It's no big deal to remove the coolant reservoir again. To make it bright white, and like new clean- fill it 1/4 way with HOT water, 2 teaspoons laundry or DISHWASHER MACHINE detergent (not hand dishwasher soap) and 1/4 cup baking soda. Put a kitchen sponge, or better a steel wool SOS soap pad inside. Wear gloves, plug the hose with a bolt. Shake the container at least 30 minutes. Drain, refill with mixture again, shake again. For stubborn corners- use a small dowel handle (broom?) to work pad into corner. Make sure to thoroughly rinse with HOT water. Scrub the outside clean. Use a Sharpie permanent marker, red or black, carefully mark the indicator lines (FULL/LOW) so easy to see.
I’ll have to try that. I tried to use super clean on mine and it cleaned up some but still has a brown/tan tint and some residual stuck on gunk left inside.
VERY GOOD! Old coolant causes electrolysis, it will EAT the inside of your motor / cooling system. Always makes me happy to see someone doing it right. After sitting that long you may want to use a flush and do it again. Additionally, use a 50/50 of coolant and deionized water.
Bleach and just let set. But biggest thing is flush flush flush then replace Heater core radiator. Probably water pump. Yes all hose's to prevent any junk in the cooling system.
Adding some nuts and washers in a solution of soap/water and shaking would have cleaned the coolant reservoir a little better. Flushing was a good time to replace the heater core and T-stat on such an old car. Not a bad car for it's age, keep at it and you'll get it right!
Brotha. I love your videos. I realize your busy. But would it be ok to see a video on the irocs ignition switch. The one that's on the steering column. I'm at a loss and im having trouble figuring it out. Love your videos
Thanks for watching, James! Sadly, I usually don't do vids of repairs unless it is broken. So unless the IROC's ignition brakes, I probably won't be able to make the video. I hope you will be able to fix.
