God damn man. I’m 32 and all I heard in my parents car going anywhere was golden oldies and this style of classic free rock n roll. This all needs to come back. It touches the soul.

It's been a long long ride,
Don't know where I'll sleep tonight.
    Oh under the stars
Or maybe in your bed alright.
    Against the wind
    I crossed your desert today.
    Don't care what you say
    Cause baby I'm goin'a stay.
Yeah I'll comb this whole beach over
Trying to find the love that'll stay.
It's been a long, long journey
Don't know where I left my mind.
    Down in the canyon
Or maybe in the back of your ride.
I'm heading down by the river
    To kill your daddy tonight
And by the break of day
You know that we'll be outta sight.
Girl I'll search this whole world over
Trying to find the love that'll stay

It's a classic in obscure 60s collecting. That same band (The Roots) had some other winning sides as well. Lost One is a great one! Though it should also be noted that they were also known as the Wyld. *They were some teens from South Carolina!
I uploaded the song on my old channel ages ago. OldSchoolHero66.
If you like stuff like this or that, maybe stop by this one. :)
Anyway! I was just glad to see people fall for the original like I and this band did. So good!

Hi I start by saying that i love what the Allah-Las are doing - HOWEVER on this 45 they credit this track to themselves which is NOT TRUE as it is a straight cover of "It's Been a Long Journey" by THE ROOTS released in 1966 on the BROWNFIELD label and written by Rudy Wyatt. This is a highly sought after Garage collectable selling in the $500 region.

    • @kylegeib9161
      @kylegeib9161 4 роки тому +1

This is maybe my favorite song in existence and when I found the original a few years ago I was really entertained by this fact. Today, I was bored at work and wrote the lyrics of the two songs side-by-side and I gotta say that it's a very very different song. Of course, credit to original is 100% deserved, but I would not say it's a "straight cover". I imagine if The Roots and Rudy Wyatt could be told in 1966 that some random band from California would lovingly cover their song but could also hear it I'm sure they'd be blown away by what they'd hear.
I also got to listen to Avid Dancer's version as well. Very cool version, too.

@@kylegeib9161 I am a songwriter in Nashville and Rudy Wyatt is a friend of mine since he was 15 and I was 19. I met him in a music store one Saturday and he was playing "Flight Of The Bumble Bee" on a Stratocaster off the shelf there. I was impressed and took him in the studio to record some stuff. He is 74 now and getting a bit of Dementia. I hooked him up with the producer in Texas who had gotten my band with a national label out of Philadelphia. Then "It's been a Long Journey" came out as his first record. He calls most every week to chat a little and two weeks ago, he told me that he got a check for over $5000 and was excited about that. I just listened to this cut by this band and it sounds a whole lot like him singing, except better, because he was 16 and went a bit flat a few times. However, honestly, I think Rudy's guitar parts were better done than the guy here. He came to a concert for this band in Asheville, NC, and I have a picture on my Facebook page of him backstage talking to them. I was just on the U tube watching a couple of fishing videos and some of my 15 or so songs that people have put on the tube and remembered Rudy telling me about getting another Royalty check from Sony Music, and decided to listen to Allah-Las again and then saw your comment. I think they did make it a little longer arrangement, but back then this producer liked for everything to run between 2:15 and 2:50. He said it was easier to get program directors to play them. I like this new version fine. The singer actually sings it better and on key always. lol But I do like Rudy's guitar better. Hey! Rudy took up piano in the mid-seventies and became one of the top 5 Boogie Woogie piano players in the world. He has played all over the world, including Disney World too. There are several videos of him on the tube. One is "Swanee River Boogie" by Rudy "Blue Shoes" Wyatt. After that it would show you some others I guess. Anyway I thought I would give you my opinion, and some info on Rudy. Hope you didn't mind.

+Isabel Rodriquez lol, I do realize I sound snobbish, but what else can I do when I have been listening to Garage Rock for like over 30 years now. I can't even remember when I bought the Fort Worth volume of the Teen Scene series. For good Garage compilations, try Back from the Grave, Pebbles, Nuggets, Monsters of the Midwest, Mind Rocker, Acid Dreams and so on - or become a member of the Garage Punk, Surf , Psych, Wild Rock & Roll, Trash, Punk Rock & Fuzz group on FB where many people, including myself, daily post badass Garage Rock or Surf instros and anything related. As where the Allah Las are concerned, as stated previously, I just wonder how far can copyism go? When will we actually hear Allah Las instead of other bands like the Standells? They're like the Chesterfield Kings in the 80's - just like them a case of copyism taking way too far. I mean, the Lyres were a Sixties Garage revival band too as were others, but they at least had a recognizable sound. NB: the New England volume of the Teen Scene series is imo the best one. Cheers. Edit: I actually don't post daily - only on Friday and Saturday :)
