- The Giant Hummingbird or Colibrí Gigante or Picaflor Gigante (Patagona gigas) is the biggest bird ever of the hummingbird species. This bird weighs in at 18-24 g (0.63-0.85 oz) and has a wingspan of approximately 21.5 cm (8.5 in) and length of 23 cm (9.1 in). Its territory is widespread through both sides of the Andes Mountains from southern Colombia down to Argentina and Chile. This slow motion video was filmed in Peru in Ollantaytambo and at Ensifera Camp in Urubamba.

I saw a huge hummingbird today - I live in Prescott Arizona. He/she was too far away to get a good look but it was huge! We had a serious storm the day before this sighting. Wondering if it was blown off course? July 12, 2021. I would love to know more.

Jim, the colorful one is a Lesser Violetear and the little plainer one is a female White-bellied Woodstar.

The Giant Hummingbird has recently been split into two species, after 15 years of study. The scientific name of the newly separated species is to be (Patagona chaski), chaski from an indigenous word, and the English name is to be the Southern Giant Hummingbird. It has been found to be a migratory species, in the breeding season. The number of different species of Hummingbirds continues to grow!
What's the blue hummingbird next to him/her? That hummingbird was fairly large as well.
That looks like it could be a Sparkling Violetear. And yes good eye, that species is a medium/large variety of hummingbird.
I live in Bolivia, I saw one in the wild, just like 6 feet away from me, it sounded like a big drone or a helicopter far away
I spent time in Bolivia in 2006-7 and swear I saw one of these - I had no idea they existed at the time, all I saw was a hummingbird the size of a jay and couldn't believe my eyes! Looking back, it was probably one of these giant hummingbirds.
They just determined there are 2 separate species of the giant hummingbird. One is non migratory and lives in the Peruvian Andes year round. The other lives in Chile and migrates to Peru, to the same habitat as the non migratory species.

Kniphofia, also called tritoma, red hot poker, torch lily, or poker plant, is a genus of perennial flowering plants in the family Asphodelaceae. The little red flowers I don't know.
Was this footage slowed? If so, how much?
Video says the wing beat is as slow as 15 per second and I count about 2 per second in the video, so it's slowed by about 8x
