Extra warnings and side comments: - As per my last MIP streaming review, this still exhibits worse performance when you are CPU bound. - You should really only be using this setting if you are maxing out on VRAM without being in a big CPU bind. - As of 8/16/23, BSG has yet to fix an issue with long black screens after raids. Mostly this does not cause you to lose anything after the raid, but it can take a minute after you leave. I will update this comment when it is fixed so you all know (and probably make another video on it). Hope this video helped and thank you so much for watching :D
speaking as a programmer: my guess is that their gameloop task prioritizer manages to trigger mip-loading in offline mode because system load is generally lower, but online there's so much pressure on the gameloop the task for mip-loading doesn't get given a timeslot to run in edit: offline raid also has less gear models and textures loaded in as you don't have all the other PMCs and also less loot than online
2:56 It's using the drive... only if your RAM is full ! Actually it's meant to use as much available RAM as possible, THEN fallback to the swapfile. Example: I have 64Gb of RAM, 48Gb of which is available, I can use a 32Gb Mip buffer, it will use 0 bits of my swap (disk) because all of it can be in my free RAM. Sadly, having it enabled crashes my game on the end of nearly all raids. But with it I could run Streets with high texture quality and only 12Gb of VRAM (otherwise I need low quality or it stutters like hell cause 12Gb of VRAM on yhe 3080ti isn't enough...) Anyway good video as always!
omfg THANKS! for more info. i had a 3GB VRAM 1060 and mip streaming helps me from inconsistent 40-51 to 59fps consistent on Ground Zero (a fast NVME also helps for me). another thanks since i thought the buffer size was based on mb so i was all along using sizes above 16GB
A few wipes ago, I used mip streaming for visibility (no long-range sniping), and let me tell you, it was insane. Because of the trees and bushes that were rendered as a 2d texture, allowing me to see everything in forest areas. I miss that.
As a guy with a shit pc, mip steaming helps a lot with fps, the only problem i encounter and i dont use it because of it is that item icons does load in extremely slow and it does not matter what mip streaming settings i put on.
This is going to be a late reaction/reply to a video that was published 10 months ago but another problem that mip streaming caused was that the item pictures ex.(Guns, junk, meds or any item really) wasn't loading for me. It kept on circling like a youtube video trying to load. I did try everything to solve it from clearing cache to deleting logs or even a integrity check. This was a huge problem as im new to Tarkov and i can't understand what im looking at just by names if i dont see the pictures. When modding a gun with every single part change it started the loading process again which almost took 5 minutes to load. When i turned off mip streaming, it suddenly started to finally load the images. I think it has something to do with eating up your read/write.
5:20 if you setup rivertuner to show your vram amount and usage you'll notice the games "stats window" and rivertuners/msi afterburners "stats" don't match up, the game is showing completely different values to what afterburner see's, i think it's not working correctly because the game thinks you've got plenty of vram but in reality you haven't.
My theory is is that the game is allocating a higher amount than it actually needs, and this can get crazy with cards with a TON of vram. I believe that *allocation*, not actual data, is overflowing to system memory, which would explain why the performance isn't as bad for some people who are "spilling over" VRAM. That's just a theory right now, though, and I want to learn more before officially saying that.
for people who crashes its the game CTD due to not responding or CTD cause lack of paging file. some stutters are also a good sign the storage is dying.
I have a 3050ti and intel i5, and I see effectively no difference in frames between the two. My GPU is consistently maxed out in usage, though. I hope they get to optimizing this, I need the strain off of my GPU lol
Interesting- I didn't think you'd be CPU bound in that scenario, but if you are, that would explain the performance loss. Otherwise, I did notice in the data i collected on the RAM (NOT Vram) usage that RAM usage was slightly higher in the raids I ran with MIP Streaming. Don't quote me on this, but it might have been putting more pressure on your memory or paging file, causing worse performance. Just a theory, though.
Hi! So I was wondering if you could help me a little ! Recently I noticed that a lot of texture and objects "pops" in my screen ! As if it didn’t render properly ! I looked up on Google but there aren’t much info for my problem! Some guys were talking about mip streaming but I have it off ! I have a 3080ti with 12g of vram and 32g of 3200mhz Ram and these texture issues are driving me crazy… any idea ?
My guess is Object LOD Quality. If you have that too low, you will likely see objects and textures gain/lose quality depending on their distance from you. To avoid seeing that, I'd set at least at 3 (though it does have some CPU-bound performance hit, though its quite minor)
@@klemintime1452 Thats what I tought too but I tried changing my LOD distance up to 4 and I still saw some Items pop and even some area of maps (lets say that upon entering Goshan I can see the back store "pop" in game. Idk if its just a dev decision to allow performance or optimizing other area! (Thanks for the answer and for the content btw ! Your graphics settings guides helped a lot !)
@@TheYorgoI think it’s something they did with the update. For example in the back of Oli, I can see through the back doors and it’s outside lol… definitely something on BSGs end
Hi, I have a serious problem this wipe and it’s so weird. I have RTX 3080, i9-9900k 32gb ram system with massive CPU Bottleneck. I have my Tarkov in my SSD I use ISLC + Process Lasso and I use DLDSR on 1.78x 2k res + DLSS Quality in-game and my in-game settings are all lowest expect Texture is High, Sot low texture enabled and postfx enabled with nvcp gamma settings. If I change HBAO and SSD to ultra I have nearly no difference in terms of performance. My problem is, especially in big maps like Sot and Shoreline but usually in Shoreline. When I look to the center of the map my fps drops down to 60-70 fps but if I look towards an edge of the map I get 100-120 fps easily. Normally the fps difference was not like this big. If I get 100-110 fps and I look toward the center of the map it usually drops to 80-85 not 60-70. I’m playing Shoreline for 4 days and I tested everything I can. I turned off in-game postfx completely, changed my HBAO and SSR to off, texture quality to medium. Turned DLSS and DLDSR off and tried with my native 1080p res. Turned Nvcp to default settings(brightness and gamma). But none of these changed anything(I guess? Because it’s too complicated, in Offline Mode I get high fps because no entity beside me is spawned but in Online Mode it depends on lobby size, bosses and amount of scavs so I can’t test these conditions 100% stable and trustable all the time. What spesific videos would you recommend to me? Because I am so frustrated with this issue, my system isn’t even that bad except my cpu but getting 60-70 fps on Shoreline, getting 70-80 on Woods and 70-80 on Customs(all towards to the center of the map) with this system shouldn’t make sense isn’t it? Sorry for the long comment but I hope you see it. You are the only expert that I watch for Tarkov optimization!
I'm sorry that you tested all of that for naught, as the "solution" is not sunshine and rainbows. Simply put, your CPU bottleneck is going in full swing depending on where you are looking on the map. The load on your CPU varies depending on which section of the map you are on and the direction you are looking in it, and thus you get lower FPS when there is increased pressure on your CPU. If anything, lower Object LOD quality may help slightly, but your CPU bottleneck is likely just where it is. If you want to learn more about what settings in Tarkov affect CPU-bound performance, I have a video on it from the last wipe here: ua-cam.com/video/54iSVAtcV38/v-deo.html There will be a video discussing how Process Lasso may help coming out today, but it doesn't carry a lot of hope either. CPU bottlenecks are simply really hard to improve. I hope this didn't sound rude, but I didn't want to lead you in the wrong direction. Thanks for watching man :)
Correct- you can *normally* tell its a CPU bottleneck when your GPU is constantly below ~100% usage, as the CPU is the other part of the render pipeline for games.

Can you please look into the new (old) awaiting session start issue for pmc and scaving, might be related to mip streaming, great vid! ❤
