As a white European (British), Michelle's right: we go to the beach on the single day of Summer we'll get that year, we take supplies and we don't supervise the kids. That's just who we are. She's also... not wrong about the skin thing. Being half-Scottish, I wear SPF 50 just to go the shops -- if I go to the beach and come back with every layer of skin just as intact as when I left, it's a miracle.

The bit about the going to the beach with white people is real. I am in an interracial relationship and I had the exact same experience the first time I went to the beach with my partner's family. They are Norwegian. My people are from Miami. Ha!

What's good!?), sadly, like many Americans whose ancestors were slaves, my wife is unsure of her heritage. But, evidently, if you mix a Viking with an African-American you'll end up with gorgeous Puerto Rican babies. Hahahaha.
