/!\ VERY IMPORTANT BEFORE DISASSEMBLING THE ENVY M6 /!\ If you have the model with the backlit keyboard, there will be 2 wires coming out of the keyboard. The very large one is for the keyboard itself and the tiny one on the middle of the keyboard is for the backlights. The backlight wire does NOT have any form of plastic connector on its end, so to unplug it, pull VERY LIGHTLY the black part of the connector and then pull the wire out of it. DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE WIRE BY HOLDING THE WHITE PART OF THE CONNECTOR This part is soldered onto the motherboard directly with the pins that makes the connection. If you even move it just a tiny bit out of the tiny steel brackets the connector pins will bend, break from the motherboard, and fly everywhere. There are only 4 pins but if they get teared off the motherboard, even if you find them, bend them back to their original shape and put them back inside the white connector, they still need to be soldered on the motherboard. Even if you place back the white connector, the backlights will never come back :( as you can tell, this happened to me. I hope nobody do this error, even if the backlight is useless, it was part of the Envy m6's style.
Yariel Stella Yes it does but as you can expect, it's used by the network card. But if you can connect this laptop directly to the net with a cable, its internet speed is increased a lot.
Yariel Stella Yeah I've seen that kind of thing some time ago.. I don't know how well it works but yes, those external connectors are made for this kind of slot. But no need to disassembly the whole pc to access the network card! only remove the battery, unscrew the middle part under the laptop and then slide down this cover while holding down the battery unlock button then you simply have to unscrew the plastic cover next to the ram and there is the network card.
Thanks a ton. it helped me to get the dust out of my fan and now it no longer overheats. Used to be pretty bad, but now there are no problems. From one enthusiast to another. Thanks!
The white gloves make the camera adjust its contrast making the shot difficult to make out. Wear grey gloves or gloves complementary to the background for a consistent contrast.
Thank you so much. Was able to clean out the fan on my daughter's computer. I have a newer model HP and I'm happy to say that I can simply pop the back plastic cover off and access the fan. No removing the keyboard, ribbon cables, etc., etc.
THANKS A LOT! Really helped me with solving overheat problem. HP fell significantly in my personal ranking of notebook manufacturers after all this mess with the fan. :\
i have no idea why they cant make fans and heat sinks easy acces just take the lid off and its right there ,, all this micky mousing around disconcting literally everything else leads to more possible problems...
epicxel I think probably so people are less comfortable with taking it apart and putting it back together. While I was taking mine apart, the thought occurred to me that the CPU fan should be made similarly to the DVD drive. held in place by one screw and able to slide right out the side. But then geeksquad or HP customer care wouldn't make any money.
Wait...so all I want to do is replace the bad thermal paste on the cpu. So you're telling me I have to disassemble the ENTIRE laptop???! I'm just trying to fix it so I can give it to a friend. Not so sure about the giving part anymore.
Thank you so much for the video. Something was stuck in my cooling fan and with the help of your video I've successfully fixed it Thank you once again 😊😊😊 p.s USB ports are operational too which were out of order due to dust on the board.
Good tutorial, now I know where all the screws I need to take out. Thank you. Not sure if someone asked or told you this before. You used something like a blade to remove the access cover for the hard drive and ram, why didn't you just use the battery release? The battery release and hd/ram access cover release is connected. Anyway, thanks again.
I tried to do this but by time the video hit 2:00 I got scared stopped and put it together but when I turned the laptop on it had a black screen and was beeping please help
My computer is constantly overheating, and the fan sounds like it is grinding something extremely loudly. Today, my computer exceeded 250F and I am determined to fix it before it melts. Do you recommend that I take it apart as shown here?
If want to know do i think that it can help - yes, but i don't force anyone to repeat anithing that i do on the video, video was made to inform how laptop can be disassembled
Are all these steps necessary to just clean the fan? I don't have a good area to take the whole thing apart in and have very little experience doing so. I know if I get any more dust in there than it already has it could cause more problems than I'll fix. If not would just using a can of condensed air be good enough to clean out any dust inside. I don't currently have one but if I have to spend the money to get one I will (not much money to spare at the moment.) Also does this laptop just have a tendency of overheating, could this have nothing to do with dust? I ask because I can't really see all that much dust in the fan but I could have sworn that the fan used to blow air out faster than it currently does. Could be imagining that due to it overheating as much as it does lately. Funny part is I'm only streaming Crunchyroll lately.
Tyler Carpenter hi, actually can't say would condensed air help you or not. Deal is sometimes dust gether to a dust pillow and i that case this way could not work. Imo it better to clean fan after its disessembling, this is most effetive. But if you don't shure in your expirence maybe it's better to ask someone to help you.
спасибо большое! помогло с решением проблемы! а проблема заключалась в застывшем главном куллере! сам сидел мудрил и пытался разобрать 2-3 часа, до просмотра видое, после за 5 минут аккуратно справился!!1
and it's not so much that the fan is or gets dirty but the dust collects on the heat sink fins in between the fan and the heatsink. thus blocking the airflow to the fins. the fan is still blowing air. there just isn't a clean passage way for the air to flow threw.
Had this laptop back in 2013/2014, used it to play battlefield 3 and Dota 2, but then the fan started making noise so i decided to buy a gaming pc instead and left it in a box for 5 years, now i'm thinking of doing this lol
I agree 100%, bought it 6 years ago stopped working it 3 years ago and 2 years ago I built my own desktop (which I fking loooooove and is an absolute best of a computer). I'm taking apart this one to use the screen as a second monitor for (and possibly the hard drive too for more space). There's so many stripped screws in mine too, really shows how much care went into manufacturing this junk.
Hello! Thx for the video! I have a question. I've just tired to replace my motherboard, but unluckily, the laptop won't start(It spins up, but after 3 seconds it automaitcally turns off. Can it be the problem, if I placed a bit much thermal conductor on the gpu, and it rises some metal on the neighbouring green board?
Hello! Probably problem is not in thermal conductor, but it better to remove excess thermal paste. I suppose problem can be solved by reconnection all modules to MB, such as: RAM, CPU, HDD, bios battery etc. Then is all parts working correct laptop should start normaly.
hi nice tut. my Szenario i have envy m6 too, my batterie broke 2 months ago so just cable power on laptop. then i played Games and it get hot sometimes so it shut down the system than everytime easily restarted. but yesterday it get a little more hot and just the system broke down. if i try to start now it dont react so it is not starting. i know maybe something is broke now on the Motherboard or what do you Think?? i love this laptop dont wanna buy another one, i know i should have buy a new butterie but you know student live :D. hard drive is Working rams too si what can it be??
I have not watched the video completely, but if the purpose is to clean the fan filter, it is enough to use canned air. The risk of having issues after disassembly is too high in my opinion. (I have done it in the past and will not do it again).
TL canned air is great if done on a regular basis. Most people don't use it until overheating is an issue. When it becomes an issue, canned air isn't going to do anything because the dust has collected into a sheet that's thick enough to severely restrict air flow. When you blow into it with compressed air, where do you want it to go? if you blow in the fan's intake, it's an easier path for the air to take to just come back out the intake rather than break apart the dust sheet after somehow turning 90 degrees. when you blow into it from the side, it forces the dust sheet into the fan blades restricting flow there and compacting the problem for later. There comes a point where this is the only option. The moral of the story? A stitch in time saves nine. A little preventative maintenance goes a LONG way.
+How-FixIT thanks for the video! helped me get all that dust out of the fan and crap inside. however when i resembled it, my '2wsx' keys dont work anymore and did before the dismantlement. any idea which parts will be responsible?
took out only the keyboard part with the film attached to it and reattached it, along with reattaching similar films underneath the keyboard. didnt do a full dismantle tho cuz that took hrs. but if i were to do a 2nd time i want to know what is causing it
if you break the motherboard cable connectors like me, slide them into place with a sheet of paper on top so it makes contact by force, if it wasn't for my past as a electronic-toy-breaker-kid I would've bought another motherboard, I hope you don't have to either ^^
Hey, thanks for the video but I got a huge question. I took it apart to clean my fan and on the end where you take the copper end from the board I see yours had a triangle part attached to it. Mine did not come with one...??? Is yours a different model? Whats that triangle piece? looks like you had a chip underneath that area too. Can you please shed light on this. Im bugging out! O_O
Issues I experienced in one year of owning it: Wifi hardware was always garbage. Constantly disabled itself or lost connection and required troubleshooting. You're a lifesaver
well i was going to clean my m6 out but having watched this i am going to stick my hoover over the in and out vents and hope for the best
Why can't the fan be one of the easiest things to access?
The question that must be asked to HP.
+GreenJacketCS
HP: Oh, you want to clean your fan easily? Lets make it the hardest thing to get too.
+How-FixIT My HP Envy m6 is overheating right at my WASD Key area, does that mean the fan needs a cleaning?
+GreenJacketCS HP should put you as CEO
Alex Eckhardt yes this can mean that air outlet obstructed, 2nd reason can be that you can't fill blown air flow, or it weak
Thanks a ton. it helped me to get the dust out of my fan and now it no longer overheats. Used to be pretty bad, but now there are no problems. From one enthusiast to another. Thanks!
Replaced my fan last month and now everything works fine again.
This guide helped me a lot. Thank you!
The white gloves and black sleeves really does make it feel like a classy joint.

I want to just replace the fan. Any idea if I have to to take the back cover off for that?
Honestly just take a vacuum and put it up to the vents, then dust should fly out because of the suction
Good tutorial, now I know where all the screws I need to take out. Thank you.

My M6 heats real bad right on the bottom left side - right to the left of the mouse pad. will this fix work or nah?
My hinge broke through the bottom of my case. Is it necessary to do all this just to replace the bottom plastic cover??
I tried to do this but by time the video hit 2:00 I got scared stopped and put it together but when I turned the laptop on it had a black screen and was beeping please help
probably problem in RAM. Try to put it out, clean dust on conntacts (but don't wet it), and put it back, carefully.
Hello. What or which tools are best as recommended?
Is it possible to upgrade the processor in this laptop, just curious!
here's how to dismantle your whole laptop to clean your fan that is actually complete shit on this model
Of course you have to take the keyboard out 🙄
My computer is constantly overheating, and the fan sounds like it is grinding something extremely loudly. Today, my computer exceeded 250F and I am determined to fix it before it melts. Do you recommend that I take it apart as shown here?

Jose Rojas this is not necessarily but better to use it
How-FixIT If you don't use it, the internet trolls come after you. ;)
Jose Rojas I would say yes unless you really like buying new laptops. Without one, you can short out expensive or irreplaceable components.
can you make a video showing how to put it back together thank you
right now I can't do it, sorry
will you be able to? and when?
Dop34Life maybe soon. The deal is that I havn't this laptop now, so can't do it
B
i regret buying this laptop sooooo much, basic junk, overheats cant controll disk usage slowww you name it!!! thanx hp never again

I have the same laptop. When i turn it on it turns off by its self after about 2 - 3 minutes. Do you know why or how i can fix it?
i can't know the reason because of many things. I suppose it better to apply to a service center
Alright thanks anyway^^

while opening my first screw got slipped and does not coming out bro
pls help me in fixing this problem
I did it well, thanks . Next time more light in the video would be nice.
puede ser cualquier pasta termica?
o de alguna en especifico?
thanks this was helpful. i hate this laptop now though.
Hello, could somebody tell me where is the flat cable IDE for the CD ROM pls???
At what minutes in the video can we see it for instance???
can you make a video putting it back together
Unfortunatly I can't.
Watch it in reverse?
94Horcrux just try to do same but in reverse order
Took it apart and replaced the fan. Now the fan works but the laptop doesn't boot. Caps flashing three times, wifi light stays on. Black display. :(
Can you do the Hp enveyx360?
Hello! Somebody know what a small boards from each side of touch-pad? Thanks.
thanks a lot.. it is really help full for me.. when I Assembly back I miss some screws... 😊😊😊but thanks a lot..
только я бы советовал использовать вместо отвертки/ножа, для отсоединения панелек, кредитку. Я когда свой отверткой поддевал, поцарапал немного клаву.
HELP! Ive done everything and when assembled back it wont turn on, it beeps like crazy

is any change the I can find a need cover the one the you took off the computer, the projectsmart is because my broke
What if I did it and then couldn't turn it on and was making a noise? DD:
Thanks for this video, really useful!
buen tutorial pero ha poca clarida y casi no se ve
+How-FixIT what tools do you use?
Thank you, it was very helpful
this one's isn't as bad to clean as some of the other ones.
What is he removing at :41 ?

Ye_gee Btw I have a hp envy m6-1205dx
Ye_gee It seems that you have same model but without GPU, just with intergrated gpaphics. Triangle piece designed for GPU
Thanks again.
Thank you very much
Exelent work !!!
Thank you.
thanks
One of the worst laptops I ever owned paired with early windows 10 issues every other update. At least I got through college with it.
Issues I experienced in one year of owning it:
Wifi hardware was always garbage. Constantly disabled itself or lost connection and required troubleshooting.
Overheating was always an issue you cant set this laptop down on any flat surface for more than 20 minutes before it overheats.
Finger scanner stopped working.
The screen borders are extremely 'soft' and structurally do not protect the screen from pressure or accidental bumps. In fact the direct all force right onto the LCD. Leading to it's inevitable damage and replacement from an enthusiastic closing after completing some work.
The cd rom drive would not pop out when pressed you have to pry it after disengaging the lock.
The cpu was weak as shit to begin with.
It contains unnecessarily soldered on parts making maintenance or upgrades ridiculous to do and increased risk of damaging.

Video to dark can't see detail.
Omfg and I thought cleaning a fan would be easy
Just like a remote control.......
Just put it back together and it won't turn on now :D
