said it sounds more like the stereotypical kpop song done by a lot of girl groups, typical flex song. so in a way they are actually taking a shot at that aspect of kpop. justice is just the conclusion and a call to action so when you see big money taking advantage of anything, maybe lift your voice lol. many of dreamcatcher's songs have some kind of social commentary.
just relax with uploads if work/travel makes it difficult. we'll still be here waiting for your next dreamcatcher video, assuming you can wait yourself lol

Lore, Simple Version: OOTD is about the vanity and fakeness of social media influencers (most of the symbolism is in the video instead of lyrics), represented by the crown. Justice is an anthem to fight for what is right, and they f*** up that crown.

"OOTD" became my favorite title track. It's really grungy and industrial sounding. Such a gritty unexpected area for them to venture into.
But "Justice" is now my favorite title track. It has that epic feel of "Deja Vu" but that huge classic anthemic rock arrangement that i just don't feel you even hear in contemporary rock these days just incredible

Hey there! I'm the person who made the OOTD comment in the community post. I didn't mean to say you won't like the song, so I apologize if my comment tainted your experience. I just meant to say that the song is different and if you go in with the expectation of Deja Vu and Scream, you MIGHT not like it. I (as someone who knew all their previous songs going into the OOTD release) went in expecting a typical Dreamcatcher title track, and OOTD wasn't that, so it took a few days and listens to grow to love it.
I'm glad you liked it so much from the first listen, though.
You have quite the journey ahead of you, these girls keeps us very spoiled.
Their b-sides are AMAZING and as someone else said, very diverse.
Don't shy away from the covers they do, either. They have a lot of those on youtube.

I dislike when people say OOTD is not rock. It is definitely rock. Maybe not J-Pop rock inspired like their old title tracks are, but it's alternate/grungy rock with a mix of something else.
I loved it immediately when I first heard it, but that's just me.

    @spiralwarrior6569 25 днів тому +3

At first glance you could think OOTD is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. The album is called VersuS VillainS, which makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe it's about useless instagram fashion-influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion.
The fact that fashion is moving ever faster makes it the most destructive industry to the planet only outdone by the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up.
The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra (arch enemy backwards) account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback.
It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song. And Handong standing in front of the camera with bruises all over her legs seems to be a comment on the merciless industry as well.
The music is highly interesting as well. The Rock is dirty and distorted. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is funk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.
Justice is part two of a two-part series, the first one is OOTD, which sounds very differently. Just like ymenehcra for OOTD, an account named 9mynameis1 has been posting messages before the comeback. She posted that her seven friends became obsessed with the crown and have not been responding anymore, which corresponds with the secret diary Siyeon (our powerhouse main vocal, also known as Wolfie) is reading. The text there reads "How are you? I'm worried because you aren't replying." So what we are seeing here is the seven friends (Dreamcatcher) getting rid of their obsession with the crown (materialism, narcicism) by literally destroying it, which makes their friend rejoin them (there is an eighth person joining them near the end).
There is also a lot of imagery about death and legendary figures like Valkyries or greek goddesses and legends. Reddit user PaintMeYaBasic has managed to identify these paintings in the MV: Hero by Edward Burne-Jones (from the tale of Hero and Leander), Valkyrie and a Dying Hero by Hans Makart, Hero and Leander by Salvator Rosa and finally "Justice" by Kenyon Cox in the center back. In the tale of Hero and Leander from Greek mythology, Hero is actually a priestess of Aphrodite (Venus in the Roman myths), so that is not the same as the hero who is taken from the battlefield by a Valkyrie in the other painting. But OOTD has the line "I'm Venus, Nephthys, call me a Goddess". It is likely there is a connection.
While OOTD was about falling for the temptations of modern life and a satire on narcicism (especially influencers and fast fashion), I believe Justice is telling us to fight those temptations for a better world. It is a call to become a warrior for good in the world and fight the materialism that seems to be the most important thing for many people in the developed countries. You can see JiU break the bonds that hold her down, and we should do the same.
Please not that this is just my interpretation. Art can be interpreted in different ways, and other opinions are just as valid as mine.
There are also many references to their older MVs in this. The paintings also have a deeper meaning in Chase me, there is a sword in Deja Vu and Scream, the bite into the apple is a callback to BEcause and the tree to the Dystopia trilogy - and so on. There are many more. The 8th figure in the end could also be JiU from Deja Vu, finally breaking the cycle of violence and providing justice.
Musically, I love the song. The guitars in the pre-chorus and chorus are pure heaven (just like Dongie with her wings). It has the right amount of heaviness for me, and it is an anthem and a call to action. I also love that they shortened the pre-chorus by two bars in the second half, throwing us into the chorus early. Justice is a brilliant, epic release, showing everyone that a group can still produce fantastic music and MVs after seven and a half years. I can't help it, I deeply respect these ladies and their whole team.

Yea man, there's no one who does it like Dreamcatcher.
Even though OOTD is more mainstream sounding it's got industrial rock influences that make it decidedly Dreamcatcher. It took me a while to wrap my head around it but I know others who loved it immediately.
Justice though, for me, was an instant favorite. It's so empowering and uplifting.
I have a feeling that you'll end up in a similar position as myself based on your musical influences. There are no Dreamcatcher songs that I don't absolutely love. I'm hundreds to thousands of listens in on most of them and they still hit as hard as they did the first time I heard them.

I think some people feel the need to put a disclaimer on OOTD because a lot of “fans” were negative about the song when it first came out and said it wasn’t rock enough, which is wild to me when the gritty, grungy bass reminds me so much of something you’d hear from Korn or Nine Inch Nails.
I looooove OOTD tho. It’s so cool and strikes the perfect balance between sounding epic and heavy but still feeling chill, if that makes sense. I’m still begging them to release an official instrumental XD And Justice is just….it’s fucking incredible. It’s the magnum opus of everything they’ve done so far. Every time they release a new album I don’t think it’s going to top the last one, and every time they prove me wrong.

Exactly! And like, so many of Dreamcatcher’s songs are “different”-it’s not like their discography is a monolith of one rock sound. Scream has major EDM elements, Boca has mombaton, BEcause has whatever BEcause has going on, and they’re all such loved parts of DC’s history. Makes me sad that for some reason OOTD isn’t viewed the same. Dreamcatcher in themselves have always been different and experimental.

Oh.... okay.... so the storyline for OOTD and JUSTICE is a LOT because with every comeback dreamcatcher always releases a "mystery code" and for OOTD and JUSTICE they have that in another level.
For the whole story for OOTD i recommend this video: ua-cam.com/video/YB95zXseGUY/v-deo.htmlsi=D7_k0iuG9ZYQnjpT
BUT for a resume on the lore: in OOTD the girls are the villains and have sacrificed a lot of people since 2017 (the debut). They have to sacrifice 100 people to make a perfect crown and the crown gives everything that they want. In the end of OOTD we can see a car chasing after a truck with the paint of a crown and the car leads to the girls dancing inside that big imperfect crown. And when JiU makes that move puting a crown in someone and the camera goes down and we see an arm is someone who was sacrificed.
Now with JUSTICE I don't get it all and we don't have a concrete theory yet but in JUSTICE we can see a part where Siyeon grabs the black crown and throws to gahyeon to shoot with an arrow and the crown is destroyed. In JUSTICE the girls are the "super heroes".
We had a LOT of mystery code to this comeback as well like insomnias (fandom name) receiving an email from ymenehcra (a real twitter account in OOTD's mystery code) and a PARALLEL WORLD GAME where you have to survive in all worlds created by dreamcatcher, but in the end of this game you had to put a password that was showed in OOTD MV and it leads to a youtube channel talking about multiverse. And in JUSTICE it has a lot of parts that reminds a lot of others MV's.
Anyway, insomnias in korea can also participate in a escape room that dreamcatcher created for this comeback so I think we can expect some lore in this escape room as well.
I don't know if you'll understand everything lol but the video that explains OOTD is really good and this thread is really good as well to JUSTICE mystery code: x.com/2Moori/status/1804903171309105524
Oh! And if you are going to watch the dance, you can watch JUSTICE live in dancEAR. It's really good.
And the whole mini album is just a masterpiece in my opinion, all the songs are perfect.

Name Pronunciation Guide. Starting with the one everyone gets wrong at first because of terrible romanization standards, Siyeon she-yawn. Not soft or subtle, it's an obvious "she" sound at the beginning.
It's okay to just say Dami, Gahyeon, and SuA. The alternate version is getting into Korean pronunciation. True the hard D sound (or G or S for the others) is a different letter in Hangul than the first letter of Dami's name, but so is the T sound. Dami's letter is firmer in the middle of words and a little softer at the beginning, kind of like saying d and t at the same time, but English speakers aren't used to making those sounds.... so it's okay to just say Dami.
JiU jee-yoo, SuA soo-ah, Handong hahn-dong, Dami dah-mee. Yoohyeon and Gahyeon have a soft breath in the middle but don't work hard at it yoo-hyawn, gah-hyawn.
(If someone promotes yoo-hyun they're ignoring a totally different vowel that sounds like uh while Yoohyeon's vowel rhymes with lawn.)

OOTD is a very very complex M/V and title track. And yes, it is not the traditional Dreamcatcher soundscape as explained below. It is a powerful satire that mocks the industry. Analogy I would say is NXDE by IDLE. Anyway, here is some context to better understand:
OOTD (Outfit of the Day) has at least three layers - Superficial, Satirical and Story layer. The first is the most obvious which is the self-empowering, confidence boosting "we are beautiful, successful, rich and famous" kind of message. JiU calls herself Venus, a goddess and being literally "drop dead gorgeous" at the end.. And it is just soo over the top :D But the thing is they deserve it and could actually do it, but it is just not them.
On a satirical layer this song is a huge middlefinger to the music industry in general and the superficial beauty where everything is all about the looks, everything staged and edited. The soundscape and parts of the M/V mimic generic girl crush concept sounds (what you do not really hear in the other 70+ songs Dreamcatcher has) and the M/V redraw parts of other M/Vs. Posing with cool Cars and Motorcycles (Siyeon - Sua), doing commercial and product placement (Gahyeon), just posing looking fabulous with high fashion (Handong and JiU wearing Dior), making fake drama for more views (Yoohyeon) etc. The rap section is told from the perspective of an idol how many of them act after getting some fame. And for all the previous pictures they empathize that those are fake, and show how they actually look from behind the scene. Handong with the bruises, JiU like a boxed product, the Yoohyeon drama that ends right after the cut and the behind the scene footage and rendering shots for the other three. They also incorporate really short cuts to ensure we do not take them seriously, like the face Handong makes, Yoohyeon burst into a laughter throughout the final chorus, Siyeon laughing etc. Also the "Look at my necklace" (that she is not wearing), "look at my black dress" while wearing street fashion... Now for this satirical layer they had to adjust a bit their delivery and this is what makes this track different and this is why many who love the Dreamcatcher signature sound complain. First they wanted to not just look but to sound a bit like a traditional K-Pop girl crush song. And those filters and distortions and tuning that make a not so great singer sound good actually take a bit away from parts as we can hear their natural voice less as normally they do not use it since they are such great singers and do not need it... Also they deliberately used lifeless robotic delivery through the "OOTD this my fashion shut up no more question", like OOTD is the only thing that matters, they have no opinion about anything else, do not ask them about anything else as this is the robotic answer you get. In the final chorus they are almost laughing while singing to highlight the sarcasm. Also the overly playful mocking tone of the "I am only doing better". All in all ppl complaining about why the track is different most probably miss this layer.
And finally there is the story layer where OOTD is the 1st part of a duology. Dreamcatcher members here are the villains who lure poor Shasha (the protagonist of the video, working as a video editor or graphical artist) into some kind of an augmented reality experience looking for the "crown" (aka fame, success whatever). The analogy I think is the follow the white rabbit from Matrix (along with many other Matrix style references throughout the M/V). And to appeal to Shasha they play the role of being great and rich and successful aligning with the narcissisms of the satirical layer. The story starts when Sasha searches for Dreamcatcher videos and stumbles upon the mysterious Dreamchat where Archenemy (spelled backwards, the 99th victim of Dreamcatcher) tells her about the power of the crown that she should be looking for luring her into this VR game. She follows the crown (drawn at the back of the truck) and at the end finds it but falls a victim of Dreamcatcher becoming the 100th sacrifice hence completing the crown. JiU even refers herself as Nephthys who is actually the goddess of death, decay, and darkness, mother of Anubis and Shasha falls when JiU "places the crown" on her head. This lore is not in the video, there were some external clues to put together this part.
