My dad and uncle both had formula 3 600's 1998 and 1999. I think the 1990's were the best times for snowmobiling. Its when all the cool looking big bore sleds came out and the suspension started getting alot better. They just had very good looking sleds back than.

Yup, that sled definitely fits the bill. I'd be proud to own that. I've always been an equal opportunity snowmobile lover. I've probably been a little biased towards Polaris but I've owned Ski Doos, and Arctic Cats too, and I've ridden many Yamahas. The big 4 have made some incredible sleds and I'm over here drooling over them all! Especially the 1990s-2005ish sleds...golden era of snowmobiles!

The best looking best sounding sleds ever made were from the early to mid 90's to 2005...the triples rule in my books and love all brands not loyal to any...I'd have bought that in a heart beat what a find congrats...I'm in the process right now of buying all the big triples and restoring them to original factory specs.

What a killer sled! I'm a polaris guy myself, but I definitely appreciate any well built machine. Reminds me of the crashed show sled I picked up a couple of years ago, i have to straighten the chassis, but they're was just so much work put into the sled and it had paper work of every modification, dating back to '97-'98, that I couldn't pass it up. Your neighbor's going to have a blast with that sled.

With the idle hang like that the pilot jets need to be very closely inspected, cleaned better and/or increased in size. If a 1/4-1/2 turn on the idle screws settles the idle it's a good bet they're to small. The carb boots are notorious for leaking as well. I have a 2000 809, all original un-opened with 8k miles.

Somehow a different motor, different chassis, and different pipes sounds very similar to my 96 MachZ 780. The first time riding a power valve triple changed my life and I just happened to get the 96 with the aggressive timing curve and 156 hp. It was the best $350 I've ever spent in my life. I love all brands of muscle sleds but have a soft spot for my very first sled a 93 Vmax-4 750 even though it's not a triple lol.

Look close with a magnifying glass at the color of the porcelain base (down inside)
If it's white/very light it's too lean,of it's tan about half way it's close. If it's all tan and dark brown,it's rich.
You may be able to get a idle/ off idle/midrange(low end read) but you need to get it out and do some longer pulls.
You'll feel it lay over if it to lean. Check your plugs, check your plugs, check your plugs.

But the 97 Mach Z the more rare sled they were the first to come with the 809 and the first to have the sc-10 suspension same as the 98 Mach Z got and 99 had the sc-10 one too in 2000 the Mach Z had the sc-10-2 suspension but yeah alot more people like the ck3 Mach Z and ck3 stands for compition kicker 3 cause the motor was moved back and sets lower in the chassis for better balance see the 97 Mach Z the motor sets up higher in the bulk head and alot of people said it was front end heavy so that's why alot of people don't like it that's why ski-doo come up with the ck3 chassis even though the DSA or F chassis won more races when it come out but the ck3 also kicks butt in the grass drags too in 800 imp and 1000 pro stock but yeah u got a beautiful sled there and the thing I didn't like about the 98 Mach Z is the middle pipes were jointed they were a pain to get off and ski doo only did it that 1 yr 98 and 99 to 03 they were one peace pipe then they had the joints into the suit case exhaust as they call it but yeah my 2000 Mach Z come with 3 triple chrome heat sheild pipes and 3 chrome fat stingers but quiet ones

Todd I've watched this video probably 20 times he may need bigger carbs for that engine, it's idles way to high , it takes way too long to drop down so he definitely needs to be careful on how hard he winds that sled up
