Dumb Street takes the piss out of everything that *made* soap operas so appalling up until 2000. From the synthesised rubbish that passes for background music to the wooden acting and hokey dialog (the budgets for TV soaps was comically miniscule)
Home and Away is a different show to how it was when these sketches appeared. Today, nightly soaps have larger budgets. Home and Away has some ludicrous story lines.
@@scottmcphee2076 Touché. TV drama budgets in those days were laughably miniscule - I would not call any of today's TV show scores "synthesised rubbish" either ;)
@@VoyageOne1 Home and Away is the only soap I've ever heard of that was scored to scene, like movies are, by an in-house composer and recorded with real musicians in a music studio each week (cheap library music was never used as was the case in most other soaps). Very expensive for an 80s soap budget and certainly not synthesized rubbish. These awesome sketches were just a bit of fun, they are not meant to be taken as serious criticisms of the shows they are affectionately poking fun at. Ironically as the budgets increased around 2000, the creativity went down the pan. Give me cheap sets and low budget, with interesting writing and unique ideas ANY DAY over a "high budget" show that looks glossy but produces nothing original, just non-stop affairs, murders, and same-old stories on a loop.
28 years ago I remember laughing out loud the first time I saw this. Jane Turner's character was such an accurate send-up of Bobby Simpson from Home and Away. See 1:00- 1:04, 1:58. Nicolle Dickson, who played Bobby did this same head tilt on the show. A family member who was and still is a fan of Home and Away did not laugh. They were offended. They said it was 'cruel.'
Gina Riley is the Danni Minogue character. Marg Downey is Marilyn. Jane Turner is Bobbi. But who is Magda Szubanski supposed to be? Looks familiar but I can't quite recall.
@@jeylful "Craig Donovan" is a blend of Craig Mclachlan and Jason Donovan. The local beach hunk with Henry Ramsay's curly sun-bleached mullet and speedos.
why cant they make funny shows like this anymore? Serious, scrap the patheric Yank haha shows with canned laughter, and non funny shit, and bring this back ASAP.... Even re-runs.. 50000000000000 times like they do with MASH... I cant stop laughin at this.... then again it took ages to stop laughing when this first came out.

Dumb Street. We’re all living on E Street. Home And Away like Neighbors, A Country Practice, with Flying Doctors too, on Ramsey Street, together. Living on Dumb Street. Living on Dumb Street. Living on Dumb Street.
Scary thing is this is more riveting and suspenseful than home and away and neighbors could ever be 😂
Lol so true
It's E-Street, duh
And much more memorable.

I lived in NZ in 1990 and loved this.
Still saying “craig ya Mums dead” 30 years later.

Damn straight!
"Fifty, forty, twenty, ten, nothing."
Classic!
This was always the thing I remembered most from Fast Forward... and it's still a pisser!
Jane Turner's close-ups were soooo damned funny 😂😂😂
And to think that those pregnant pauses gave birth to reality TV
That was a good show for its time l think they sgould revive more of the old shows

I think she was meant to look like an overweight version of Pippa.
mercerdamon Carly of course!
...and who is "Craig" the guy who does not move or say anything?

God, I forgot about Carly.
I like the impression of Kylie Minogue. I like when it when she said "I love you"
She'll be lucky
@angel55676 Gina Riley was was meant to be whoever it was Danni Minogue played.
Jason Donovan was a good sport appearing at the start with Craig Donovan 😄
thanks for uploading.
This is my fav sketch on FF
This is seriously stupid, but I love it!
Why are all of Craig’s relatives dying?
Clever talented gals.

So true. I think back then it was created and produced by commedians. Nowadays it's all written by controlled by a panel of accountants

So much better then. Than what is on our screens today. Freeview = Cheap vile crap. Shame on those who think 'We Aussie Public are so stupid.
While the Great Fast Forward in no more, Neighbours (the show it's based on) is still going.
