From personal experience, it's a good budget pistol. The Security 9 was my first firearm that my Dad gifted to me before he passed away. Goes bang every time I pull the trigger unless my magazine is empty. Already 900+ rounds spent on it too.

I must respectfully disagree. This is my sixth handgun and my favorite. This and a S&W Shield 9 are my two carry guns. I have had it now more than 2 years, have put somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 rounds through it and, I have never experienced this with any other firearm I've owned, have never, not even once, experienced a malfunction of any kind. I find it to be very accurate but, in my opinion, I think that's as much a function of the shooter adjusting to the particular quirks of whatever firearm he/she is shooting as the gun itself. Assuming the gun is working properly if you do your part the gun will do its part. This one goes bang and shoots to point of aim every time I pull the trigger. Takedown and cleaning are easy. I'm not bothered by the takedown pin that others find objectionable. I have no issues with the manual safety and actually prefer to have one on every gun I own. Overall I have no qualms about carrying this gun and trusting my life to it if the unthinkable happens. I'm actively considering buying the compact version.

I have to respectfully but completely disagree with you on this one. I am a new gun owner and this is my first pistol. I love it! I did quite a lot of research before I made the purchase. I could not be happier with a gun. I think it is an excellent budget pistol for general purpose and home defense. It does what its supposed to do and it does it quite well for my needs as a home defense gun. It’s very comfortable in the hands, easy to rack the slide, and fun to shoot at the range. Plus I think it’s a decent looking gun. Everyone it seems that owns one absolutely loves the gun. To each their own. Thanks for the review.

I bought mine about two years ago. I experienced several failures to extract with steel cased ammo and some with aluminum and a few with standard, name brand 115 gr brass case range ammo. The Ruger people were helpful and sent me a new extractor which greatly reduced the problem. I can only guess that the extractor may be fitted just a bit tight. Now, a couple of years later, it seems to be getting better with use, but then with the shortage of ammo, it is difficult to run enough rounds through it in one session to be absolutely sure.
The sights annoyed me at first, I got accustomed to them. The trigger has never bothered me. The shape of the slide being slightly round at the top rear probably works to cause less print for concealed carry. The safety lever is probably working as designed. Actuating the safety is not something we need to do while shooting... but activating the safety prior to holstering is a great idea. Too many people make the mistake of jamming their gun into a holster without removing their finger from the trigger. Why does that matter? Think about it. Tip for new shooters: Don't buy a crappy, floppy holster that will not stay open when your reholster. Make sure any holster you buy will not let your finger get on the trigger until the gun is securely in hand and under full control. Spend a few bucks more and get a good holster.

I own the compact version. I like this pistol, overall. I can see your point with the sights. It would be a useful thing to be able to one- hand rack it.
I have one big concern: I have had problems with the slide getting stuck open when I slingshot racked it. I think this was an issue with needing to wiggle the slide back and forth, as I need to ensure the take down pin is fully reinserted. This could be very bad on a reload!! My solution at the time was to rack it with such extreme force, like I never had to do with any other gun!
Otherwise it feeds reliably and I like the trigger. It's that damn takedown pin. Perhaps this was a cost saving measure.
P.S. I think minding that pin has solved the slide issue.

The Snag Free rear sight design is interesting. I am with you trying to appreciate the design. It does look good and has low wind resistance...
The Hammer Cut is actually nice. Your thumb can be on it when you pull from or into holster. So you can prevent discharge. This way you don't rely on the safety lever. It also reminds you to move your thumb and sweep the safety when you point it. It is something different in a world of negligent discharges.

I do believe the notches there for another reason. I think it's a keeping from creating a vacuum inside the cavity number one so the hammer has full dropping in the number two. If it does get dirty in there which it could get dirty with carbon gives you the way to get in there and clean it out and maybe just see it. But I doubt that's what it's for is to see the hammer. There's a reason for it just like the safety. That is reason they made the safety way they did so you could sleep it down. Pretty easy if you needed to shoot when you put your safety on. You don't have to have a sleeping motion and you want a good positive block up, but it does come off the ease. Pretty easy when you're sweep it off it was made that way on purpose an accuracy you could be moving on your plastic and it could be slipping in your hand and you're not realize it. That's why I prefer a rubber base on my grips it could be jumping and move around in your hand or you're not even knowing it. Three girls not real bad but it does. Can be a little snappy at times to put in your tire or you're not tired or your hand. Maybe just a little tire or something you got to look at the whole big picture I've been shooting since I was little. It's my grandfather and there's a lot of stuff. If people don't realize goes on when you're shooting. That's all I got to stay back. Have a good day

I know I'm late to this video BUT I disagree with some points. I edc this gun, the sights are very pleasant for edc, they don't snag or scrape my skin (as someone with a belly who carries 2-4 o clock) which glock sights do. The ball and cup layout sucks but better than 3 dot imo. The hammer channel is stupid and useless. The slide stop (not a release) does break in after 500 rounds in my experience. The safety is terrible to put on but sweeps off easily, which I like bc I don't use it but still sweep it off on draw just in case it engaged.

I started on 1911s, so I'm a thumb safety guy all the way, especially if triggers are 6lb or less. The tab in the trigger is for drop safety; IMO, it's poor protection against accidental trigger press. I'm convinced that the best option to a thumb safety is a heavy, DA-style trigger.
All that said, I have several other pistols, but I am interested in this one anyway.

safety builds confidence in a new shooter. me i use pistols with and without but i started with a safety.
remember you do not give newby a full on race bike they have different needs.

I only agree with the gripe about the hammer channel...totally unnecessary. But, pretty much every other gripe I say is a POSITIVE.
I'm tired of everyone ragging on the safety.... It's easy to turn off but hard to turn on... that's literally what everybody wants! People complain about safeties because of accidentally turning them on and then they made one you can't turn on by accident and people still hate it!
Okay I don't like the goal post sight, BUT I love the slant. The curve on the back of the slide and the slanted sight make this the ONLY gun I have that doesn't cut into my skin as I carry it when my side spills out onto it throughout the day.
The grio I think is perfect with it rough in the right spots and then slick on the spot that touches my skin and the spot my shirt will touch, so it doesn't cause my shirt to ride up.
I don't think this is a perfect gun or hell, even a great gun...but these design aspects I wish I could get in something like an M&P because they make it so ridiculously comfortable to carry.

I vote flop. I've owned one since just about the day they came out. Nobody flocks to the S9, there's a fraction of the aftermarket for it. And the original has some strange quirks that could and should be remedied by a Gen 2. But Ruger doesn't normally follow that method of continual improvements. They remind me of GM, build something that somewhat works and people somewhat like, let it die on the vine, then introduce something all new later on. Where as Honda has had the Civic come from shit box to being a standard in small cars. Ruger will eventually sell enough to make back the R&D, but other then color changes, they'll never do anything with it. So it won't age well in the market and it depends heavily on its price point to sell. I own one, and I don't and probably won't ever carry it. It's finicky, not as accurate past 40ish feet, and the finish is already wearing from just laying it down, shifting it around the carpet in the safe, and general handling. So I vote mildly successful flop.

Wow... You REALLY didn't want to make a positive review of this pistol, did you? So you picked nits instead...
The Security 9 is not a flop... this review is.
BTW, what's with all you anti-manual safety guys, anyway?? It should be a NON ISSUE. If you don't want to use a manual safety, then just IGNORE IT. Problem solved... There's no reason to call on the manufacturer to remove it just because it's a feature that YOU don't want to use. I'd never buy a firearm that DIDN'T have a safety (so no Glocks for me... BOO-HOO), and I'm by no means alone in that opinion.
