It's not the end of the world... Beiderbeck accepts his fate to wither away and die. Dr. Phibes just wanted to revive his dead wife and even keep her safe by any means necessary.

Same here. Always wondered about that. Maybe a goddess (or a supernatural entity or a spirit) in the romantic tradition. Definitely she is not human. Her intriguing presence and loyalty adds to the beauty of both Dr Phibes movies.
You could say that this accurately symbolizes Vincent Price's and Robert Quarry's career at American International. You see back in the day, A.I.P. wanted to replace Vincent with Robert in their future horror films. There was a bit of a rivalry but the two stayed professional. Robert did get to play the title character in the Count Yorga films. but alias Vincent has already left his mark and has an everlasting legacy, while Robert was more or less forgotten by the mainstream. Thankfully Robert does have his share of fans who love the Yorga movies, and other horror films he's been in.
There is some truth to this; however, instead of Phibes being represented by Price, more appropriately Phibes "on his way" represents where the movie business went and became after 1972; namely, and by and large, a junk factory, ostensibly run by an anonymous cadaver (a view, as many of you will already know, countless YT movie watchers and commentators routinely concur with.)
Somewhere over the Rainbow is a younger song than the events of the film although I'm not sure we're aiming for historical, or any other type of accuracy here...
While I think the first movie is, as a whole, a better movie (not by a ton), I LOVE this ending as not only an ending to this movie, but the Phibes Saga.
This was a happy ending for me Ma and me. We often would like to say we are going down the river of life and live eternal like Vincent. Well, Ma is now on that river with Dad, brother and Uncle. As for myself , another 30yrs wait will do me.
Absolute classic and there will never ever be anyone else like the great late Vincent Price ......he is immortal !

I love that Dr. Phibes got a good ending, he certainly earned it with all that creativity and craftsmanship.

There was going to be a third movie of Dr Phibes but it never came to be. Nevertheless, Vincent Price was amazing and still is. RIP

Christopher Lee should have been cast as Beiderbeck. He would have played it to perfection.
Phibes might have turned around for him.
Classic horror, classy as it has Vince Price.
