  • Rod and I split up to cover Texas and Florida relays, the women came out firing on all cylinders, especially Gabby Thomas and Julien Alfred. Will Quincy Wilson make the Olympics at 16 years old, and we get into the importance of therapy in pro sports. Lastly, some great mailbag questions.

Okay but it’s a relay. The 4 fastest doesn’t always equal the fastest relay team. It’s about how well you execute and pass around that baton as seamlessly as possible. Of course easier said than done, and that world record is definitely a tall order that won’t be easily broken.

Powell wasn't on the record team... a 9.94 Nesta and 9.95 Frater were. Both Usain and Asafa were sub 9.7 in 2012. The potential group of Coleman, Kerley, Knighton and Noah could all be sub 9.8 in an Olympic year. The "raw speed" is closer than you may think.

What you have to take into account is that when a team run the 4x100 final in the Olympic! That's after they have run the 100M, 200M and all the rounds that associated with those event, plus the semi for the 4x100, it's hard to run fast times in the 4x100 final, so don't read too much into a one off run, at a meet where you don't have all those other things to do...

Jamaica set that record when USA also broke the American record(and the previous world record). Then of course the elements you cannot control factors in. They will need to be perfect to break the record

Getting the baton around efficiently and effectively is what plagues the American men in the 4x1. If they spend time working on those handoffs, then challenging the WR would be believable. Remember the women’s WR didn’t have any women who ran sub 10.8 except for Carmelita. Today’s American (and Jamaican) sprinters are faster, and both teams still didn’t break 41 seconds for the same reason.

So I’d be more shock if Jamaica wins a major title event. They are alot of talent in Jamaica, but we haven’t seen another Asafa, Blake or Bolt level talent yet. Unless Blake can surprise and regain his former form in his last Olympics. America has some serious runners right now.

Apologies, but no team of today will ever beat the extraordinary Jamaican 4x100 team which had history’s 2 fastest men ever.
You should have the worlds top 2 fastest sprinters, at the same time, peaking/being at their prime with other two absolute beast sprinters with superior experience in high pressure competitions.
Then you would have to absolutely get the baton exchange not just smooth, but also right without wasting even 1/10th of a millisecond. On top of which, everyone in the team must have or should be capable to run 9.7change on a high pressure day.
After all this, you must be extremely confident and lucky to get the inside lanes so that victory is always in sight..
And even after all this, there is still a huge doubt if weather, temperature, mental conditions, race fatigue and other parameters are favourable to you.
When the absolute best USA team of legends like Gatlin and literally Cheetahs like Tyson gay couldn’t beat it, it shows what a big ask and a mountain of a task this is.
To put in a single word : NO ❤
