      And they started censoring alleged Russian propaganda results. I prefer Brave search because it lets you use Googles to give the user control over what kind of results they want to filter out. If you don't want right wing news or left wing news you can do that. That's a much better system then letting DDG decide what is and isn't propaganda.

I get disliking Chrome, but why hate on a severely maintained browser engine that works better than Gecko? I don't personally like Brave due to its crypto nonsense, but even I know that Blink is better than Gecko (and WebKit honestly), despite Blink's original ties to WebKit.

    I think it's about time for brave to make it to the Arch repos, I've never used it because I can't spend a day and a half waiting for my potato PC to build it from the AUR 😭

      I think there is a brave-bin version, which is the binary version in the AUR, but I agree; Vivaldi shouldn't be in the Arch official repos if Brave isn't!

    I like the Brave browser, but. I just prefer the Vivaldi browser better. Also, just because Vivaldi has a small portion of proprietary code, doesn’t mean it’s crap. I personally do not like this kind of extreme thinking

    So brave is getting better because it got side tabs? Why you didn't talk about the useless features like crypto garbage, web torrent, brave shields (it didn't block an ad 5:11)

    I dumped brave when I tried to engage with their rewards plan. That required a crypto currency site to send my money to but that site wanted my social security number sent over the web to sign up. No way I will ever do that. I complained on the brave forum and got no good advice so I dropped brave.

    I still will never use brave so long as it's blink-based. Don't support the blink/chromium monopoly! Firefox has been my daily driver for years, and I'm looking to migrate to Nyxt from it as my primary browser (which is WebKit, not blink). The other browsers I use - Firefox Nightly on mobile, torbrowser, w3m, Tangram soon perhaps, are all also not using blink. When doing web development, I also explicitly do not test on blink-based browsers. When running scrapers and shit, I try to always change the user agent to be of Firefox on Linux (unfortunately, most of them are set to chrome on windoze- absolutely despicable). I do my part...
    As for brave search, last I checked they were highly unethical (and determined to stay that way - they refused to release the source data of the engine to its users, willfully violating their users' fundamental rights), so I will not swap to a new highly unethical search engine from the old highly unethical search engine I unfortunately basically need to use, unless there is some real need to.
    Also DT, you should be able to middle-click on the links to open them in a new tab, rather than right-clicking and then clicking 'open in a new tab'.

      Why the hate on Blink? I understand disliking Google Chrome, due to Google's monopoly on the browser market. But Blink / Chromium isn't developed by just Google. It is developed by many other companies and individuals, and is a significant open source project that anyone can contribute to if they want. It's like me going and saying "i won't support the gnu software monopoly", which is downright sad because gnu software is really good despite the ties to you know who.
      Blink is a _severely_ good browser engine, and it should not be avoided just because of its ties to Google. Same with Chromium. Google Chrome, sure, because it has a lot of tracking and stuff. But avoiding all Blink-based browsers because of Google Chrome is unnecessary imo.

    • @MH_VOID
      @MH_VOID Рік тому

      @@evelynmarie3 Because developers are no longer developing for the web - they're developing for blink. They go against the web standards if blink does, only test on blink, and screw over all engines and make it extremely hard for any new projects to take off if those projects aren't just forks of blink. It's a monopoly, and I do what I can not to support it. The competition of other engines is also good for everyone. On a more personal note, I want nothing to do with google, especially stuff they have a lot of control over, which blink most certainly is. Also the blink CoC and likely horrible culture around it kills any chance of my contributing
