To be fair some of us have been criticizing the Heat system since the stress tests. I was one of them. It’s overpowered and needs to be toned down. Or at least let players step the stupid heat burst moves. Other than that the game is good.

There have been a lot of us, yelling from the roof tops since Heat was announced as a new mechanic, that it doesn’t belong in Tekken and that it sets a bad precedent. So now in a grand effort to cator to casuals, it’s opened the doors to other unsavory decisions, but n regards to balancing and in game shops etc. Now even the dreaded the dreaded Eddy b1,4 counte hit launcher that made TAG2 a hellscape is back.
We (naysayers, minority crybabies according to our opponents in forum debates) kept getting into forums wars and arguments in comment sections. And we were always dismissed and told to stfu as “minority”, “nostalgia glasses wearing dunces”, “old men” or the common “you havent played the game yet!”
It doesn’t take much to recognize when something isn’t a good idea. I’ve learned to trust my instincts long ago, and I knew from the jump T8 would be no better than T7 if not worse. They got us good with that initial showcase with Jin fighting Kaz in the rain. All you saw were simple jabs and better animated roundhouse kicks and block animations on top of gorgeous graphics with realistic character models. That’s all Tekken really needs. A nice new paint job and new outfits, moves and animations, New n top of the staple of stages and great music.
Any extra mechanics causes problems…..always. There’s a reason Tekken revolution and T7 originally were such breaths of fresh air, because it was back to basics and simplicity. No more bound or tag shenanigans, because these things are just there to bloat an already solid format. The classic T3, T5 gameplay of footsies and pokes and good reads is what makes good azz tekken. But then of course those games (Rev,T7) got their own host of problems with invincible moves an the shenanigan of T7 with RA/RD, reduced side steps through better tracking, meters, and just awful pay to win balancing. How great Tekken Rev or T7 would’ve been if it would’ve been just normal Tekken without the crazy mechanics. Change for the sake of change isn’t always a good thing, and doesn’t always work.
In their effort to add something new for the sake of “change” or “evolving the series” they always end up doing too much and ruining the equilibrium of this series.
Like Icarus Harada and Bamco are their own worst enemy and fly too close to the sun with their wings made of wax. To them I say,….K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid. Less is more. And stop trying to fit a triangle into a circle shaped hole.

When people who have played more than the most recent 2 Tekken games they have a lot more room to gripe in my opinion. They supported the franchise for way longer and now actually have no place to go. Think about this Tekken for the longest time was the only fighting game without supers and super bars, now what do you have Virtua Fighter and Dead or Alive maybe. The more it changes to be like everything else on the market, the less unique the game actually is. Leading to less originality, less risks, and more people pointing to the sales of the game as the reason why it's good rather than anything in the actual game that is unique to it.

    • @panzerfaust8452
      @panzerfaust8452 Місяць тому +6

Then I have another question: how do you define Tekken?
I define Tekken as a complex, movement and defense-based fighting game, and I still think that Tekken 8 is the same in that regard. Sure, it's got some new things, and a whole new meter system(Is it really a meter system if it can't be regained once it's depleted?).
It didn't change the game enough that would make me go "Aight, that not Tekken, that's more like *any othe fighting game*" If they added a universal hold system for every character, a triangle-based damage system(strikes beat whiffed throws harder, throws beat missed holds harder, and just-frame holds reverse massive damage to strikes), and rage arts could be used for repositioning, setting up okizeme, or for redirecting enemy into a stage hazard - then it wouldn't be Tekken. That would be Dead or Alive.
Honestly, it feels like everyone laughed at LTG for pointing out that this is a "scrub ass game", and when he was banned and more players started using new mechanics more, people MASSIVELY turned into LTGs, claiming that this "ain't no Tekken" and "You couldn't pull shit like this in T7". No wonder, that's why it's Tekken 8, not Tekken 7.

    Why tekken becomes boring quickly:
1.) introduction of Special style. Literally Special players have reached high ranks with 1 button combos
2.) Too much bias on aggressive gameplay. Tekken 7 had better defense game. Now people just throw a combo and pray it gonna work
3.) Introduction of characters with 1 button combos
4.) Battle pass and a lot of paid content

    • @alekid
      @alekid Місяць тому +6

-Special style sucks. It should be called "dumb style" as it requires no understanding of anything. It's way too dumbed down compared to SF6 Modern Controls. In the end I don't see how Special Style might help newcomers learn the game, while SF6 Modern controls are indeed a true alternative to the point that some characters can be entirely played that way while retaining most of their complexity.
-If there is one thing I don't like about ALL fighting games are juggle combos: keeping people flying in the air by slapping their ankles is visually silly and doesn't demonstrate any strategy, cos you let muscles do the job. The more your hands memorize the more you go. I enjoy the game so much when neither player goes for long combos and they study each other like 2 samurais. Whenever that happens I have a lot of fun, but it's indeed pretty rare unfortunately.
And it's not just a Tekken issue, that's the problem.

I think everyone who has a clue and cares about Tekken's core gameplay mechanics isn't happy with this game's current state. It's unpolished and badly balanced, while the developers focus on squeezing out every penny out of you with scammy business practices instead of fixing the game. I understand that people who just like to mash buttons mindlessly enjoy the game in it's current state. But Tekken veterans care about skill expressed by things like execution, movement, timing, reaction, punishment, awareness etc. AND mind games.
Tekken 8 turned into a dull mash fest where you can throw out broken super moves non-stop with no or very hard counter play and force massive pressure by pressing a button. Combined with the bad netcode, it tuns into an infuriating and exhausting experience. Tekken 7 was pretty broken on its arcade release too, Tekken 8 didn’t have that luxury and released globally immediately. this game will evolve a lot in the years to come, not only for balances but most likely changes to heat, throw breaks windows (they mentioned this) etc. the game still has plenty of pros, and it’s still a very fun game with a very new/fresh gameplay style. it’s better to wait and see when it comes to gameplay imo.

I think people in general are just frustrated overall how fighting games are going. It’s not stuff being overpowered it’s taking away creativity or winning in your own way. Every game nowadays gears towards aggression and high damaging moves and combos that do not take execution. For instance I main Shaheen, his ws 3 extensions are incredibly hard to do least for me, but I can get the same damage or close to it simply doing a way easier combo that takes zero skill.
That’s the issue I feel. To win there is no defensive style, it’s all yolo mechanics or forced 50/50.
I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between Arslan playing or knee.
Before you could watch matches and could tell by the playstyle who was at the helm.
For instance I could tell in tekken 7 when low high was playing shaheen or AK or sephiblack based on their playstyle.
Same goes for let’s say Daigo or Punk in SF.
However with each game playstyle get so homogenized that it all feels the same
That to me is the issue, artists wanting to create their own style using the mediums given to them, but being handed a blue crayon and a napkin with a gun to their head and being told make a smiley face.
That and like I said online is completely unacceptable. For god sake Killer Instinct which came out like over a decade ago has better online than most current fighting games.
I simply want more matches, less loading screens, i pay for really good internet im hardwired, i shouldn’t be spending so much time “looking for opponent” or dealing with 3 to 10 frames of forced lag and playing a version of tekken 8 that’s not even tekken 8 its people adapting to a crappy online which usually means using moves that crush, have high damage, and low execution.
That to me is the problem. I’ll take my losses all day, i rather have an earned loss than a win that feels artificial to me.
I just want to feel like i’m having fun, trying to create a positive environment, i’m big on helping others and i sincerely miss the arcade days because yes there was drama, salt, etc at times but 95 percent of the people were chill, we would help one another learn, and it built a community.
Now i feel like an old man watching from the window of my house as kids outside flex their customizations on instagram and then run away when their single mom asks where her credit card is.
I just miss feeling like this is a positive experience for me
I may drop tekken 8 and play some helldivers i keep saying that but idk man. this game could be amazing but namco is focusing on all the wrong things

I feel like phidx(lowercase cause the bots get weird when I mention names for some reason) has had the most honest take in this discourse. I don't have a problem with the game being offensively geared. It's a fighting game, I'm just elbowing my way through the line for a scrap. In that aspect, I think Tekken 8 gets the job done. Very surface level and superficial, but busted patch aside, I still think Tekken 8 is incredible. What phidx said though, and I'm inclined to agree, is that nerfs are more meaningful than just buffing everyone. Everyone gets buffed, then they basically all play the same, just with different hurt boxes, different tempos, different everything except overall strategy. You can't zone like you're playing Guile, you are forced to get in there and engage. Strategies are part of what makes fighting games interesting to watch, and I feel like if everyone is built as an offensive juggernaut, even people that don't play Tekken 8 will start to catch on to how samey and complacent the competitive meta is.
On the note of the meta, I won't ever shame you for playing a strong character, lol. Feng is jacked, he's strong, he feels good to play and he gets results. Those are all the reasons you need to justify yourself. I ever see you in Ranked or a lobby, I think a Feng in Tekken King will be excellent practice in dealing with one of the top 5 strongest characters. Historically, I've very rarely seen serious competitors playing characters the community regarded as weak. If Daigo was playing Sean for the EVO cup, we never would have had Moment 37 immortalized. You bought the game, it's your kitchen, you decide how to cook.

In the podcast that phidx was watching in that but you are commenting on the players, including Arslan all elaborate on their feeling for the game. General concensus between them all was that the game needle is tipping a bit too far towards offence but it still could be the best tekken ever. Some of the things they agreed on were the top tiers are overturned, heat mechanics should be toned down a little bit, throws shouldnt track, they should rethink which moves do chip damage, and mid power crushes shouldnt also heat engage.

This isnt tekken.....at least not what I remember about Tekken and what I enjoyed about Tekken. I feel like this game is mainly just for Streamers and Tournament players.. but not for casuals. Its meant to be flashy...... but that's what I think majority of Tekken players liked about Tekken. It wasn't flashy. To me Tekken/VF were the non-flashy fighters while Street Fighter/MK were.
Its what set them apart. Now Tekken just feels like a Street Fighter game with projectiles and super moves. Rage Art + Heat is just trash mechanics which need to go away. And I Believe you can dislike something..and continue playing it because its a series you enjoy. And obviously for some of them.. its their lively hood (tournaments) so to just give that up would be hard. But I hope they get back to basics with Tekken 9.. if im still playing by that time. "If you're losing to people, you can't fall back on 'Well you wouldn't have gotten away with this in Tekken 7'..."
That excuse is practically LTG's anthem. I have never heard someone complain so much, except for maybe DSP. I don’t watch his streams but I do watch some of the channels here that clown on him, and it seems to be a trademarked cry for him 😂.
On the "Shambolic Patch" dropped recently, my tin foil hat theory is that the team did it on purpose because they don't like how Bandai is nickel and diming the community with costumes and the Fight Pass. Can't prove this either way honestly, but them not finding such game breaking shit as the Rage Art bug when the community found it within hours is very interesting.
People are also blaming Harada and I certainly get that because he's the figurehead, but they forget about TTT2 and how he got much of the extras provided to us for "free", but the game sold poorly. I think he's not fully on board with everything this time, but he's got people to answer to just like anyone else. More tinfoil hat stuff though, obviously can't prove it either way.
The Yakuza series is pretty much my favorite too. Been a fan since the first game on PS2. Most people disliked the dub, but the ridiculousness of it actually made the game even more enjoyable for me back then. Right from the beginning, "Excuse you? No....FUCK You!"😂😂😂, I had to see it through.

    • @DPantherful1
      @DPantherful1 Місяць тому +1

I had that same thought about Tag2 and the DLC.
I would like to believe Harada would keep his word on DLC characters being free in 7, but the bosses up top said that if T7 doesn't get money, then Tekken goes the way of the dodo.
And now, it's a case of publishers and the suits and the shareholders getting greedy. T7 got them money, T8 definitely got them money. What they need more for?
If the DLC characters were free in T7, we wouldn't be here in T8. I put that on every dollar I'll ever earn in my life.
As for monetization influencing game patches and decisions, that might be tinfoil hat theory. If it isn't, there has to be another way of sticking it to BAMCO. Like making T9 actually Tag2.5 😂. But you can't mess with the fans of the game to spite the publisher. Not to say that I think they are, the heat system, the overall aggression and stage hazards(that are not floor and wall breaks) is as much as new to them as it is to us. I'm hoping (and hopefully not coping) that it's just growing pains and we'll get past it.
Gameplay wise, not monetization. Fuck monetization, get bent backwards to any and all who suggested it for this game.

I disagree completely. Titles mean nothing. Tekken 9 can come out as a 2D fighter like street fighter 1:1. Can you say it's still Tekken legitimately? A games close similarity to its predessors makes it what it is. If some say T8 isn't Tekken theyre valid in their opinion. The devs can charge a games indentity where it's not what it was. Devs do this all the time its why FF15 didnt sell well. FF is primarily a JPRG franchise known for deep turn based battles and a rich narrative. 15 was an action game withiut the deep complexity of Devil May Cry, some say it doesn't feel like a Final Fantasy, and i agree with them. I repeat: devs can lose sight if what makes a game its known indentity if its a part of a franchise. Your opinion is yours but not the be all end all.

I see your point and somewhat agree but it can also be used against you.
From your earlier point about Final Fantasy 15, the same thing should have happened to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, they should have flopped. They did the same thing as FF15; completely removed the turn-based combat and turned it into an action game. The flop of 15 was still relatively fresh in peoples mind.
Yet hardcore old fans and new ones still gave the game a chance. Why? Because of the title of FF7. The original is still considered to this day, one of the goat's of gaming. That title overcame peoples wariness and in the end both old and new players loved it.

I disagree with the sentiment of this is a new game with new mechanics, get used to it, when it ignores how much of the game is controlled by, and how many high level skill advantages that pros had to train for hours to gain are packed into, these new mechanics.
It's not just that Timmy can mash plus on block honing heat engagers, pop heat, remaining plus, pop his smash and win, it's that the game and it's mechanics have been nerfed to the point where alot of counterplay is scarce and the only recourse is to play the same watered down level of Tekken as everyone else simply to win.
Ok, Timmy doesn't want to dack dash or side step, that's fine. I want to but guess what, it's nerfed and bad take the mix. I want to step this, whatever Timmy is mashing is honing and plus on block, take the mix. I find an opening to start my pressure, Timmy pops heat, that hits half screen basically pressure over. I want to play safe against the aggression and use my best moves to facilitate that, guess what, they're heat I'm engagers. Go in or get wrecked.
Alot of players feel as tho there is not an ability to outplay your opponent unless you are using the same somewhat scrubby fire as they are to win. And when your victory conditions are that focused in one area, with moves that have multiple layers of advantage that use to be represented by the skill and choices of the players choice of moves and movement now just wrapped up in mechanics that chunk 3/4 of your life bar I can see where you feel as though the game is bad because you have to play like this.

Ill mince no words, T7 really did start what T8 finished, its not flawless by any means. Still, high end tekken and the tekken most others play is night and day. The game that pros are playing are not the same, but it is closer in T8 than it is in T7.
When most people really think of the "true tekken", they mostly refer back to Tekken 5, specifically DR. Tekken 7 had nerfed movement and a lot of scuffed balancing decisions through the seasons, but it was nonetheless still a meat n bones Tekken game, not too much gimmicky nonsense (2DS aside) and your mixups had to be earned and there was a good balance of offense and defense.
Arslans kazumi was more than just poke poke poke, if that is what you believe than you just dont understand the game, because just poking in Tekken is not easy, just being on offense is not easy. There is a reason Arslan was so consistent, as he was an absolute monster of a defensive player. He could read timing from other players, bait whiffs, and it was beautiful to see imho, his clutch is unmatched. He could do that because Tekken allowed for such freedom of expression.
But now in T8 you just get access to tools that just eliminate the strengths and differences Tekken has as a fighting game over others. Free mixups, tracking throws, +frames for days, moves that just do everything (this was an issue in T7 too, not to the same degree) and just relentless casino bs. You can like that or not, but you cant deny that you have to just eat shit way more in T8 than in previous tekkens.

As someone who's been playing tekken since the very first game, I hold a similar view as you do. I actually like the new mechanics it closes the gap between the more sweaty players and the new entries and that was the desired goal by bandai namco when making tekken 8. I'm not sure if anyone remember but it was mentioned by someone from the company that they wore making the game much more easier to play and it really reflects in many of the new moves added to the game. Many characters who wore difficult to learn has become way easier to pick up.
The whole argument that oh th"is is no longer Tekken" is such a copout argument because every single tekken game the systems wore dramatically altered especially after Tekken 3 each game after that always felt distinctly different from the last so this is nothing new for me I'm always expecting the game to feel different each new entry into the series. It's probably the guys who haven't been around since the beginning who are unable to adapt.
There are hundreds of ways to approach a fight in tekken and any character at the bottom of the tier stack can jump to the top when something new is discovered about that character, I am optimistic about tekken's combat system and I embrace the new players entering.
Ngl I did not particularly like the fact that the competition in tekken was way too stiff with very little room to squeez new players in and when you joined lobbies it's nothing but the same 7 people because online play seemed to be dominated by the top ranking players and there was very little room for newer players. With that being the case how is the community even gonna survive or how is the game gonna be profitable if the player base is very small because the mechanics are too tight? It only makes financial sense that namco would make the game much more approachable for newer players.

EDIT: good afternoon from the West Coast US.
Arslan Ash has a point. As long as both players have Heat, it’s not really Tekken. 3D fighters are known for ALWAYS having an option in any given situation. With that being said, many of the aspects of Heat you have to hold. You don’t have an option other than block or guess. In my opinion, that’s not Tekken.

The exact same thing happened with SF6. It’s dumb to have a strong mechanic be free (Heat mode and Drive Rush) especially when it help to skip neutral. Meanwhile some games have almost the same system but in better like KOF 15 ( it cost 1 ki bar to do the equivalent of the drive impact and 2 ki bars to do the drive Rush equivalent) but no one plays it coz it’s “hard”…

At least the drive system comes with defensive use. Heat is unfortunately just pure aggression coming in a game with already nerfed defensive options.

Tekken Tag and Tag 2 aren't tekken, they are a spin off series of tekken, as you said they are numered for a reason.
They are intentionally something else, tekken 8 is adding into 7 while Tag wants to be another experience different from the normal 1x1 tekken not be the future of the series.

In the back of my mind,I get the feeling that AA is experiencing what other pros have before, their status quo might be up and thats a hard pill to swallow.
Now if he's still winning all these tourneys and such,i guess so. If he loses,he ain't taking it lightly or humbly.

In competitive Tekken 7 there were a lot of boring moments because the counterattack game was broken and people didn't want to expose themselves, it was too defensive. Tekken 8 needs balancing (especially Jun and Devil Jin's Heat) but the game is much more fun for viewers by being more offensive.

Okay fair points during the Feng rant. However you did say "maybe I am carried" and yes it doesn't do anything for the person who is accusing you, but you yourself said, okay then be 3x better than me and you'll beat me. How is it fair that within the same rank somebody has to be 3x your skill to beat you at the same rank? Wouldn't that literally mean you're carried by your character? Also it's very easy to prove the "haters" wrong, simply pick a different character (ofc not Dragunov) and reach the same rank.

I have 100% already gone back to T7, even T7 offline, Treasure battle. Recently I spent maybe 10+ hours or so getting max rank in offline Treasure battle, just to learn a character. I think I'll do that with a few characters. That's a whole game right there. Maybe in a couple years T8 will be better.

I fully agree. As someone who has been playing Tekken since 1995, I used to strongly dislike big changes in Tekken but honestly it's for the best and Tekken 8 is loads of fun. I was playing T5DR the other day and was wishing I could tornado my opponent to extend combos lol. It's also hilarious people are accusing you of tier-whoring when ALL the top pros do it.

I feel like it’s unreasonable to expect Tekkens 8 to be exactly like previous Tekkens. I actually enjoy the more offensive approach. Makes the game more exciting. Most complaints are regarding “broken characters” but i’ve seen people using bottom tier characters in this game whoop others using said “broken characters”. Just learn to adapt bro. Usually it’s just a skill issue with those complaining.

Actually upon seeing the first screenshot of the game before it was released, the health bar, the timer and the heat gauge looks like DOA 6 health bar timer and the power blow bar, Im not surprised with shit happening right now because the director of DOA 6 working on Tekken 8.

Has it finally dawned on you?? Those who are smarter than you even from the CBT shouted that it would be a failure, but you beat your fist in the chest, proving that T8 is a masterpiece. I always said that after the release of the gameplay at the Game Awards, that this was a pure deception compared to the first trailer, and after I saw the heating system, I was not at all sure that this game was worth buying. Personally, after a month of playing I returned to T7
