I'm with you. I hate the wind. it's noisy messy & makes everything hard work or undoes all the work already done! I hide in the house & make soap!!

So glad to watch another of your videos. I live in Florida and the wind here is crazy bad this year. I have 4 raised garden beds and have yet to plant anything. Where we are it's not that cold but we have had some night dip down into 30 degrees, but the wind rips up my tunnels off every time I try to start them going. I love seeing your farm and all your animals. Thank you again for giving me a smile with your videos. May GOD bless you in all you do.

Thanks Renee. It seems to be a horrible winter for all of us! Here's to hoping beautiful warm, spring days with no wind so we can garden in peace. 🙏🏻

Wow! What a lovely surprise for you, all those free plants in the polytunnel. Wind does make life harder, but like posted already, I just go into panic with Snow. Just put my sprouted Broad Beans into pots today. Yours look great. 😊

If it's winter snow I don't mind. When it arrives late in the season once you've already got things growing .... then yes, argh! Glad to hear you've got broad beans too!

I keep a couple of lists... inside jobs and outside jobs. Sometimes when I can't get out, I dream for next year's crop with seed catalogs. You can plan to visit poultry shows and sheep auctions. (You don't have to buy. Call it researching prices and gather contact info so you can contact breeders direct.) 💖🌞🌵😷

Definitely a need for inside jobs over the next few days; lots of rain.

@@BrimwoodFarm , I keep a list so I can add to it all year long... Like wash flower pots, organize seeds, order extra light bulbs for seed starting and chick starter lights, start seedlings for hedge row... stuff that's easy to forget about, but can be done during the off season. 💖🌞🌵😷

One more comment. Staple a long board to each short end of black plastic sheet (roll sheet around it a several times before stapling to lessen wind tear). It's somewhat easier to move it, roll it up, and hold it in place.

Nigella is great as it seeds everywhere - and woolly hats are the thing for the wind - I never used to wear them till I moved to the coast and encountered the gales.

I definitely need a wooly hat and someone else mentioned ear muffs to muffle the sense.

Hey Geoff. Great to see those bonus plants that have come up in the polytunnel. We are sorry to know of the extent to which wind has such an effect on your mental health. It's a good idea to ignore what we have no control over (ie. the weather) You would be better off relaxing indoors. We are rooting for you. Best. Jacob and Johnny. 🧔🤓

Thank you both. Yeah - it's just one of those things that really gets to me. Bring on spring!

Looking good Geoff! Ive not even started sowing yet 😩. Re the wind - change the way you feel about it......put up a wind turbine, that way when the wind comes its a good thing - free energy!

    • @BrimwoodFarm

      That would be amazing, actually!

Have you tried earmuffs? Or a head band (like skiers wear) that covers your ears? It helps to mute the wind and stay warm.

Great idea. I think maybe subduing my senses to the wind would help alot.

Of all the weather types. Wind sucks the most!
😭😭 I wanted my poly tunnel up by now but I need to maybe rethink it's location (thanks to storms Isha and Jocelyne) wish I knew where it should go. I need more trees to block the wind

Silverlining - you know where NOT to put it due to prevailing wind? It can be a difficult one. I hear you on the wind - still hate it!

Lots of free plants haven’t found any yet in my garden. I usually get lots of marigolds when it warms up. Wind is very annoying.

I mean, free marigolds is rather wonderful!

There's one thing that breaks the wind, a variety of willow, like weeping willow. It's habit of growing fast with branches curving down seems to dampen the wind.
With all those branches, couldn't you make a "dead hedge" which is basically a few poles lined up and filled with branches. You even need to jump on them to pack them down.
I've seen a few people use a certain variety of willow to make a living fence, but that requires patience to create the weaves.

    • @ninemoonplanet
      @ninemoonplanet 5 місяців тому

Poles roughly 2 feet apart , 2 rows about 3 feet apart. "Dead hedge".

It would definitely help at ground level. Unfortunately I'm on top of a hill (well, a hill by Suffolk standards) so very exposed. Hadn't realised quite how much so until being here!

I have the same feeling when there’s snow. Wind I actually like unless I’m on a boat!! Are you hatching anything this year?

I get excited by snow ... unless it's in February when the season's gotten under way. And yes! The incubator is on!
