Oh Baby - Gus Warms Up to the Yard

When we had some unseasonably warm weather earlier this month (Feb 2022), Augustus (or Gus as we like to call him) was able to venture outside for the first time!
He has always been a brave rhino calf and loved to explore inside, so we anticipated the same reaction to being outside, but boy were we were wrong! For those first few days he was hesitant about going outside and would not budge from the inside of the rhino barn, while his mom (Evey) ran outside with gusto and stretched her legs.
The first day he only made it outside once and then quickly ran back inside. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and now he can’t get enough of being outside! He loves to run and climb on the dirt mounds. He even settled in for a nap once in the warm sand as Evey waited nearby, waiting to go back inside.
It just goes to show that even a big, tough rhino can be scared, but with a little time and some bravery, there is a whole new world out there to explore!
