      Is that one song you're talking about called Rock Star by Prima J? Cuz I still listen to it TILL THIS DAY 😂
      Idk about that, there will still be Stan wars so why leave it till the end. It's not really rapping just slow talking or it has a rhyme to it, like rap is different cuz they have lyrics that are more urban I guess.

      Originator of the unpop opinion here! Def got me thinking when we as audience members were asked "Is it rap cause of the styling or does the style of the music classify it as a rap?" (Are you strong cause you're Gojo, or are you Gojo cause you're strong?) I got this question when listening to Everything is Romantic, 365 & Club Classics as notable songs of influence. There's something about Charli's spoken word lyricism that stems to rap for me, which then lends me to ask, "Could spoken word be classified as a rap style?" It really speaks to Naomi's discussion of genre blending in this case as well. Please, put me on to the video you guys are discussing about Charli as a rapper so I can check it out!

    I think also what they could mean by “white boy of the month” is problematic also by the language. “White” in this case is just a descriptor of the person they are obsessing over, but it shouldn’t be used that way. In the context of the US, “white” is not like “black” where it could also be a descriptor of your culture (black american), it’s sole connection is to white supremacy. Because of the unique cultural experience and history of black Americans they have a tie to the word black. The history of whiteness in America was started and is currently only with the history of colonization and white supremacy. There’s no cultural heritage tied along with it. So when people use “white” in tangent with “boy”. It can kinda infantilize and erase the context of the word.And also turn it into something that seems harmless. idk if that make sense 😭

    • @Kevin-rg3yc
      @Kevin-rg3yc 2 місяці тому +28

      lol as the person who made that white boy of the month problematic comment this is a great elaboration of the point I was making. I also said the trend was problematic bc it felt it was glorifying white male masculinity and sex appeal which have always been the standard within society. As a chronically online person since my preteen years I know it was mostly women and LGBTQ people of color who started this trend as a ironic joke but it got turned into this weird obsession over lusting after any white dude I also know it was based around the trauma of black/asian women and LGBTQ people feeling rejected by the men within the community for white women and queer men but it becomes a little weird when you flip it and do the same thing but add some type of ironic hipster humor to it. That was the point I was making

      @@periodt87 it’s making sense! I think it also kinda minimizes their talent/ devalues the craft in general bc we’re just looking for “cute white person (tm)” and that becomes the focus over whether they can actually act or not… which maybe even leads to ppl just “fancasting” ppl they think are cute bc they fit a certain beauty standard. Like a very reductive way to view actors/ acting in general in order to keep pedestalizing whiteness… idk but we see each other 🫶🏾

For the sake of the argument, does that mean it has to be an homage of sorts as well for the body of work to be classified as rap? Rap does also act as a derivative of spoken word, or is it the other way around? Essentially, what's the standard or line here to classifying a body of work as spoken word vs rap/hip hop vs melodic rapping vs chanting? This is where the genre blending comes in as well.

    11:30 rap is demonstrated in delivery. I don’t think rap is set to a specific genre. Nicki Minaj has many pop rap hits. It can literally go with any genre. But You do not “sing” while you rap. It’s essentially slam poetry. It’s about your flow with tone delivery and inflection and almost attitude. That verse in 360 is singing. That is a lyric not a bar. Beyonces America Has A Problem is an example of a singer rapping on her song. I think these kpop girlies have confused the masses.

    Help! Community Posts: I never get the notification for it. I literally have to search for the post in order to drop the opinion. Does anyone know what's wrong? Is it a setting or a time difference thing? I've never gotten them at all.

    I don't think the "platonic relationships are just as valuable as romance" person got the origin of the idiom right. I'm not a native speaker, but I've always assumed "friends and more" means "they are friends and something else on top of their friendship". That being said, I agree with the moral point. Friends are not any less important than romance.

      Hi, I'm that person. I didn't actually do my homework on the origin of the phrase, I just kind of took whatever meaning I took from it and assumed that was the general idea. So yeah, you and others saying similar things do have a point here. I would understand being in someone's Beyoncé Beyoncé tier here 😂

    The “name tags” I thought, with my 43 year old self Always thought it was done to separate an artist from others and ppl automatically would know we could be talking bout MTS anytime you hear “Reallll Hot Girl shiiii” Is one example 👌🏾💁🏽‍♀️😂😂 or when Jeezy used to say or adlib Yeahhhhhh after every other sentence or when we hear Kendrick shout out his producer when he said “Mustard on the Beat H00000” or when MTS says and “you know who the beat is by Lil Ju made it”….😂😂😂 that’s what comes to mind when producers, artist or even DJs have a lil # to introduce them and to get us to know it’s them simply by their recognizable beats or tagline 💯🤌🏾👌🏾😂😂😂

    Alsooo IMO and seeing where hip hop/rap started, stood for and who were the Original faces of “genre” is the Exact reason they’ve made genres and even have made big deals about whose in them bc it’s like being put in a box that you’re creatively are expected to stay in and race was thrown into genres too for a plethora of reasons💁🏽‍♀️ it’s documented and this current generation should be privy of, especially if they’re black, how blk ppl Literally started off that thing such as a “genre” and other races downright hijacked it and ran us out and when it’s proven we started rockNroll, jazz/blues, hip hop/rNb, COUNTRY And more but slowly they’ve boxed us in as being faces and representation for ONLY the genre they’ve actively help get to the horrible state it’s in now💯🤌🏾💁🏽‍♀️

    Something that I feel is interesting is that AI has ruined my appreciation for out-there/maximalist album covers, since AI is often used to create chaotic images and overly complex and fantastical imagery I feel like now even when an album cover is made organically if it isn’t minimalist or simplistic it is harder for me to appreciate what do you think @naomi.cannibal
