I really like the concept, but at this point wouldn't it make better sense to go to a single rotor? This has all the complexity but x4 - and without the efficiency. The belt drive system is cool, I remember when HPI came out with their belt drive AWD - I bought a Rally version that year.
I knew you were going to do that. just was waiting to see it in real action. Now we can all look forward to huge variable pitch Quads that can lift bigger cams, and fly for 2 hours or so :D great work as always :)
What I like, maybe Curtis will touch base on this,it appears to be much quieter with the larger heli type blades. We found a way around pollution, now with the larger blades we can reduce noise too.Cool!!!!
Awesome. VP props is the only way quads will go big as the rotor inertia of the bigger props will kill the response time needed for quad flight. VP takes that out of the equation. Nicely done.
I am working on building similar desighn but I don't wnt to use belts I am gonna use custom shafts like they do in helis that way there will look cleaner and they will take thy bounce!! great job!
So when do we see the first single seat,4 rotor quad? A Jobi electric motor,a ballistic chute.Aluminum pod, single seat, joystick.fly by wire ,4 rotors above the pilot.I'm guessing within 10 years, farmers, others will be using them for low altitude work, rescue etc
When I first saw the Stingray 500 in action, I thought it would be the perfect proven design platform for a IC version. With the high energy density of liquid fuel we will be able to get extreme flight durations and distances. For search and rescue, surveillance, etc.. Thanks for the inspiration.
Outstanding work!!! Well, the next step is a two passenger version. Use the same engine in a Robinson r22 helicopter! Human flight with a gyro stabilized quad is the future! Let's make it happen!
me thinks, an aero company will build areal world manned aircraft from this concept. It's too novel to ignore. a personal vtol aircraft. yo the man Sir.
It would be interesting to see if you can configure it for a long flight time. Find that sweet spot for rotor speed, collective pitch angle, how many batteries you load on it, and the voltage/motor combination :D
that is sooo awesome! The first time I saw your stingray, I wondered why it wasn't a gas powered engine.. Great work! My first concern is that its large size must make it more fragile?
hmm i am sure CJ YB will soon release the stingray with a little nitro engine like .15 :D Bore :D that would be awesome. I was planning to get an stingray. now i have to wait and see when nitro powered will be released
Great Job Curtis Such an innovator. Having the nitro model just shows you can go any route you want with this. Is this going to be the next rave-q-450. I love it.
That is awesome! I asked if this could be done about 3 years ago and was told it would not yaw because all the rotors would be spinning the same speed. I thought it would but didn't pursue it. Glad to see it works though! Fantastic looking big quad. How long will it stay aloft? All the best and Happy flying!
you need a ball turret camera in the center of the body that and flip orientation as the quad does. I think there are 3d printable gimbals that will do the job cheaply. You should consider copying the rotor design of the v22 osprey, that tri rotor is very fast and efficient, I believe it could be 3d printed, and rotor parts 3d sandcasted through shape ways.
No one noticed how much quieter it is? reduced rotor speed? pitch control, belt drive? single gas engine or electric motor. A Full size would be very quiet and would allow a ballistic chute
I know you like the single motor approach as it really harks back to the roots of helicopter design, but please consider the direction that they went with the XV 15 having two turbines at the wing tips and for inspiration look at this picture www.456fis.org/X-VEHICLES/AMERIC24.gif The picture shows the X 19 a quad with tilt rotor it has a central radial engine similar to the layout of your quadcopter. By the time they got to the v22 they have moved to more than one power plant for redundancy, and were using Allison Gas Turbines from standard helicopters.
yeah, electric is the way to go for this application, nitro is less agile and you will have the smoke in the way, plus imagine a dead stick, how well will that go?
***** I like electric, its the future, there's no going back.Flight times are already up to a hour in some applications. In the near future, solar cells will be improved,we could apply the solar cells as a wrap,a thin membrane. And even fuel cells that generate electric power, that would allow flight times of any range.
make this a hybrid, put there a smaller nitro motor that will hover at say 75% power and a small electric motor/generator on the same shaft after the clutch. Add handful of electronics and there you have it: 60+mins flight & reliability and power of an electric.
Nice quad, but I don't like the shape of the frame, give it a nice shape cool looking attractive aero dynamic frame.i assume this is a prototype only, good luck with your project.
Using a nitro motor opens up the possibility of using quads for more rescue and military operations where electricity can sometimes be a rare and valuable commodity. Also you can not always rely on a powersource as fragile as a Lipo battery, they need a lot of care and attention that rescue and military personnel don't have time for.
Have you ever tried to fly an electric heli or Quad in freezing weather? your lipos will simply give you half the flight time on those freezing winter days. These nitro power or gasoline engine powered Quads will make sure to still offer you longest and more reliable flight times during winter and all weather. now we just need to water proof electronics and even fly in Raining weather. because in raining your Electric motors and Speed controllers will give up, while Gasoline engine will still run and your variable pitch mechanism will still smile and work during rain. lots of application for gas engines on quads. CYB is doing great work as always.
Awesome!
That thing is a beast!
vaya tela de invento
For all of your "flight time" woes.
guessing the quadcopter revolution is not quite over yet.
I really like the concept, but at this point wouldn't it make better sense to go to a single rotor? This has all the complexity but x4 - and without the efficiency.

love the sound she makes, the beast is very agile in the air
I knew you were going to do that. just was waiting to see it in real action. Now we can all look forward to huge variable pitch Quads that can lift bigger cams, and fly for 2 hours or so :D great work as always :)
oh man i've been wating for sumthing like this too..just needs a good 2t motor to get the nice sound..No nitro for me thnx
Absolutely amazing. You are a pioneer in this industry Curtis.
That thing is absolutely huge.. Truly awesome
thats what she said :D
Great platform, much more environment friendly with the large rotor blades.I like the idea of both gas and electric options.
Great work, I knew someone would eventually figure out the IC quads. It looks much better than other prototypes I've seen.
Dude, this is so damn sweet! This needs to be in movies! Like it!!
What I like, maybe Curtis will touch base on this,it appears to be much quieter with the larger heli type blades. We found a way around pollution, now with the larger blades we can reduce noise too.Cool!!!!
Geiles teil. Wird zeit das sowas aufm Markt kommt
That's some crazy shit right there... James Bond stuff for sure.
What a weapon!! Love the sound. Awesome.
Awesome. VP props is the only way quads will go big as the rotor inertia of the bigger props will kill the response time needed for quad flight. VP takes that out of the equation. Nicely done.
Makes my Ladybird look a tad tame :) Great vid and truely awesome prototype, guys like this really make it happen, lovin' this
simply incredible.
I new there would be a bigger one before long. Looking good Curtis!
~R~
I am working on building similar desighn but I don't wnt to use belts I am gonna use custom shafts like they do in helis that way there will look cleaner and they will take thy bounce!! great job!
The fuel powered version looked heavy in flight. Both are still cool!
Well done Mr Youngblood i have one big wish i want to fly like you do your a God of RC
Wow that is just pure Awesomeness CJ Youngblood Enterprises Inc

WOW! That is amazing...I want one so bad

Great concept and video!
What do you think the flight time of this would be?
All I can say is awesome!
I really like the sound of the electric one. Much better than the propeller MC's
damn cooool great work
Great Job Curtis Such an innovator. Having the nitro model just shows you can go any route you want with this. Is this going to be the next rave-q-450. I love it.
Amazing. Makes me wonder how large a quad would need to be to run something like the O.S. 37.
This is really cool
What kind of flight time are you getting on the both the electric and IC model? Looks really cool!
Which of the two hold-up more time flying ?
and how long ?
Thank you
That thing is freak n awesome.. wooo. Gas too
nitro thank you .very nice
espectacular!!!!
Exactly how much does this thing suck to set up? I hate setting up a single-rotor collective pitch heli :)
Love it!
Looks like a flying bedframe :)
Sweet you used my idea to make a nitro 3d quad! Still login my stingray. Thanks
So cool!
Did you ever test the load carrying capacity of the 2 stroke version?
What kind of flight controller are you using? Is it custom or something off the shelf?
Oh yea man sweet!
Thats one coooool quadcopter.give more likes

Сильно!
Mother of god
incredible. how is yaw induced? is the military interested yet?
They feel they did that already www.456fis.org/X-VEHICLES/AMERIC24.gif
Crazy!
somehow the behavior remember the chinook! very cool
OMG, my neighbor's window frame is flying :)
GREAT!
Been seeing this thing touted for years as a gas or nitro powered quadcopter, but he's never put it on the market in any capacity. Wondering why?

You should consider copying the rotor design of the v22 osprey, that tri rotor is very fast and efficient, I believe it could be 3d printed, and rotor parts 3d sandcasted through shape ways.
OK now do one with sets of 800m blades please!
Nice!
No one noticed how much quieter it is? reduced rotor speed? pitch control, belt drive? single gas engine or electric motor. A Full size would be very quiet and would allow a ballistic chute
that is cool!!
this is a must have!
great *lol*
Sold where do I send the check!!!
Dose any one remember the wooden clothes horse from the 60s :)
Top job!!
Nice!
:)

WOW!
is it easy to control it ?
what firmware you are using ?
It is possible to make a very big one with a moto engine and seat for me ? ahah...flyingCar ..
I think it's just question of time now .

nice
That is tight (nice) :). When can I get mines :) electric of course :).
Be blessed
When can I have a ride
OK, so... make a UFO and fly it already!!! :D
Long range FPV written all over it!
yeah if it wouldnt smoke all over cameralense haha
ha pretend its clouds
So... will we see a quad with direct drive turbine?
havanissa Yes !!!! with a single seat, the rotors above you. Both hobby and ultralight versions.
I want to build a human sized version to fly in.
make this a hybrid, put there a smaller nitro motor that will hover at say 75% power and a small electric motor/generator on the same shaft after the clutch. Add handful of electronics and there you have it: 60+mins flight & reliability and power of an electric.
A nitro quad! This must be a world 1st?
Nice quad, but I don't like the shape of the frame, give it a nice shape cool looking attractive aero dynamic frame.i assume this is a prototype only, good luck with your project.
Great job! But I think its best if you stick to electric motors. Electric flight is the future!
lot of different applications for this type of power, electrics are cool but this has endurance, and payload written all over it, Awesome!!!
Using a nitro motor opens up the possibility of using quads for more rescue and military operations where electricity can sometimes be a rare and valuable commodity. Also you can not always rely on a powersource as fragile as a Lipo battery, they need a lot of care and attention that rescue and military personnel don't have time for.

crazy :-D but fantastic !
*Jaw Drops*
AWESOME!
