  • Official audio for Desmond Dekker & the Aces' 1969 smash, 'It Miek'
A follow-up to the UK Number One, 'Israelites', 'It Miek' first saw issue as 'A It Mek’, a Dekker-penned original song that had been inspired by the antics of a rowdy younger sister.
The original version, produced by legendary Beverley's Records boss, Leslie Kong, was deemed by the BBC to be ‘too raw’ for radio play, so was remixed by noted sound engineer, Graeme Goodall, who also overdubbed horns, giving the track a polished feel.
The result was another significant UK hit for Desmond and the Aces, with the single breaching the pop listings in June before peaking at Number 7 on 22 July 1969.

    IT MIEK LYRICS
Written by Desmond Dacres & Leslie Kong
You think I never see you when you jump over the wall
You think I never see you when you accidentally fall
Me said, ah it mek, make you pop your bitter gall
Ah it mek, while you accidently fall
Ah it mek, hear she crying for ice water
    Ah, ah, ah
    Hey hey
I check you out and you're cool, girl
I dig you out and you're cool, girl
    Rock it to me children
I told you once and I told you twice
Sweet nanny goat a go run him belly good
Me said, ah it mek, make you pop your bitter gall
Ah it mek, while you accidently fall
Ah it mek, hear she crying for ice water
    Ah, ah, ah

Desmond Dekker had a singing style strictly his own. There has never been another Desmond Dekker after him too.He originated and no-one dared to imitate!

I heard Desmond Dekker during the Two tone era 79/80,no diversity in the town where I grew up, but we had a great record shop that was like a library for the ears! Still buying music to this day! Happy times

"Israelites" (1968) ... the teenage girls next door played it almost every Sunday morning, while I was still in my bed, about 11 years old.

When black and white guys just got on with life. I knew so many white people that loved reggae from the 60s & 70s. None of this race dividing crap back then. RIP DD.
