    The Druid has one more thing about it that I like. Anything on their body shape-shifts with them. Meaning that the party can steal highly valuable items and just hide them on the Druids person. Have the Druid shape-shift into a dog and no body will find them.

    You are pretty spot on with many of the lower classes only getting + stuff vs. way to change the story in their favor. I would love a DW 2.0. Thanks for doing the stuff that you do for our entertainment.

    If you all want to know my list... Just invert the order he presented lmao.
    It is easy to tell stories about badass warrior and put your own spin on it with the "lower ranked" classes where the classes with higher complexity moves tend to force you into a specific type of story unless you go in with some "reflavor everything" bats
    My issue with Bard is how hard Arcane Art gets punished in the fiction if you fail a roll because a lot of the hard GM moves tend to be BIG and it can punish you for wanting to do a small thing to heal in the fiction. Spellcasting has hard limitations on its failure state and thus it tends to be less punishing to fail a healing spell than an arcane art despite A-A healing less. Multiclass also lets you twist the mechanics in order to get the exact character you want... It just also is broken in half in Dungeon World's current implementation of it
    I basically agree with your assessment of wizards, thematically they should be masters magics but a lot of their advanced moves kind of disappoint me on delivering on that concept. I like their knowledge moves of how it just nudges the party to not being stuck, but I feel like a lot of the stuff they are doing is super specific. I feel a lot of wizard's power comes from the exact spells you prepared which just kinda feels odd to me in a rules lite system... I feel like spells should have been MORE abstracted and you take feats to be able to do different kinds of things with spells.
    I also don't really like turn undead's design in most games. I like the PF2 approach of being a healer lets you damage undead easily by throwing out haymaker spells so you are more dangerous to undead even without specially named abilities. Cleric Dungeon World feels like what I'd expect from a cleric... I'd just want casting to be reworked as I mentioned earlier.
    Rangers to me feel like Fighter but with nature restrictions on its moves to be able to take nature moves... Except fighter could also take the nature moves via multiclass... I actually do really like the core design of Ranger in D-World as when fighting alongside your companion you can go toe to toe with the big bad martials but as you level your connection with the wild grows... I just tend to not like rangers that much as a personal preference thing. I really like how Ranger has martial moves that participate in the fiction!
    I really don't like Dungeon World druid as I never really know what is "OK" to go for as a druid or GM and I feel like I am needing to have a power level discussion every time they use their core ability... It also has the mechanics and the fiction be at odds all the time. "You are a giant tiger and Hack and Slash into that guy... But mechanics say no matter what you use you deal 1d6 damage... But you get 1d8 in animal form **as an advanced move** so you still do half of what the fighter does" which idk feels bad to me. Druid has some of the best utility moves in the game but ehhhh I really don't like how often it has fiction and mechanics be SUPER against each other
    "A lot of people don't like the thief" 🙋‍♂I think it is fine for a very specific type of rogue character or thief and I would probably really love it if it did not spend so much of its mechanical footprint on how good you are at poisoning people... Feels like a missed opportunity to have more TYPES of rogues as everything is forced into poison. There is *more* to the thief but at that point I can also argue fighter has more things than their special weapon... If there was a RAW way to remove the poison for other things I would probably have thief as my top 1/2 favorite class.
    ========
    All in all I disagree with most of your takes (but you knew that Austin), still massively respect it
    Just felt like I have opinions as well and I can make them public by being a reply guy in your comments section

    • @tabletopbro
      @tabletopbro  Рік тому +1

      He gets mentioned twice in the video and responds with all these L's 😂
      You HAVE to put your own spin on Fighter cause it's so vanilla (I actually really like this aspect as fighters tend to be interesting and not just stereotypes)
      Bard bad L + ratio
      Absolute W on your wizard take.
      Absolute W on your Turn Undead take.
      Absolute Draw on your Ranger takes. Rangers have always been just granola fighters and as someone who wants to be more granola I support and endorse that.
      This is actually a solid nuanced take on the druid and definitely an example of Dungeon World being dated.
      Poison is but one of many ways you can spec your thief L + ratio take :p

    I agree with last two places, these classes aren't bad for experienced dungeonworlders though.
    Recently I picked a fighter class - Halfling with a giant smoking pipe used as a signature weapon - it has following tags: brutal, forceful and "reach" range. When leveling up, I skip all the moves giving boring bonuses. He uses the ash from the smoking pipe as a smokescreen and attacks by doing powerful 180+ degree swings, throwing enemies and their weapons away and destroying everything. It's awesome.

    Hey there Its been a while since I engaged with Dungeon World stuff and I appreciate your perspective, But I am also a DM who's first TTRPG was DW in 2014 so I am going to put my big ol opinion.
    Druid as 2nd best as written in base DW with no changes, surely you must be joking
    I have been player and DM for many games and while I can rely on almost every playbook (except Immolator) to be solid to work with and give fair treatment to, The druid is the most schizophrenic and wildly difficult one to work with. Then there becomes that time to actually figure out what the druid's shapeshift hold actually allows. Part of this is that DW does not have units of time baked in for things like duration so the hold mechanic is needed to justify a limit to their shapeshifting... but for what?
    Is it basic moves being done as the animal? only special moves? do you have to roll stats to do these moves or just spend hold? Is flying swimming climbing etc. a move?
    While there is a super super brief list of suggested ideas for moves, I honestly don't know anybody who uses it and not consistently.
    Look at Wizard and Cleric, they got supernatural nonsense, but the tie to level and clear explanations means you dont have to worry about sleep becoming useless GM to GM, why couldn't the Druid have some level of structure like this. And this isn't a nitpick about one move this is the special talent the Druid brings, it makes me want to like them for things like underwater adventuring or other great adaptations to dangers... but I just get a giant question mark instead.
    And if you want to talk about moves that only give plusses, Druid has to spend two moves to get d8 and d10 damage, something that could just be instantly outclassed by simply existing as a capable fighter.
    And Shed, completely negate damage moves are probably the most loathsome things in DW to me as a DM, sometimes I'm cool like Armor Mastery requiring the armor to be permanently damged, Paladin Bloody Aegis is honestly not great to me, I wish the GM decided the debility not the player, but shed is my most despised move of druid... because you et 1 hold even on a 6-... which means any shapeshift according to shed can negate all damage...you just got to reuse your infinite shapeshift... I hate it with a passion.
    I agree with you that it may be controversial but I don't hold you against it for preferring narrative over scaling, rather I find it the most frustrating despite it's potential
    Love the video makes me very nostalgic about the great games I had for 8 years. BTW if Immolator was on the list absolutely below Druid in my rankings
