  • The fifth generation all-electric MINI Cooper... The brand say it's 'the reinvention of an icon', except it's not built from the ground-up to be electric. That said it shares its platform with the BMW iX1 and that's not a bad thing. It retains the iconic MINI styling including short overhangs, a short bonnet and a contrasting long wheelbase while larger wheels and the removal of chrome bring a fresh take to the design. Flush door handles are offered for the time first, while the wheel arches and side scuttles have been removed and there's a striking new octagonal grille. With a completely new powertrain, the new MINI Cooper Electric is available in two variants: E and SE, offering different outputs and ranges. The interior of the vehicle echoes the famous minimalist design of the classic Mini, using just the round instrument cluster in the centre - a 9.4in OLED infotainment touchscreen - and the infamous toggle bar below. There are seven MINI Experience modes, including a new go-kart mode for enhanced driving performance. In a survey of 100 people, we asked for opinions on the new styling, futuristic interior, performance and range and whether it was a car that suits their needs. Overall, the reception was positive, but there were also some reservations about certain features.

The electric version of the new MINI Cooper is built on it's own Architecture, not the iX1's. And it is indeed build from the ground up to be electric.

Well spotted! The iX1 platform is destined for the MINI Countryman. As we later say it sits on all-new electric car underpinnings as a result of a partnership between BMW and Great Wall Motors. We'll make sure we edit out our faux pas!

Only the new MINI Countryman is on the platform of iX1. Regular MINI is much smaller

Yes, you're correct - the underpinnings are the result of a new partnership between BMW and Great Wall! We'll edit that bit out!

How are there this many beautiful EV presenters?? 🤷🏻‍♂️. They sure know how to get the demographic to watch these reviews. 🤷🏻‍♂️🙂
You’ll have to be a dedicated Mini lover or just want to be different for the sake of being different than getting the obvious benchmark vehicle.
At least there’s more choice now.. 👍🏻
