A masterpiece? It's no wonder Druckmann walks about with an ego the size of the sun. It was a good game, and a decent enough story by gaming standards, but in live action media and compared to literature, it's mediocre and highly derivative at best.
This Joel wouldn't have gotten himself killed in part 2. This Joel would not have trusted that group of people, and he sure as hell wouldn't of given his real name.
Wasn’t the same Joel. That’s kind of the point. This Joel was a loner who was constantly in survival mode. He had only just begun to open up to Ellie. Part 2 Joel was a dad who had been domesticated for 4 years - surrounded by a community of trustworthy people. Plus Joel didn’t give his name, Tommy did(to Abby, during the horde fight). Either way, I think the whole point was he was fucked no matter what. If, like Tommy said, they wouldn’t have made it back to Jackson in the storm, that cabin was their only play. Once they rode through that gate there was no way he was making it out alive.
@@b0nkert0ns7 exactly, over time with Ellie, his lost humanity finally started to come back to him and he learns to trust more people especially now that he lived in Jackson with several different people. This change in him cost him severely though..
Joel doesn’t though. I see plenty of this same comment but if you actually go and watch the scene again, it’s Tommy who reveals Joel’s identity and is quick to trust the group (even offers for them to come back to Jackson) which is very much Tommy’s character and it’s that guilt that drives him in TLOU2. Joel helps to save Abby when the lot of them are being attacked by the horde and they take shelter with Abby’s group because it was either that or be killed by the horde of infected chasing them. It you rewatch the scene, none of Joel’s actions betray his character and it’s some audiences’ memory of the scene that is the issue
Nolan North is so terrifying here, I think it's gonna be a huge task for the live-action David to come off so trustworthy and so evil in a matter of minutes. Like even the voice North chose just gives me chills.
I dunno, I liked it a lot, and this is coming from someone who knew nothing about the game before watching the series, but the game’s david seemed a lot more trustworthy while in the series, the moment you saw david you could sense something was off. Not blaming the actor tho, he did a wonderful job, its probably because they cut the infected fight and because we could see behind the scenes of him in his community
@@Mateus-zs3it agree with his look and demeanor. However, in the game Ashley and David fight off some infected together, which briefly forms a bond. Then the scary shit starts.
Joel was luckiest man alive to get that injury and miss all major organs. Should have played the lottery that day. Oh and throw in Ellie and her greatest line ever said in video games.
The winter chapter is the highlight of this game and davids deaths is one my favorite moments of any game ever bc it shows how strong ellie and joels bond has become. Too bad tlou 2 doesnt have a similar moment since abby only knew lev and yara for a few days
I can't wait to see how the David arc plays out in the show. He's probably the scariest character in the game. On top of cannibalism and torture, there's attempted rape and hints of pedophilic tendencies. The scene where he's holding her hand and the other cannibals talking about how he's got a new 'plaything' more than implies he's not only got some twisted plans for Ellie, but has done so with who knows how many previous young victims.
@@Eon233 One haunting detail they added in the show was that David used to be a teacher that used to teach kids the same age as Ellie implying that he had victims before the apocalypse.
this game director is genious, every character is doing good their duty to complete Joel and Ellie. Making every joel and ellie decision absolutly pure right.
It’s been years since I played, so there’s small details I can’t recall if I noticed the 1st time around. The HBO series just aired the episode, and I didn’t remember the cannibalism or the pedophile nuances in the game, yet they stood out in the tv show. Now I’m reflecting back to the game and realize they were there.
Ellie actually agree to david in some point. She says that they got lucky to get rid all of the infected but david says it all happens for a reason and she actually believed him because in part 2, Ellie says to dina that she don't believe in luck while dina give Ellie her's bracelet
Nolan North, what an actor. He was already famous for portraying the swashbuckling hero Nathan Drake and here he is playing what is arguably one of the sickest, most demented characters in gaming. The HBO adaptation still couldn't quite match this David.
i agree i jus wish they added the detail of joel pulling ellie off of david’s body when she’s going in on him…. i really liked how he was right there to pull her out of that moment versus reuniting outside the tavern
I was low on ammo so I was able to use the bow and shoot a few of them multiple times while collecting the arrows from them while their dead bodies laid against the wood. This game really makes you go through several situations
Man, I hate the concept of cannibalism in the zombie apocalypse. It makes you no better than the undead. Plus it's highly risky and stupid. What if you're really hungry and you kill and eat somebody without checking them for any zombie bites first? You'll end up infecting yourself and your group.
16:56 She should have let a letter to Joel explaining everything. But she didn't expect to be followed so she didn't do early as it should. It's a miracle they didn't find him, maybe she should have stayed hidden. 18:48 Imagine how desperating it must be for Joel to have losed her!
@@georgeapaton9591 no, there are women at his town, you can hear one when she first escapes from getting chopped and he tells everyone there’s an infected girl on the loose. David is just also a pedo with a god complex. So I don’t really find jokes like this funny but that’s just me.
You know what I find very creepy and crazy is when you attack David the second time in the boss battle, he said “run little rabbit run, hide”. Ellie in beginning of the winter saga killed a little rabbit with an arrow for food. The devs really told us Ellie was about to be that same little rabbit for David and he was planning to do some very very dark stuff to her that I won’t even say 😬
After finishing the second game three times now I can say without a doubt that Joel got what was coming to him... But goddammit, it’s still sad to see him go. He may not have been a hero, but he was our hero.
12:59 now I’m not a survival expert hell I’m not a person that would survive in a city with 20 zombies and Ellie is one helluva fighter and I understand with adrenaline you would panic but it would’ve been more logical to try and tab him in the knee than the face
I personally liked episode 2 the most, but this was another amazing episode. They should have given the first season 12 episodes, but honestly they are doing such a great job! They’ll give the second season more time for sure.
20:26 Ohhhh, they repurposed this scene in the show with the native couple! The wife makes Joel & Ellie soup & points out where to go and eventually the husband is tasked with pointing the same location on his map!
I absolutely fell for David's seeming kindess the first time I saw this game and didn't expect him to be a predator. But even when I still thought he seemed like a good person, I just f***ing sensed there was something off about him, but I could point my finger to it. It's just the fact that he acts waaaayyy too kind and friendly to be genuine. The game already established and showed how even the kindest people do bad stuff and rightfully look out for themselves. So when you have this new character late in the game and he acts waaay too kind and friendly compared to every other person we've met before, it feels off and that's how predators usually operate. The disguise themselves as a nice and friendly person to can potentially gain what they want from others
I honestly wish David wasn't the way he is. He seemed like a pretty cool and respectable person before you know what. I honestly thought we were going to be looking for supplies for Joel with him for a while. I actually would have liked that. Before the incident, i thought he was a pretty interesting side character. Shame things went down the way they did.
Luca Marinelli I think would be perfect for the role. The way he played his character in Trust was excellent and he was just scary in it. Plus I think he looks a bit like david
David should have been Abby's father. The story would made a lot more sense following Abby's description and not some unknown ass surgeon that didn't even have a background to being with💯. Or at least Marlene
Really? Abby wouldn’t be Abby, she would be some traumatised, evil person who was played with as a child. Abby probably would’ve killed this guy herself

There has never been a more badass scene then when Joel tells that cannibal that he trusts the dead guy and then kills him too. Just so satisfying
This Joel wouldn't have gotten himself killed in part 2. This Joel would not have trusted that group of people, and he sure as hell wouldn't of given his real name.
exactlyyyy
@@Damon242 Tommy only reveals Joel's name to Abby though, not the the whole group. Joel's the one who says it in front of the whole group.
Nolan North is so terrifying here, I think it's gonna be a huge task for the live-action David to come off so trustworthy and so evil in a matter of minutes. Like even the voice North chose just gives me chills.
Narrator: they completed the task successfully.
The show is really susprising me every episode. Its so good!
@@thearchivist250 Ashley?
Joel was luckiest man alive to get that injury and miss all major organs. Should have played the lottery that day. Oh and throw in Ellie and her greatest line ever said in video games.
27:02 I've always wondered what he says to her when the music starts, his lips are definitely moving.
I think it was something like: c'mon, we need to get out of this place. In Russian version it sounds like this
@@streetstormer308 Thank you.
I've heard he's saying something along the lines of "I'm never gonna leave you again, do you understand?"

@CAREorDIE i wish he couldve finished the sentence cause i wanna know so bad
Leonardo di caprio is confirmed playing David in tv adaptation
My boy Joel just magically woke up with his game play coat on
Don’t get me wrong I’m sure getting macheted to death isn’t a great way to die. But I still feel like he got off light. Imagine if Joel got to him.
Love Joel just angry bellowing "WHERE IS SHE" to David's goons. He is so pissed.
The winter chapter is the highlight of this game and davids deaths is one my favorite moments of any game ever bc it shows how strong ellie and joels bond has become. Too bad tlou 2 doesnt have a similar moment since abby only knew lev and yara for a few days
Bro I hated how she betrayed her whole faction and people she knew just for two people she knew for like 2 days.
It was good
the whole episode felt very rushed. the arc in the video game was way better
It was not even close to the game. David was made much more sympathetic in the show until they upped his creep factor right before he gets axed
@@Eon233 One haunting detail they added in the show was that David used to be a teacher that used to teach kids the same age as Ellie implying that he had victims before the apocalypse.
@@Eon233 there was nothing sympathetic about him in the show lol.
Anyone else excited to see how they pull this off in the hbo series?
Oh yeah. Almost there now.
@@Edvinaronson Almost there. First up: The Ellie/Riley story.
@@LaMilice. i loved it. wish they had kept the clicker scene tho. how did you find it?
What a sicko David was . The show did a great job of representing David’s true nature also.
this game director is genious, every character is doing good their duty to complete Joel and Ellie. Making every joel and ellie decision absolutly pure right.
It was two directors Neil Drunkman and Bruce Straley the last one left the studio after uncharted 4
It’s been years since I played, so there’s small details I can’t recall if I noticed the 1st time around. The HBO series just aired the episode, and I didn’t remember the cannibalism or the pedophile nuances in the game, yet they stood out in the tv show. Now I’m reflecting back to the game and realize they were there.
exactly i dont even remember this happening
Cannibalism was in the game, it is canon
the game was really more subtle and interesting on that point
It's all definitely Canon. But TV is gonna TV. The game was more subtle, and if you knew you knew.
Had to come back to make sure ellie said buddy boy as well as in the show. Was not disappointed 👌🤣
Ellie actually agree to david in some point. She says that they got lucky to get rid all of the infected but david says it all happens for a reason and she actually believed him because in part 2, Ellie says to dina that she don't believe in luck while dina give Ellie her's bracelet
David is voiced by Nolan North, the guy who voices nathan drake in uncharted, edward richtofen in call of duty zombies, and deadpool from the game
Nolan North, what an actor. He was already famous for portraying the swashbuckling hero Nathan Drake and here he is playing what is arguably one of the sickest, most demented characters in gaming. The HBO adaptation still couldn't quite match this David.
i didnt even realize that was him wtf
i can hear it in there a little now lol
The game went Red Dead for a quick second
David's death happened for a reason. To keep the story moving along.
Who’s watching after episode 8?
In the remake he looks even more creepier especially how his bags under his eyes are darker.
"Focus, right here. Right here."
Sooo menacing yet hysterical at the same time 🤣🤣🤭🤯😳
This was the scariest part of the game in my opinion
The music at the end of this scene and throughout the game is a masterpiece
Is this the PS4 version? Looks pin-prick sharp.
Lol
14:40 those lines are the message of tlou2 when you think about it
This part of the game really shows that a disgusting man is way scarrier than a horde of zombies...
Just watched this episode of the series... They did a great job bringing this to live action. Bravo.
Agreed! Loving the show so much. They’re def going to give the second season more episodes.
i agree i jus wish they added the detail of joel pulling ellie off of david’s body when she’s going in on him…. i really liked how he was right there to pull her out of that moment versus reuniting outside the tavern
My god this game was good. I played it on the PS3 in the summer of 2015. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.
I was low on ammo so I was able to use the bow and shoot a few of them multiple times while collecting the arrows from them while their dead bodies laid against the wood. This game really makes you go through several situations
This part of the game was truly a pain in the ass to beat it took me at least 20 times to beat this part.
23:53 is the best voice line of the game
I love that this is page for page in the series. A great game and a great video adaption.
Man, I hate the concept of cannibalism in the zombie apocalypse. It makes you no better than the undead. Plus it's highly risky and stupid. What if you're really hungry and you kill and eat somebody without checking them for any zombie bites first? You'll end up infecting yourself and your group.
Probably too influenced by The Road
@@lukasribin4168 It's easy enough to check for bites.
And you can cook it presumably... Just don't eat rare meat
@@uog293 david deberia ser cocinero🗿

16:56 She should have let a letter to Joel explaining everything. But she didn't expect to be followed so she didn't do early as it should.
It's a miracle they didn't find him, maybe she should have stayed hidden.
18:48 Imagine how desperating it must be for Joel to have losed her!
I smelled his shit through the screen the moment he came on. I told my self “it’s only a matter of time”
really? i trusted him 😭💀
HBO is doing a fantastic job at capturing key moments in the game!
David must have the shakes from eating ppl because he has stormtrooper aim
it wasn't enough zombies action in the season. they didn't even captured the zombie ambush with ellie and David.
Anyone here after watching the Last of Us episode to remember the game version
When he feeds Ellie & tells her is not deer 🦌 but we see the deer skinned & hang so it could mean Ellie actually ate human meat 🥩 👀
This video is about to get some good traction.
I just played this game for the first time and at 16:25 I legit started clapping when she said this.
I wanted Eille to killed Abby like she killed David if she done that it would be emotional and dark
Callus's death was at least a little less brutal then Shimmer's... I never really understood how he died so quickly though...
Probably snapped his neck in just the right spot to make it quick. Or at the very least, hopefully he was paralyzed ;^; so he didn't suffer
He snapped his neck duh
Here after finishing the episode haha
literally last night's episode. Amazing.
David was the scariest and hardest boss I ever fought.
Watching this after TLOU episode 8 on HBO. Man this game was revolutionary!
Who is here after watching episode 8 of the tv series!!
It was f***ing awesome 🙌
David came off as a nice guy at first. I think his whole goal the whole time was to get in them cheeks.
Bruh, laughed so hard at this comment. I mean, yeah, he probs hasn't seen a woman (or in Ellie's case, a girl, *yuck*) in years and wants to get some.
@@georgeapaton9591 no, there are women at his town, you can hear one when she first escapes from getting chopped and he tells everyone there’s an infected girl on the loose. David is just also a pedo with a god complex. So I don’t really find jokes like this funny but that’s just me.
It was definitely his intention he was trying to groom her in weird post apocalyptic way.. Gross
Gotta respect Nolan North. He can be the charismatic Nathan Drake and also a sick F like David
A sick fuck like richtofen also
You know what I find very creepy and crazy is when you attack David the second time in the boss battle, he said “run little rabbit run, hide”.
Part 2 was a dumpster fire in my opinion, would’ve been better off without a sequel since they messed it up so bad
12:59 now I’m not a survival expert hell I’m not a person that would survive in a city with 20 zombies and Ellie is one helluva fighter and I understand with adrenaline you would panic but it would’ve been more logical to try and tab him in the knee than the face
Well, she goes for the face later :)
Best episode by far.
How did 2 grown men hide behind one medium tree haha
You can really hear the Batman in Joel’s voice in the interrogation part
Who is here after episode 8?
The fact a little girl can hold a recurve bow with enough hunting weight to kill a huge buck for like 3 minutes
Gotta have twists to keep the story even more interesting 👍
Who's here after watching the 8th episode of the series the last of us
i am
There is no goddamn those two were hiding behind that tree.
Question:
Who would you cast as David in the HBO series?
First choice for me: John Hawkes
John Hawkes would be convincing as David
That's pretty on point, but I'd also say even Adrien Brody would be a good cast in terms of looks
Luca Marinelli I think would be perfect for the role. The way he played his character in Trust was excellent and he was just scary in it. Plus I think he looks a bit like david
I like it how it was Ellie who ended him and not Joel the knight in shining armor.
yes, totally!
David reminds me so much of the govenor from the walking dead
He reminds me of Carver from The Walking Dead Season Two game. Both of them were tanks. They kept coming despite the severity of their injuries.
“Everything happens for a reason” ~David
David should have been Abby's father. The story would made a lot more sense following Abby's description and not some unknown ass surgeon that didn't even have a background to being with💯. Or at least Marlene
Bruh.
Yeah I said it
That’s...a bold statement lol
@@mamamia5905 how so?
Really? Abby wouldn’t be Abby, she would be some traumatised, evil person who was played with as a child.
Abby probably would’ve killed this guy herself
