Musical instruments used are like those of the combination of Billy Vaughn and His Oschestra, and Lawrence Welk and His Orchestra. I love ❤️❤️❤️ these three maestros: David Carroll, Billy Vaughn, and Lawrence Welk re their style, tempo, modernity, and expertise.

I'm not a big fan of David Carroll's music but his records on Mercury always sounded so good. Can't beat that late 1950s stereo/hi-fi recording sound. Separation is pristine. Low tones where needed, sharper sounds as required. Recordings today don't sound this good. Yes, these are the best analog recordings I've ever heard. If I was a Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley I'd sign with Mercury and demand these engineers for my songs.

Part of the "secret sauce" is the studio facilities that Mercury used. Most of their classical work was done by the legendary Bob Fine (Fine Sound/Fine Recording) of NYC. Bill Putnam in Chicago ran a studio called Universal Recording, eventually heading west. I'm sure that there were facilities in Los Angeles Mercury used for sessions there. (help me out, UA-camrers) What I am trying to say is that Mercury wasn't tied down to using a particular location as they did not seem to own any...they just rented the studios they required for the project at hand.

@@WPM_in_ATL - Great information William, thank you.
I was just a kid then so this music really wasn't to my liking but I listened to it every day because that sound they created was so appealing & impressive.
With all the technology & advancements -- I don't hear that kind of engineering today in recorded sound.
I liked quad when it was on a good system, I was impressed with Beta Hi-Fi & its ambient qualities -- but none of these incredible systems lasted long.
Some of today's music doesn't even deserve that kind of treatment.
But I guess I'll have to buy more of those records by reading who engineered it & what studio it was done in.
      Thanks again.

John: I looked up more information about this album. The cover shown here indicates it was a re-release (standard copy). If you look on Flea Bay, you will find original release copies of the album with the same title, but from the Mercury "PPS' series. That was Mercury's answer to the Command releases of that period. From the copious liner notes of the original gatefold release, I was able to discern it was recorded in Chicago at Universal. This makes sense as I understand Mr. Carroll had a full time job with Mercury at their HQ in Chicago.

@@WPM_in_ATL - Great information. I admire the sound of those records & yes, Command was also a label (mostly jazz I think) that had great reproduction. I have one 45 on Command by Dick Hyman -- The Topless Dancers of Corfu -- an early synthesizer track. Excellent.
But those David Carroll albums -- just exquisite recordings with stereo separation that's still impressive today. If I were a recording artist I would have sought those guys out.

@@lastrada52 I have had the pleasure of meeting Dick Hyman on three occasions (concerts/recitals) in the last 15 years. A wonderful experience. I also recall seeing him perform in the eighties at the Carnegie Recital Hall in NYC (part of the Carnegie Hall complex)-he performed Jelly Roll Morton's "Fingerbreaker" and I walked back onto West 57th Street stunned (how could one man play the piano like two?).
