  • Here's my interview w/ drummer Corky Laing from Mountain and West Bruce & Laing, 2 of the most prolific power trios in music history. We discuss his autobiography, Letters to Sarah, chronicling his rock n roll career. From growing up in Canada to finding the bright lights of rock n roll in it's heyday. It's an eloquent mixture of rock n roll decadence and reflection. Corky brilliantly describes his experience playing and traveling with Leslie West ..Felix Pappalardi .. and Jack Bruce .. as well as his friendships with peers such as Jimi Hendrix, Keith Moon and Levon Helm, among many others. He delicately intertwines this perspective with the personal letters he wrote to his mother, Sarah, throughout his years on the road.
Unlike many sensationalistic name dropping stories, Corky goes deep and shares HIS truth through HIS unique perspective. He talks about his work ethic and his desire to be a part of something creative and what kept him grounded. His circle just happened to include the biggest names in rock n roll history

I have the book and also met with both Corky and Tuija. I would like him to talk a bit more specific about drumming and drums too but still really interesting. /Johan

The group called Mountain with Leslie & Corky still playing in the 90's.. Excited to finally be watching live in concert a favorite band since one's teenage years.. We had just imbibed some really good Kashmir hashish from the Hindu Kush... Got a good vibe going standing at the back of the small club, when we get to first greet Leslie West. He was astoundingly in good shape which I didn't expect and a very gracious person saying Hello ! Corky Laing instead was an outright asshole , SOUR CAT he therefor proceeds to shove his F-U Finger into my face...Then proceeds to scowl at me while muttering something nasty,,! lol Thanks a lot Corky for ruining my experience seeing Mountain....!

The Atlanta Pop Festival only staged concerts for two years in 1969 and 1970.
Corky said it was '71 & '72 Wrong dates for the festival.

History tells a different story about the Long Red drums. It’s NDSmart on drums at Woodstock, not Corky Laing.
