- The HUD in War Thunder is full of important information. The mini-map, the status of your tank, enemy markers, scouted vehicles, hit markers, ammo count and of course the x-ray cam.
So, what happens when you take that all away by playing War Thunder with NO HUD?!

I think you should try to play the challenge with an american or british Tank so you can understand what the crew is saying. Then it would be easier for you to tell if anything on the enemy tank got damaged.

I turned the HUD off by accident a while back when playing on Normandy (on the shoreline overlook no less). I learned super quick to listen to the shouts of the crew for certain things, and more than once shot dead vehicles 2-3 more times. It was equal parts terrifying and satisfying. Then I figured out which key turned the HUD back on and discovered my team had completely evaporated around me.
That's a beautiful story
Of course even with hud your teammates got disintegrated 😂
I'd love an RB move where you have all the normal RB stuff but no HUD. 3rd person, down the barrel scope, but you can't tell who's an enemy and who's a friend. No blue on blue though.
imagine if Gaijin adds in the future a mini HUD , it would be cool
it would be cool if in sim the modern jets would get like a hud to look around and stuff and you wouldnt get the hud alr in the game
people wouldnt look at the map at all in that case. Now at least they have it in their periferial vision and there is a 1 in 100 chance they are going to react :D

With this no HUD challenge, it goes to show it's wise to memorize what the crew on your vehicle say when you score a kill. That way, you are sure to know if you damaged an enemy or destroyed one.

I'm a Brit main (4.0-5.3 ger pays for my 7.3 games). So I only have 130 kills out of 46 deaths (AB) but when I hear "Germany suffers" unironically. I just point to that thing and say "learn it". if you learn to angle, adjust, know your weakness etc. You can come out a game with whatever caps and easily 5+ kills... tiger fear exists in this game. So, use it to your advantage imo. People say not to rush but it can work in your favour, like everything... pick the time.
One major thing People forget is, just because you're angled at someone, feeling invincible eating whatever. That doesn't mean you're 360° invincible, as someone will be able to pop you. So keep that situational awareness up.

A couple years ago i tried this same thing but back then gaijin had the cross hair/ mill dots on the gunner sight set up as a hud element so if you turned your hud off, you also turned off your gunners sight so it was just the vignette around the edge of the screen. so at least now this is even feasable lol
this looks like how i would expect realistic to play, and hella fun. Not quite sim, but pretty real. theres way too much info in realistic IMO
Kill cams are the worst. If you find a good spot, you'll get bombed or flanked by 2-3 kills.
@@BaNaNaCeZeT Stupid thing is that even in Simulator battles kill cam is present. This thing ruins all "simulatoriness"
@@M65V19 yes, shows kill cam, but doesnt show where the guy shot you from.. just shows where your tank was hit and why it killed your tank

I wish Gaijin would just release a module with a proper mission editor, so we can actually make WW2 scenarios with proper objectives, limitations (like no HUD, body in the tank kind of thing), unit compositions, single or multiplayer etc. Like, actual realism. Not 'fantasy capture the circle and throw away my plane, fight every nation all at once, never ending grind and unlocks'. They are just such a lazy developer. This video just reminded me how every tank has a magical Blue Force Tracker, kill feeds are incredibly immersion breaking, all aircraft have F35 style 'see through the cockpit targeting', unrealistic tank and aircraft sights, the list goes on and on. The fact that all the core components of a really good WW2 tank sim are there just makes it all the more painful.

My experience on that Br is that nearly every panther is a lvl100 player with bushes on it.
And if you kill a player he instantly retaliates with CAS
Whenever I kill a USA tank there's a 50% chance CAS is coming, to the point I always bring a fighter along.
@@reinbeers5322 Well, US is pretty meh compared to german tanks on that Tiger I / II BR. CAS is what makes US strong... It's annoying but thats what it is... against Ger its worse though tbh. You MUST flank in US tanks because they are horribly undergunned and underarmored... so it's even more annoying to instantly get revenge killed by CAS
@@stefanknauer7180 I played the M64 recently and the 76mm is a really good gun against german armor. There were very few times where I had an issue penetrating them, so I can't agree on the US being undergunned.

@@stefanknauer7180 "Chinese" tank - an M42 Duster hull with the M18 Hellcat turret. The 76mm is a great gun.

This was a really cool video, was quite impressive to watch, and well, more surprising - no hud is definitely intense.
Super fun to watch you be more challenged and lean on all your experience to still crush it. Definitely more of this pls. I've always thought the game should really be sim controls and display, with rb mechanics, on arcade maps. You should add in the stock gunner offset effect next time, rather than boresighted. That plus cockpit viewpoint really shows off some of the real world developments in vehicles, like the advantage of bubble canopy, or tanks with the gunner sights on the same horizontal plane as the barrel.
This challenge might make high tier games much more intriguing also.
Its funny because i understand what the german crew is saying. Crew:" This shell had no impact on the tank. " Odd: "I think i hit him. "

I really liked this challenge it made the game feel far more realistic and it was pretty cool to see you play with a disadvantage compared to the other players your up against. It sucks the flying aspect didnt work for you but your still insanely good against players that have a hud. Great video odd.

Back this has to be one of your best videos ever! It shows more of how you play possibly more than most of your tutorials.
Realistic should be more like this in general. Less info, less player markers, more actually playing with visual senses of the battle. They have really improved in thar as of late I must say.
You don't need to go hudless in the air but you should do this way more often. Or you can remove a lot in settings to limit what you see.
You were adapting pretty quickly, bit it was cool seeing you think on your feet and problem solve.

Sim battles with extra steps and higher difficulty
Even simulator battles have a HUD I'm pretty sure, so this is even better

One step up would be using the true gunner sights, going from barrel View to a offset while playing multiple different tanks can get tricky to pull of pinpoint shots that we are used to.
Awesome video. It shows just how immersive the game can be if you choose to. Its kinda like Sim but with less disadvantages like team killing because of misidentifications.
Id definitely enjoy seeing a no HUD game again. That was entertaining. Probably going to give this challenge a go myself.

This is the first video I've watched of yours that gave me anxiety. Great video. But, as a bushmaster myself, I took offense to your comment lol. I need the bushes on some of my tanks because I kinda suck and that extra split second sometimes helps. Sometimes. Love the video as always. I don't comment often but I do view all. Keep up the great work. Hope to run into you on the battlefield one day, hopefully on the same team.
Next step would be using the proper gunner sight position and downloading historical reticles, there's ones for the Tigers for instance that mimic the circular ranging design of their IRL telescopic sight. I unironically play that way (though with the HUD on still), it's neat for multiple reasons.

I hope you do more like this. Skill seems to matter more than any other factor. Kinda sucks that you can't properly fly without the hud on though.

This is the actual newcomer experience. Repairs? Mini map? Switch ammo? What's that? What's that buzzing noise? Why am I on fire?
The Swedish player replaced the original player (who apparently couldn't join) in the last match, thus Sweden isn't listed as an allied Nation in the scoreboard.
I think the most impressive thing about all of this is how he can play WT with Australia's internet

Yesterday (about 2 hours ago, it's 0.48 rn) I faced one of the best tiger players I've ever seen. He actually angled the hull so my D-5T couldn't penetrate it and wiggled the turret so I also couldn't hit the gun very easily.

Hey bawz, I’ve noticed that the light reflections on your tank look very good (17:09). That’s because you play with rtx right? I’m playing almost on max and don’t seem to have the effect. Also thanks for the video, that’s a pretty cool idea, I’ll try it out myself in sim with a custom sight.
I think there are an awful lot more folks that either don't play with HUD or actively ignore it than your might think...

As a German main I will say the minimap is not important if you get flanked it’s obviously the teams fault for not covering you
That's how everyone should play the game. Give folks a hell of alot better feel for how things were.
i miss the old layout Simulator battles used to have. no kill feed, no penetration camra or any other aids. i remember when you needed the parts mod just to repair tracks. if ou lost a track you were stuck there.
My friend got me to play ground arcade for the first time (pretty much ever) and omg!!!!
The Tiger 1 and IS-1 are BUSTED in arcade In a few hours I got like four 15 kill games with no deaths, It was so much fun, just rampaging through the enemy team.
(I would recommend odd should make a video on arcade, it was incredible.)
Fascinating. Spare a thought for actual tank crews in combat IRL. Archival images of real tanks destroyed in combat often reveal many more hits than the kill-shot. That's because there was not always a reliable indicator the tango was down, and tanks kept firing until, perhaps the target brewed up or crew were seen egressing. No convenient 'TARGET DESTROYED' in the scope. Guessing use of the MG would not have helped either as the indicator the target was live would normally appear in the HUD too.
Hi Oddz, some friendly advice- playing without a minimap and HUD totally sucks 😀. Sometimes it’s happened to me mid game and it makes gameplay really really hard. Credit for even trying this and as usual you are still awesome!

This was great. I will say that there are real tankers who put camo on their tanks, especially in WW2. I know you probably know that, but you and I can agree to disagree on whether bushes are OK in game or not. Love your content.

So, game 3 is explicable: The only guy on your team playing Sweden, disconnected. So, the team list does not show Sweden as a played country, BUT the bot is a Swedish Strv. (Which showed up on the team list. :) )
