I swear when I read the book, I thought the Giver's room was much much smaller.
OMG SAMEEE
and not on the edge of a cliff 😂
lol same
I thought I was the only one
+SleepyPanda ME TOO OMG :O
Judging from this trailer, here are the differences between the book and the movie:
1. Jonas isn't 17. He's 12.
2. The elder isn't power crazy.
3. Jonas doesn't fall in love with Fiona. (Spoiler Alert: He marries Kira.)
4. Asher isn't a pilot. He's the director of recreation.
5. They don't have injections. They have pills.
6. Where is Gabe?
7. The Giver's annex is located behind the senior's house, not the edge of a random cliff.
8. The injections don't take away color. Color isn't given in the first place.
9. The Receiver of Memory is in charge, not the Elder.
10. The Elder has only one scene, which is during the Ceremony of the Twelve. She isn't seen entirely throughout the story.
11. Fiona doesn't agree with Jonas. In fact, she doesn't even know what Jonas is going through.
12. Jonas doesn't have an intense bicycle ride, nor does he fall from a waterfall.
Thank you.
+Jo Ann Nguyen exaxctly i was reading this with my fifth grade class and there are many diffrences between the book and movie and they didnt have such advanced technology
+Jo Ann Nguyen I don't remember Jonas marrying anyone, was there an epilogue that I missed out on or something?
May I be honest? Kay thx, I read all the books and to be honest the movie wasn't half bad for once. Like usually the movies make it worse and the books are more better, but if they added a few things like the movie The Giver added that the book didn't, I prefer the movie more. Call me crazy and all that. But that's how my opinion goes
Gabe is the baby he is carrying towards the end of the trailer

I'm here just for the millisecond of Taylor Swift
+Adore Angeles sane it's my favorite movie and book💖💖💖💖💕💕💕💕💕
and in the book he dont know he is the giver because they call it the receiver
they might have the ceremony in the mivie havent seen it yet but will after dibe reading book i am on chapter16
I can't believe they gave away the whole Release thing in the trailer! That's supposed to be a big shock in the book! I remember reading the chapter where the dad "releases" an infant and being horrified. How could they just give that away?!
Ikr! I really thought the movie would've been pretty similar to the book BUT NOTHING is near what the book had to the movie 😪
I mean, it was kinda predictable once they tell you that the elders get released as a ceremony.
Eh, not really. I thought being "released" meant going into the real world.
I frickin know
good thing I read the book before of knowing the movie existed
Once again, I feel like I've watched the whole movie. Trailers these days...might as well call them summaries.
Tekrothebountyhunter so true that it’s sad. I’m supposed to read this for school. Oh well. Time to watch the movie instead
Aren't trailers supposed to be summaries for the movie?
@@jerjenjul no theyre supposed to be brief introductions
@@theweirdfrmhealth4791 acK
Trailers were meant to be watched after the movie
“When people have the freedom to choose, they choose wrong” still a crazy quote
This is the Vote BIden 2024 slogan 🤣🤣🤣
Sad that they completely changed the setting, but still excited to see the story in movie form!
Wait wait wdym changed the setting???
Ik this movies disappointed me 😔
@yasmeen miloua omg im reading this is in grade 6 :)
@yasmeen miloua Yeah the technology in the book I believe (I dont quite remember it's been a while since I read it) was just like our current technology and then in the secret types of areas it would be more futuristic.
Absolutely 😩
Idk how I feel about Jonas fighting back and probably a revolution in the town just to give the teens action even the book wasn't a book with action it was a story of a kid discovering his humanity in a town with no color or emotion and in the book Jonas didn't start a revolution or fought back he just left the town with a baby and that's it.
Yeah I'm not sure how I feel about that either. I assumed they adapted it because while the book was an amazing allegory in its day, to modern audiences it's something they've seen before, so now they have to spice it up.
Sarah Fisk You made it sound like rebelling and the hero getting a complete victory is suppose to be a newer concept than the other. Which is the hero barely survive and escape, and the town is left alone, letting the viewers admire that little world. The original ending is more interesting in my opinion. We have enough films with those fairytale, bright and clear cut ending that satisfy mainstream audience's boring mind. I Am Legend didn't get to have its original ending either. (it barely resemble the original story, sadly.) And the original story is truly a classic. Looking at the film adaptation, which is just an action flick that served as a quick grab at the box office. The film isn't worth revisiting at all.
I'm 14 and just read this book for the first time. To be honest, all the action and all the extra stuff totally threw me off. I'd rather have the movie be like the actual book.
Well the movie is based on the book, in order to make the movie more appealing to the audience they create this revolution.

Oh I'm not saying I agree with it or anything, I'm just guessing that might be why.
Book was good. Movie was good. End of story.
VidEffects HD same when Jonas' dad injected the baby it made me tear up
catie c i read the book for literature,we're tested based on what we read on the book.
We took an AR test on the book and it had some questions relating to the movie
I would have enjoyed it if this trailer didn't show me the whole movie. Way to ruin your own product whoever made this.
catie costantino nope good Book terrible Movie
Has anyone ever thought about how close we are today - 2020 - to this vision?
yes, this movie is a documentary in a way it's scary
Predictiv progamming
Yes it is very similar which is not a good thing.
Ding ding vaccine
That's the plan Stan ..
Wow, this REALLY makes me mad. They're completely ruining an amazing book! I'm glad it's finally in black and white, but a spaceship? A rebellion? Hunger Games-esque peace keepers? The Giver is an amazing story and book, I don't understand why they have to ruin it.
Carlos Aponte I guess you haven't seen it, then, have you?
+Ana Mack I did, and I'm glad they didn't turn all the movie in black and white and only a few parts.
Carlos Aponte then you should understand it was necessary for the plot
+Selfish Eyes I thought he was Percy Jackson too
Scheurthiaume if they made the movie exactly the same as the book it would be boring so they change it a bit to make it a wee bit more exciting...
THIS TRAILER REVEALS TOO MUCH!!! (like his dad killing people through injection, which is a really eye-opening realization in the book)
predictive programming 2020/21 and beyond but yet here we are living it😔
Thanks for spoiling it too instead just leaving it at that
Read the book. Nothing alike to this. Why make the story too different than from what it is
yeah, I was a bit confused with the trailer .. I read the book and this seems to be quite different ... but I know that the book is not nearly enough for a movie, I just hoped that they could do it somehow (like hobbit^^) but I guess they just took the idea of the the book and created a lot longer story
LadyMagiccc That's not quite it. I've read the book AND seen the movie (at least a WIP version). By the paper I signed, I'm not allowed to release any details of the movie. Just understand that the emphasis has been...shifted slightly. To understand what I mean, just realize that, in spite of the ages of Bridges and Streep, the target demographic for the viewing audience was restricted to 18-34 years old.
:)
Lyssa F angelique buchard Levina Soetyono not sure who you are agreeing with ^^
QueenBoadicea damn, that's disappointing to hear. I hope they didn't shift the emphasis from the anti-communist messages to teenage romance
I watched The Giver last night, and I still can't explain the emotions I felt while grasping its depth. I had no idea about the story of this movie since I haven't read the book, but it turned out to be unexpectedly brilliant! The actors, especially Meryl Streep, were so effective. The cinematography was amazing! I loved the idea that the film moved slowly from glossy black-and-white into muted and then saturated color - I don't wanna give spoilers - but it made the film mind-blowing! In addition, I loved the soundtrack, OneRepublic's Ordinary Human. Overall, the movie was visually stunning and orgasmic. A must-watch!!! I am looking forward to see the three sequels in the future.
Yang Jiang it's a quartet. Hopefully the next three will be made into films.
It's refreshing to see some positive opinions about this movie. I agree - this movie was stunningly beautiful: the cinematography, the acting, everything!
Malachi Weaver right? I can't believe the amount of negative commentaries on this. 36% on Rotten Tomatoes? Seriously?
deep.
As a movie, it was honestly amazing. I can agree with you on that. The reason people hate it is because the storyline is not original, and it doesnt match with the book.
I know a lot of people hate on the movie, but I actually think this is what the book was supposed to be like. I FELT things, I had sympathy towards the characters, I CARED about what happened to them.
And the soundtrack is very beautiful!
Beautifully put!!!!! Agreed.
I wonder how they see a rubix cube
Probably just a bunch of random shades
+Sunset Sushi 😂😂😂😂
they will beat it no matter what they do
50 shades of grey
+Sunset Sushi they wouldn't. Suffering from a rubix cube Is a struggle. They don't have such thing as suffering
Wtf why does every single dystopian book turn into another version of the hunger games when it becomes a movie?! Stick to the book!
Monica Lulek haha I haven't read the book (I really want to though), but 10 seconds into the trailer I was like 'Hunger Games?' XD
+Monica Lulek The Giver was around a lot longer than Hunger Games, but I agree how the trope is overused
We are reading the book in class and the teacher said we were going to watch the movie every time we get to a certain part of the book. I was talking with some of my friends and told them that I bet that the movie would have the same looks as the hunger games. That was before i watched the trailer. I'm always fuckin right when it comes to these type of movies!
Because that's how they'll get people to watch it.
Divergent though...
What the heck? A lot of this stuff I don't remember reading in the book omg. Doesn't the giver put his hands on Jonas' back when he gives him the memories? Tf! Still watching it
@@Vincenthusky little kids wouldnt be affected by that kind of thing, they dont sexualize that stuff like modern day jerks do.
So... they basically changed everything from the book?
Pretty much
Yes and now it’s better than the book 🙏🏼
I mean, the movie is good, but it'll never compare to the book.
Stop bitching and enjoy the film!
The Scorpion you Fool stop Wasting Time By watching trash movies like this one
henlo ? Honestly the Movie is trash
looks interesting but somehow i kept thinking of divergent
This book came out in the 90's, divergent didn't even come out 10 years ago
i know, i have read the comments below, i am just stating my thoughts because i have read divergent but not this book, k.
It is a dystopia like divergent, hunger games, and maze runner. But it is a great book.
BoyScouts1910 what do the release dates of the books have to do with anything?
The Giver novel is actually nothing like this. From the looks of it, the filmmakers threw the novel aside and opted to go for something more like Divergent or The Hunger Games which sort of defeats the purpose of the source material.
This movie is insanely good. You'll laugh and cry, but rejoice at the end. Although it is different from the book, in a way it had to be to help us to really feel emotions floating off of the screen.
Agree. Love both the book and movie.
I like both
Holy spoilers! Disappointed by that, and holy cow is it so much more futuristic than the book! Very interested in seeing it :)
Well, to be fair the book never fully described how futuristic everything was. I imagined it about as futuristic as this movie displays while others I know thought it to be either seemingly modern or WWII era vintage. I too am interested to see where the writers take the story.
Very much so, but i too am very interested!
Whoever made this trailer should be fired. Why so many spoilers? Idiots.
I remember reading this in 7th grade I miss that
I read it in 8th😭
that's exactly what's happening right now what should i cherish at this age lol
Me too
i think i finished the whole series in 5th, and it was my absolute favorite trilogy. the movie sucks - they literally changed everything.
Is anyone watching this in 2021 thinking about where our society is heading?
Uh 🤯 huh
This will be our future
Watching in 2025 and approaching the end times 🙏🏼
Gotta love when people try and say an older story has tried to rip off a newer one. How exactly does that work?
I don't remember the book being anything like this at all...
What? You mean you don't remember the spaceships and the needles and a 12 year old who looks like a 25 year old and Taylor Swift as a selling point for the pre-teen girls who think she's a main character?
It's not. :(
Eric Janvier hahaha omg xD
Key Word : Based
I remember when I read the book I was stunned, never read anything so powerful and unique until then. That was over a decade ago. I don't remember a lot in the book, so when I saw the movie I didn't know whether it changed drastically or I just didn't remember everything that seemed radically different. I will say this: yes, it changed Jonas' age and some of the film feels a little like teen-action movies; but the captioning of the atmosphere, the philosophy, the exploration of emotions and ideas are quite good for a modern Hollywood-like movie adaptation, and the actors are great (especially Jeff Bridges who portrays "The Giver" amazingly). So while it is perhaps a bit "easier to swallow" than the book, it has the book's most precious quality: depth.
Book: Amazing story of society and pain.
Movie: Cookie Cutter teen film. SMH.
Xenopop I know right
This movie has got to be the most underrated movie ever. I don't get why people are giving it so much hate. Yes, there are changes from the book, but the story itself is unaltered. Pills vs injections - who cares? 12yr old vs 18yr old - who cares? The changes made sense for a movie adaptation. The cinematography with the memory sequences and their stark contrast to the dull community was done superbly. I'm not saying the movie was better than the book, which I loved, but I believe it adds more depth to the book.
Exactly
Stop saying it looks like Divergent you blasphemous fools!!! Veronica Roth got ideas from Lois Lowrys The Giver, not the other way around!!
and its not even that it had to look like that. I think they made it look too much like other movies coming out now (hunger games, divergent) it follows the same dystopian theme but it doesn't mean the words have to look so abnormal or the same as each other -.-
They're saying that because the story of The Giver has been changed to look like other popular franchises. They assume people don't read anymore and they want to make a successful movie which apparently means Hunger Games and Divergent.
Boook wooorrm (not that being a book worm is bad)
You know, I had my doubts, but it ended up being pretty good. Strange choice to make the entire movie less than 3 minutes, but they did manage to go through the entire plot and keep in pretty much all the relevant twists in that time so who am I to complain. And releasing it free on youtube, what an idea! Wonder if they'll make the sequel.
WTF
Andrew Luo I'm afraid this is the truth.
...what?
@@bookbookism Yup, except you can see how much they changed in the trailer, too much change man
jesus.....show me the whole damn movie why don't you? where the hell is the mystery anymore?!
It's a book. It's short and easy to read. Can't complain about spoilers for something that's probably older than you.
Drew Jefferson
When it's being made into a movie like this? Yes, you can complain. This movie is not only for book readers, it's meant to be a movie. A standalone film. And this trailer, just like many others nowadays, is spoiling much of it.
***** Thank you. Drew's comment made NO sense anyway.
Drew Jefferson Umm....what are you babbling about?
Drew Jefferson
Really? Because I don't remember Fiona getting scheduled for Release and Jonas having to break her out, happening in the book. That was invented for the movie, and they completely spoiled it with this trailer.
People are to harsh, I never read the book so i don't know what they changed, but come on as a movie it self it was an amazing movie. I got the chills watching this towards the end, i personally loved the movie. That is what is wrong with people today, they bash on these movies that were based on a book and its not really exactly how the book went, but give me a break, you really cant say this wasn't a good movie. If this movie had a different title and there never was a book everyone would be saying how amazing the movie was and how they loved it, but all because its based on a book and is not 100% the same as the book people don't like it. smh
The reason why people like me are upset is because we waited over 15 years for someone to finally create this movie & they put it in color.. The book is 100% black in white besides bits & pieces.. Then they tried to "fix it" by adding the black & white after which you can tell it is just a filter so instead of just making it in black & white they just added a filter to it last minute... It was one of those books you could read over & over & is loved by many.. We wanted to see the book version before it was twisted & changed into an action/futuristic movie.. Don't judge people for being disappointed.. It was a simple/powerful book & it did not have all this action/elders being involved/color that they added... They basically changed it completely.. It takes away from the main idea...
Jonas was also only a 12 in the book, but he is 16 in the movie. And he only saw flashes of red, it only stayed red when The Giver gave him the memory of the sled. Too many twists in the movie.
People who read books then watch the movies are rather disappointed because most movies don't capture the essence of a book. It doesn't give you the same emotion, feeling, and connection when you watch it versus when you read it. They try to make a short and sweet cookie cutter version of books and flip it and change it and put whatever spins on it to make it more "Hollywood" appropriate but I never really get angry about it. I really just don't have high expectations of movie adaptations of books. That way when its fairly close to the book, I would be surprised that it is versus utterly disappointed. The beauty of a reader is that you feel and imagine everything the way you see it. No one would ever satisfy that visual besides me. No I really don't even hype myself up.
Rokudenashi, I couldn't agree more.. & the vibe is completely different. =/ Oh well.. Maybe someone else will do it how we had all waited for one of these days.
well, also, it didnt say anything also about injecctions, just pills
I think we can all agree the movie is a let down from the book. This is a typical teen movie tbh.
Nah
YES! It really cheapens the movie when they only let Fiona be a major character just so she could be romantic with Jonas :( In the book she was hardly that important, and it wasn't about romance at all...
@@jensenpeacock8395 EXACTLY I WAS SO UPSET ABOUT THAT I YELLED FOR LIKE AN HOUR
Yeah, but Im a teenager who really likes the book and would have loved the movie had it been accurate... so its not a movie for teens, its a movie for people with boring minds.
I get why they changed the story to make it more like The Hunger Games and Divergent, but I liked the book's lack of action. There was no rebellion or fighting scenes to distract you from Lois Lowry's messages. Also, I'd like to see a young adult/teen hero film that stands out from the others. Hunger Games, Divergent, the Giver, Maze Runner, and Ender's Game- see what I mean?
Enoch Lee I litterally just finished the book
Enoch Lee yeah but they know what sells and what doesn't and dystopian society movies like this sell
dude me too, i liked that it had a calm atmosphere!
Going in blind, didn't read the book or c the trailer n I LOVE THIS FILM! Beautifully done, beautifully acted. That Brenton Thwaite kid is amazing, so pure n innocent when needed! Great actor! This film made me cry n like the characters I only noticed after the tear was trailing my cheek! Not sure why I cried but just sadness of emotion over took me n it was beautiful! Also could not spot Taylor Swift. Only knew she was in it when I read her name at the end so again, great acting! Great film!!!
"They don't need to watch the movie to understand this, the entire plot is in the trailer!"
This was one of the BEST movies I've ever seen in my LIFE!!! I just want my friend to watch it. They switched up the book a bunch, but it only makes it better!!😊😊😊😊
I agree, even Lowry states that the movie had very good changes.
Not really
Happiness is such a beautiful experience because there are sorrows
This trailer looks significantly closer to the book than the first trailer... although I don't know about Jeff Bridges as the Giver - I think someone like Ian McKellen would have been better, but everyone would have been associating him with Gandalf...
I would like Jeff Bridges just because he kind of looks similar to the guy on the front cover. But other than that, Ian McKellen would be great.
I'm so disappointed, it's nothing like the book. And Jonas is supposed to be 12 yet he looks 16...?!?

As a person who has never read the book, I believe the movie was amazing. The trailer doesn't show it but I loved it. It's really good.
Say it looks like Divergent all you want. The Giver comes first in the hierarchy of dystopian books turned into movies if I recall correctly. First as in, the book is the oldest of them all.
Harrison
1984 was a dystopian novel by George Orwell and its film adaptation was made in 1956, as the novel came out in 1949. So, I would review that claim of yours. :)
War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength
Big Brother is watching.
Btw, the Giver was published in 1993. :)
Christopher Benson Well, I was speaking in terms of dystopian novels that have been adapted into film recently, I'm well aware of 1984
Keikousaba Right, of course you are. :)
Keikousaba Just to clarify, you never really said "recently".
"The Giver comes first in the hierarchy of dystopian books turned into movies if I recall correctly."
This is nothing like the book! Even the giver is different!
I was hoping he would have a longer beard XD
Me too
Dude Im reading the book at school, they may have changed stuff, but it doesn't mean it sucks.
And on the book cover, The Giver is supposed to have longer hair.
OMG i've watched the first trailer a couple of months back and I remembered perfectly how there were many comments questioning that why isn't it in black and white before Jonas knew what colours were. And i'm so happy to see the second trailer was 100 times so much more better than the first one.
I also saw some significant differences from the book itself, aside from Jonas being a couple of years older in the movie, I did not remember Asher being the one who's hunting Jonas down? I don't know if it's purpose to make the movie more interesting and all but we'll see!
And for those who are saying that this trailer reminds you of Divergent, they are nothing alike. READ THE BOOK. It's a children's classic. Even though it's kind of a post-apocalypse/dystopian themed story, The Giver is a great book to start reading at a young age to expand our perspective on how we see life :)
at 0:45 when the kid asked him, who are you, I was expecting Jeff Bridges to say "The Dude"

My class is finishing the book tomorrow, but I already know how it ends. This movie seems way different from the book. I can't wait to watch this when I get done with the book. I know it came out in 2014. But I still can't wait to watch. It feels very intriguing and exciting.

I liked the book a lot better than the movie. I thought the book had a lot more detail to it and it was more understandable. But the thing I like about this movie is the climax.
The climax NEVER HAPPENED.
My husband and I did not read the book, but watched the movie and agreed it was quite beautiful with a wonderful message. We really enjoyed it! I'm sure the book is even better and I plan on reading it. The trailer seems like it gives a lot away but there is actually much more to the movie.

There are three books in total if you want to read more!
@@kumisspenashue4844 There's actually 4. The Giver, Gathering Blue, Messanger, and Son.
The book is AMAZING
The movie is way difrent from the books btw
I know I'm late but I fell in love with the book in the fifth grade, the story was so captivating and i'm glad they made the movie(which i finally watched recently). As with most movies stemming from books they changed things to add to the suspense of the movie. It was basically the same story line. The only problem I had was the ending, I really cannot stand an unfinished ending, I would have liked for Jonas and Gabe to make it back home.
And here we are, 2021. Predictive programming.
This probably the type of film that ruin the book, but I still enjoy it because:
1. I only watch the movie
2. It's entertaining and have a different concept
3. I never read the book (well, but I'm going to)
This will happen to us if we don’t stop following silly rules that are made by politicians to keep us controlled. Follow Gods moral law, love him and people, and fight for freedom
OH MY GOD HE IS 12 !!!! HE LOOKS LIKE HE'S FRICKING 16!!!!!
They actually made him 18 in the movie
And i think that girl was fiona and she was supose to have red hair lol
+caelyn crochet It is red
+Siddhi Narayan kinda old but the actor who played him is 26 and like 6 ft lmao not what I pictured when reading the book
Ok that's the whole movie in 2:30 minutes, the part where the father killed was a good plot twist they shouldn't show it in the trailer
I got an ad before an ad
this comment is underappreciated
When I read the book I literally imagined no color or emotions anywhere.
Anyone here 7 years later
hey
i am
Did u come here after watching the movie?
yeah
also read the books
I've just finished the book and I thought it was a very Beautiful story. This trailer makes the story look like a sci-fi /futurist/action movie (which i think was NOT the Point of the book at all) we'll see how it turns out....
im about 10 mins into the movie now on netflix. i just wanted to watch the trailer to see if there would be any color in the film or if it was all black and white lol
SAAAME😂
same
hapathy Why? What's wrong with black and white?
A lot of people are complaining about all the changes they made but you need to actually watch it. I thought the movie would be really bad based off of the trailer but after watching it I even cried and felt true emotion and goosebumps. And Jonas isn’t even supposed to be 12 in the movie, they said he was 18 and an adult because the reason the book was banned in many states was because it showed signs of independence at a young age. They didn’t want to get the movie banned so they made Jonas and his friends older. Also, making Fiona and Asher have different jobs made the movie more interesting. And the movie really does start off in black and white, it just gains color when Jonas learns the color. So if you haven’t seen it yet, please don’t judge the trailer. And if you have and still don’t like it, it’s probably a type of movie you don’t like but others like myself would.
it basically gave away the big plot points/twists from the books that were one of the reasons i love the book
I'm a little disappointed that this looks like an action movie.
The book was serene to the point of discomfort, which was what made the book so enjoyable to me
Watch the film. It's not like an action movie.
This book had the quality to make an oscar worthy film.. To bad they messed up and added action to it
Yeah, it did. The first thing they did wrong was cast Jeff Bridges
they also seem to mess around with the colour too much, switching back and forth, but maybe it all makes sense...
That was one of the things they did right Jeff bridges is one of the most talented actors ever
who else thinks that the movie is better than the book
nope

It is better than book bruh
Who else thinks that the book is better than the movie?
I read the book as a class at my school and just finished it yesterday. Now I want to watch the movie.
One of the best movies I watched in a long while, don't understand all the hate. 10/10
Read the book and you'll understand. Yet no hate here, just disappointment ...but I like the way the memories are displayed, though
bro read the book. join the haters.
@@mamilleralmeida dude the memories arent even being displayed the right way... Jonas saw them one by one, not in flashes.
I know it is normal when a book to film adaptation strays away from the book's plot, but this is an outrage! It seems like a completely different thing than the book!
Check out Percy Jackson, that's worse
just read the book in the class and I’m watching this and I just noticed at 0:17 instead of clapping their patting their laps
wow this just disappointed me. Another one of my favorite books sacrificed to be a shallow action story with overdramatic acting and unnecessary added plot elements.
I agree ...some of my friends have even said that this movie had nothing to do with the book but I kinda disagree
I actually liked the movie.....
How about you shut up and don't watch it if you know it isn't going to be that same.
I know it's disappointing to see your favourite books turn into movies that aren't accurate (Look at the Percy Jackson series) But we've got to live with it . The movies individually might be good and we should appreciate that . Even though we want it to be exactly the same , the chances are very low....
I love all 4 Giver books but even though the movie is somewhat different, i still liked it. Books are still better but I enjoyed this movie too.
I only looked at the trailer...no movie or book....its what we are going toward right now and the movie shows that there is a place where some of the past was set aside/protected from being destroyed and the main boy discovers it and now knows his mission is to save it from being destroyed by these robot/zombie people..
it's August 2023 in Australia and I just discovered this movie, this is truly terrifying and I must watch it
gosh, hes too old, he never kissed her, this is totally NOT how I imagined this...
good
In the book Jonas is 12 so why does he look 17
HOLLLLYYYYWOOOOOOD
T&P 4 ever this movie sucks I'm not watching it
OMG so true
I WAS ABOUT TO SAY THAT XD
T&P 4 ever that's so true!
antoine griezmann really deserves an Oscar for this. I mean who knew that he could act ? 😐
I haven't read the book yet I watched the movie, I feel grateful to watch this movie because It reminds me how beautiful to be a human. Emotion make us alive and Jonas make me idea, this is a leader supposed to be
I loved this movie! The simplicity of it is refreshing! Acting was great and I couldn't help to find an unintentional theme of the dangers of "political correctness." Except in the movie it's called "precision of language." I think Christianity is the main thread through the film to be honest. Ending with "O Holy Night" was touching. It does indeed show respect and acknowledge other cultures and religion, but I couldn't help but sense the main character develops his faith through Christ near the end. That was just my take on it. And looking at the film through that perspective really made me enjoy it more even though that was not what it was intended to convey.
Wow, I didn't even think of it that way. That's awesome. The movie definitely added and changed many things and it was very good, not bad. I really did like how they included religions in the memories. It made lots of sense, and Lowry really liked that and thought that it would've been great if she added religion to her book as well. I'm really glad this movie is good. It had a dark, truthful, and profound tone all at once. I came out of it very happy. Saw the movie twice in theaters, then bought it. I have a ticket of the film taped on the first page of The Giver Quartet (collection of all 4 books in the series in one giant book).
ok wtf? first of all, Jonas didn't just stumble upon the giver, he was selected to train with him. Second, Jonas's dad doesn't just release the old and newchildren. he is supposed to be a nurturer and only releases newchildren when they don't grow or develop. whoever the hell made this movie should've read the book first.
also, this movie Asher is nothing like the Asher from the actual book.
Sir. Jakob the Piano Player Ikr!! And why is he so old?! In the book he is 12!
Lois Griffin exactly! In the movie the 16 year old Jonas is played by a 25 year old when Jonas is supposed to be 12!
Lois Griffin Heh that reminds me of The Lightning Thief 😌
stop bitching about his age jesus its just the age u expect a 12 year old actor? lol gg
At least we can be thankful for dystopian future stories replacing Vampire romances...
oh lord..don't even get me started with the vampire romances 😭
The book is way better, it grabs your attention and when I finished it I literally cried. Not only because it was so emotional, but the fact that the book I loved.. Had ended!
I've never read the book and I'd like to keep it that way so I can enjoy the film.
the book is way better, trust me.
He's supposed to be 12 and Lily is supposed to be 8, and it's a big part because it's the ceremony of TWELVE not the ceremony of SEVENTEEN
EXACTLYYY WHO CARES WHAT EVERYONE ELSE THINKS, HOLLYWOOD GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT
The book is amazing
1. Jonas is a Twelve, yes, but he is not what we think is twelve. A newchild is cared for before they are given away so really Jonas is more like our fourteen years old. So please stop bitching about his age.
2. I feel like this trailer took the plane scene way too far and just messed up the entire system of Assignments
3. All of the best parts were given away, which totally sucks :( and it has pretty much nothing to do with the book. They spoiled everything but the Rosemary thing, which doesn't quite make sense
bro. 12+1=13. it does not equal 14. Stay in school, kids.
dude, it works the same way in real life. a person is not 1 years old until after a year after they are born. get your facts straight.
Liked the book, didn't see the movie.
But WHY is the soundtrack from "Requiem for a Dream" in this trailer (1:01)?
Leonidas: THIS IS SPARTA!!!

Jonas was 12 in the book
Did anyone get an Equilibrium vibe ?
Equilibrium: Out 2002.
The Giver: Published 1993.
shhh.
The book is better
Tbh was hoping president snow from the hunger games played the giver XD
yesss same
Nah the actor was perfect for that role
I read the book first as one should. We read it in 8th grade. We learned that it was a BANNED BOOK
They just gave everything away in the trailer.
the movie and book were drastically different from one another (I have watched and read both) but for me personally I enjoyed both very much just in different ways , I liked how each gave you a different vibe and perspective on their world and this story
but then they are two completely different stories, and then its copyright technicalities
I agree Haley - you’re one hundred percent right - I thought Jonas and Fiona, but especially Jonas were the best actors - followed by Streep and bridges
