WOW!!! This is the "BEST" live rendition of Israelite I've heard. Incredibly, the man got better as he got older. R.I.P. my Brother Desmond... One Love. And thanks for posting this Adaarneoc
It has everything instrumentally as the studio version recorded in 1968, including the Farfisa Combo organ sound. Gordon "Innerheart" Mulrain on his 5 string electric bass, covers the bass line perfectly, too!
Actually, Desmond Dekker's "The Israelites" is a ska tune. Ska gave birth to reggae, and not vice versa. Though the two are often confused, it was a decade before the ska bluebeat was slowed to a reggae pace.
My "exact" sentiments. Every time I heard it, it was either too fast, or different from how I remembered it. This is the best, close-to-the-original version I've ever seen.
No doubt, Desmond Deckker and The Aces, Miller Small, The Pioneers, Jimmy Cliff, Dave and Ansils Collins, Johnny Nash, Bob and Marica, Nicky Thomas, The Meloadians, the Maytals, John Holt, Slim Smith, Delroy Wilson, Derrick Morgan, Owen Gray, Wilfred Edward aka jacke Edwards Prince Buster, Skatilities , Boris Gardener happenings, the upsetters, Harry J all-star, and may more that paved the way to break Jamaican musica culture to the world for others to follow like the wailers , third world band, Inner circle, Dennis Brown, Errol Dunkley, Sly and Robbie, THE BLACKSTONES
Get up in morning, slaving for bread sir so that every mouth can be fed, poor me, The Israelites My wife and my kids are packed up and they leave me darling said I was yours to receive poor me, The Israelite shirt them a tear up, trousers are gone I dont want to end up like bonny and clyde poor me The Israelite after a storm there must be a calm they catch me in the farm. you sound the alarm poor me The Israelite poor me, The Israelite I wonder who Im working for I look a-down and out, sir
I have travel a several times in Holland and Belgium as the agent / tourmanager. Desmond was a realy frindely and shy man. Ik was good to work with him Joop van Summeren Seventh Heaven Productions.
Desmond Dekker was going to preform at Summerjam 1006, and I was looking so much forward to see him, but he died some months before the festival :(:(:( that was sad....
Thanks for posting, I also like the faster tempo versions I've seen posted, but I agree with migca, this is the best tempo, very similar to the original recording.

omg what a voice and what a legend ;) he could sing thru a towel ... or if i was his backup singer ... he would still sound fantastic ;) how do we tolerate this crap they thro out 2day ? ;( .......
What's up with the guy with the clock face doing the churn at 0:45 ? AND he's in the band? Random. Maybe one of the aces was in a fire and got horribly disfigured hence the white suit, gloves, and clock mask.
So let's use your example of two things we create, and we prefer one above the other. That does not make us hate the other one. I have never read the bible, but i know it says that we were created after gods image. So i'm alittle confused. But, you are free to believe what you want, if that makes you happy. Just one question, do you think everyone but the Israelites should die ?
I am swedish so my grammar is not that big a deal. A thing i find kind of funny though is that when you tell me it's just a misspelling you make another misspelling ;)
Reggnem, read teh bible, and tell me who the lord is NOT dealing with, and quote me the verse which says what one must do what needs to be done , to be there with the lord. i know ill be there, i wonder about you. but thats between you and him
Alright then, i also know the story behind the song. But don't you think, that not just the israelites are the lords chosen people ? I mean, do all the songs about unity mean nothing ? I dont want to say your wrong, because i don't know everything. It's just strange to presume that god only has the israelites as his chosen people ? No offense by the way.
Hey its a misspelling, when your grammar is correct, tehn correct mine. its called a bible. i figured you would be able to figure that out. maybe i was wrong?. lol
@dertel "The Bible makes it all clear..." &c Yes, drtel, we all know about the Great Commission, & how u feel u gotta spread that Good News (& it's not that we don't appreciate yr looking out for us) but y'know what? We don't all come uninvited & play secular music in yr church on Sundays. So maybe u cld show just a bit o respect, & not come preaching in our music threads? Lotsa great gospel / religion threads here; this isn’t 1 of them. Or is The Way, The Truth, & The Life also Teh Rude?
actually in jesus time there was judea and palestine. christ was crucified at galgotha. also read in the boble, tell me what it says about judgin other people. ( a person that is)
Actually Jesus was essentially a middle eastern looking type person. not a continental african. god hates no one. Reggnem, red the book, or quote me a verse, where it says otehrwise. and aveteran, no need to be talkin down on the bible, specially if youre wantin people to be humane, good, err non racist etc. if you can talk down on the religious, can reggnem be a bigot? err racist, err whatnot?. meh lol im done
We were lucky to have Desmond Dekker from the beginning.....
This song gets better every time I hear it
Desmond Dekker was one of the best performing artiste. He was a real ruff neck on the mike singing so sweetly. Gone too soon!

This is really a bass line with a song in front of it!
Big up to all the real Israelites around the world who endured the curses and fulfilled the prophesies of Deuteronomy 28. More Blessings.

i've never read the "boble" what is it? who wrote it?

Doctor Gonzo Feelgood
...maybe it was different each time depending on what he was on at the time
@litleelly
closer explanation? or a link to read at? thanks
And your point is what, what are you trying to accomplish?
ey, everyone "translates" the bible how they want to, that means that you can not walk around here and state facts about the bible...
@jamaicanforeva HAHAHA well spotted man lmao =)
