Respect to Novation answering questions on here.
Hi goldmoogle,
The Mininova has everything available from the keyboard. Pressing the Menu button allows you to get deeper into the parameters.
A computer is not needed to reach everything in the Minivova, but the Editor makes it more convenient from within your DAW.
Hi Ninja,
Mininova can be used with just power supply and a pair of headphones. Connecting it to a computer gives you access to the Librarian and Editor software.
If you have further questions please email Novation Support.
Hi MorgMau5,
Sound wise, it has the same engine as Ultranova, Mininova's big brother. It comes loaded with Lead, Pad, Bass, Arp patches to inspire you, and hitting the Animate buttons can radically alter these on-the-fly.
Possibilities are huge. You can program sounds directly from the keyboard or using a computer and the Mininova Editor get even more creative. Then load the finished patches into the keyboard via the included Librarian software.
It looks awesome in blue! ;)
literally just bought one of these guys yesterday and i love it so far
Yes you can connect speakers directly to the unit.
Hi Adrian,
Although Mininova doesn't have battery support you can use a rechargeable battery (used for charging mobiles and tablets) connected via USB.
Hi,
The MiniNova's sound editor is controllable from the face of the unit itself, making it easier to edit on the fly. It also uses the MiniNova Librarian to store and edit patches.
I like the tiny table you guys made him work on.
I love how you encouraged the guy to actually check for himself and don't just engage in blind advertising speech like "absolutely it is perfect for beginners beep boop marketing robot awaaay".
I'm gonna have to buy more stuff from you guys.
Je découvre Harry Coade ici avec cette démo ... c'est une des meilleurs démonstration pour un synthé que j'ai entendu depuis longtemps... excellent !!
Novation makes awesome demostrations. I love it
If I may, you can midi control the DAW using a dedicated controller or synthesizer with midi out controls (Yes, the mininova has these midi out controls). You can also use a sampler to do this also which will give you hands on control with the loops while being able to slice and play part parts of the original sample without destroying the sample or breaking it into smaller parts.
I would love if you guys created a HOW-TO video on creating stuff like this!
With your fingers. Use ur brain.
Hi,
You can set the arpeggiator to any BPM you want using the Tempo Knob in the Arpeggiator Section of the MiniNova. The display screen will tell you what BPM you are set to as well.
I borrowed this synth for a couple of days, and it was a lot of fun. I could only figure out how to use it as a hardware synth, not a MIDI controller or VST, so the output was line level audio and then I had to plug that into an audio interface/mixer/looper/amp to make use of it. The fact that it is so easy to switch presets and apply a wide range of effects is a huge positive compared to clicking around in a DAW with a bunch of plugins to try to get these sounds.
It's great to hear that you enjoyed Bass Station II! To use Bass Station II as a MIDI controller, you just need to connect it to your Mac or PC via USB. Bass Station II can't be used as a plug-in instrument, although we have previously created a plug-in emulation of Bass Station: novationmusic.com/bass-station
@@NovationTV This video is about the MiniNova, not the Bass Station.
Many apologies! MiniNova can indeed be edited using its VST plug-in. If you get a chance to borrow it again and want help setting that up, give us a shout. Bass Station II is cool too, you should check that out 😉😅
That reply was brilliant
I use this synth a lot in my songs. I just love it!
Hi NickAtheRollson,
The Mininova is a full synth. It has loads of presets that you can manipulate.
It is more similar to Ultranova than Impluse, but it doesn't have an audio interface built in.
If you need the audio interface built in to the X-Station, the Ultranova would be more suitable.
Any questions please email Novation Tech Support.
You could plug the Mininova outputs in to your Hifi AUX or CD in.
Alternatively, if you have powered monitor speakers you can connect directly to these.
Got mine yesterday; love it.
Knobs feel solid, I really like the Matrix switch on the top right of the unit, and the keys are WAYYYY better than the MikroKorg and MikroKontrol (which I sold!). Two days with it and I haven't touched the VST editor.. and I don't plan on doing so, since the menus are easy.
Hi,
What you're describing is the Vocoder, and yes, that comes built into the MiniNova. There are many different Vocoder effects built in, so get in there and experiment!
I saw this synth at the guitar center and I was impressed just by the price and it's ability. this commercial on the other hand, is making me not want to buy it. lol
Yes the backbeat just overwhelms the synth sounds.
I LITERALLY SAID THE SAME THING BEFORE READING THIS COMMENT😂😂😂. Glad to feel like I'm not trolling.
Hi there,
The MiniNova is a very powerful and versatile Synth. It is used in all types of music. Not only does it have the sounds that you hear on this video, but it has some great Pads, Synth Strings, and Hypnotic Arpeggiators.
Vielen vielen Dank für den Klanggenuss und das gute Vorführen.
This depends on what you are trying to achieve. Since you can connect both the Mininova and Launchpad via USB the rest of your setup is up to your preference.
Still makes me smile everytime I watch it haha love synth!!
It does, if you look carefully at 20secs in with the screen maximised you can see the cables running under the bench round to the laptop ;) It's just been tidied out of the way for the video so it doesn't look like a cluttered mess!
Hi,
You can plug an external instrument into the back of the MiniNova to take advantage of it's processing. And the MiniNova is great for all types of music, including Dubstep.
Features:
Powerful mini synthesizer with the sound engine of the UltraNova
16-character LCD display
37-key keyboard with MIDI I / O
3x oscillators, 1 noise generator , 2x ring modulators
15 filter types
Arpeggiator with 33 pattern
Up to 18x polyphony , monotimbral
256 factory sounds
Up to five effects per patch: distortion, compressor, chorus / phase, delay, reverb, Gator, EQ
SOLD! SOLD SOLD SOLD!!!! I'M GETTING THIS FOR OPEN MIC! SO EXCITED
Awesome! We'd love to hear how it works out for you.
Hi thekeyps,
It is Scarlett 2i4. You can see more information on the Focusrite website.
Ca aussi c'est vraiment du talent, parce qu’il faut enregistrer des sons, les synthétisé avec un ordi et les attribuer a des touches d'un synthétiseurs et bien se rappeler de l'ordre des touches.
I own a X-station 25 if you have any questions, keep in mind the actual synth mode of the X-station is an implementation of the KS series.
got my mininova today! now time for alot of practacing!
Wow! Quite impressive sound. Twist of the Filter wheel into the D&B breaks is like JAW dRoP bomb! . . ^_^
That's a hard comparison tbh.
The Roland is a more expensive interface, but in turn you get the extra S/PDIF stereo in/out, MIDI in/out and more physical controls compared to the Focusrite.
If you're not gonna use those, and just need the basic 2 in 2 out and headphones, i'd choose the Focusrite.
If however the MIDI, S/PDIF and physical switches will brighten your day, i'd say the Roland. So it's all about what you need from it.
Hope that helps.
BEAUTIFUL, THIS THING IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
omg that was amazing! if only it were longerrrrr!
So much love.
That thing has some great sound.
I refuse to believe that this synth made ANY of those sounds.
It sounds sooooooooo sick!!!
Looks like a microkorg in a blue casing.. Especially because of the style selector knobs..
I have this. its sitting on my desk right now. I put music on my speakers and mix it in with this!
I'm thinking that I am gonna buy it ITS AWESOME
got it and I'm looking forward to explore the sounds
Hi Scott... Yes they are!
No. I'm asking for tips on how to USE the device...
Hi,
Many users not only like the MiniNova's sound, but it's ease of use as well. Check one out at your local music store to see firsthand.
I love vocoder!
this is dope, I can't wait to get my own.
Hi earbully,
Mininova should start appearing in stores early October.
I have a supernova. Love that machine. It sounds so smooth and fat for a digital synth.
simple amazing ....
Hi,
We have all kinds of artists using the MiniNova across many different genres, so I would definitely recommend checking one out at your local music store to see if it's a good fit for you.
The output of the Mininova is running into the Scarlet 2i4 soundcard, which then run's into Ableton live and back out of the Scarlet 2i4 main outs
Whoa, HUGE BASEMENT
Superb stuff!
You can disable the led of pitch and mod wheels. Remains the led of pads (when you are not using the arpeggiator) and the display.
they were. the sound engine is a highly improved version of the legendary supernova rack synth from 2000.
I highly recommend you get the Mininova over the microkorg. It replaced my microkorg in my setup i'm extremely happy with it!
Hi DennisLOL,
You can either power the Mininova by USB or with a 'wall-wart' psu rated at 9volt, 300mA DC regulated and positive tip.
Hi,
The MiniNova doesn't work as an Audio Interface the way the UltraNova does, so you would still need to have an interface to your computer. You can plug external instruments into it though to take advantage of the built in processing.
MUST OWN THAT THING!
Looks like the Focusrite Scarlet 2i2. Fairly new model, very popular due to the preamps being much better than the price would usually indicate.
Hi,
You can use the mininova as a midi controller with your DAW.
these musical certainly has a effect.
Hi jf4196,
Mininova does not have built-in speakers. You will need to connect it to some form of monitoring.
Yes this unit can be used as a midi controller
Hi Max Phoenix,
Mininova does not send audio via USB. You need to connect the main outputs to the inputs of your audio interface.
If you need assistance please email support from our website.
just bought one so keen
Dear Novation,
Get this guy on the UltraNova, same setup (Ableton and a Launchpad), so we can see what *that* can really do. So far, I'd be leaning towards this one if I had to pick, though what I really want is one with this one's simplicity and 'quick-launch' keys (the number keys) with percussion pads/sequencer built in.
I was JUST about to get a Microkorg XL. Now I have to wait for reviews.
I have this got it for Christmas
microKorg all over again. Wish they'd demo some synth-rock fusion or deep ambience. Techno dance grooves bring such ennui . . . and have been done to death like hearing "Feelings" on the radio.
Very nice sound!!!
such a slick video!!! Might have to get me one of these!
Hi NovationTV! Cool demo! :-)
Great synth decided to mess about with it all sounds part from the drum track on my song on my profile were done on the mini nova really happy with it and vocal tune is fantastic! keep the good work up! only thing i've got negative to say about it is i hate the colour blue! ahah
amazing....
fantastic!!!
can i ease as a midi keyboard with pro tools ?
Amazing!
Warm and tingly is all i can say.xx mmm gadgets!!!
You could, but it doesn't have the Loopback function of the 8i6 which makes sampling very easy.
Massive sounds!
Hi thekeyps,
I would recommend the Scarlett 8i6. It has a 'Loop Back' function that will let you record Mininova, or any source from Scarlett Mix Control back into Maschine for sampling.
Hi Jack,
The Ultranova has an audio interface built in. With this you just need a USB from the Ultranova and Launchpad to your computer.
With the Mininova you will need an external audio interface, like the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 used in the video.. If you need help with this please email Tech Support.
Novation TV
This is so much better than the Ultranova demo was.
Awesome!!
Hi madar128,
You can use the Forte to connect Mininova. If you have further questions please contact Novation Technical Support via the Support page on our website.
Hi Damir,
Mininova needs to be connected via an audio interface, unlike it's big brother, Ultranova.
You still connect to the computer with USB for all Midi duties.
Yes, they are the core of my point. 4 knobs handling a max of 24 parameters, 8 of which must be found and selected with the same single knob that handles (by my estimate, i haven't counted) more than 200 parameters.
Had those 4 knobs been used for deeper editing, it'd a much better proposition. And it's fully workable with very few changes, there's plenty of examples here of around.
This has a very detailed synth-engine, and 1 knob is just too fiddly. Ofc i don't expect a full Ultranova, but...
that is so cool
Thanks, I really like what I heard in the video, but I'm terrible at using computers to program synths. I'll be sure get one as soon as I can.
cool demo vid!
Wonder what the price difference is between this and the MicroKorg, they seem anyway like comparable products
thnks for the reply.it will help a lots!
Actually, he's using Ableton with a Launchpad, which does all of that stuff. This basically works like a looper with 8 channels and 8 phrases per channel. Lots of prep involved, sure, but from experience the clip-launching method of live looping is way easier to pull off than using a loop pedal.
amazing
