  • Code of the Clans, a monumental book in many fan’s heads even if they can’t remember the details of what content this book contains. Despite that, the stories in here are mostly entertaining in a wide variety of ways, and the book as a whole may have more intrigue in it than first meets the eye.
    Thank you to my Patrons for picking out the moment to draw for this episode: Whitestorm training the original arc apprentices in border patrolling. It is a really adorable moment.

    The books always mention elders telling stories to kits, but we never get to hear any of them. So I always imagined that they were telling the stories in this book. Timeline weirdness aside

      To be fair if these stories were spread by word of mouth the accuracy would be lost over time

      The reject the life of a kittypet rule may be the only fully accurate elder story because some elders in the first 2 arcs were alive when Pinestar left.

      Currently, nobody’s alive, but goldenflower was an apprentice then and she was an elder who made it to the lake territories.

    I wish Raincloud showed up again - I found the ending to her story kind of haunting when I was young, and with TBC questioning the "a leader's word is law" rule and eventually changing it entirely, it would've been a good time to bring her back. It's funny how both of the stories dedicated to that code seem to explore why it's a bad idea.

    Badgerfang's story hits hard when you first read it, and it sticks with you. When I finally thought I was over it, they showed it all over again in Blackstar's novella and broke my heart all over again :'D
    As for when each code comes into law, maybe the timeline isn't in chronological order? As in, maybe the first code was not the first code created? It's simply just a set of rules for them to follow

    • @darkninjafirefox
      @darkninjafirefox 5 місяців тому +4

      I'll give that Windclan cat a pass as Badgerfang should have never been fighting in the first place, and they were attacking their camp/raiding patrols

    • @Anamizuki
      @Anamizuki 5 місяців тому +3

      @@darkninjafirefox I mean, if it was JUST that, sure. But there is so much killing going on even in situations that don't require it.
      More importantly, there is never any sort of push to repay the wronged clan, leaving things very raw.

      @@Anamizuki Kind of late, but Badgerfang was only three moons if I'm remembering correctly. Even a well aimed cut at his muzzle could be enough to cause bloodloss in a cat that small against claws so big compared to him.

    • @Anamizuki
      @Anamizuki 13 днів тому

      @@CreatureCreations- But that's the thing, if the attacker saw that a literal child was fighting, I don't think they'd waste time with him.
      The 'death in battle' thing assumes other clans randomly forget their morals.
      And even if the death was in the heat of battle, then by the code Wind Clan should have gone "Hey, Shadow Clan! You are breaking the warrior code with your child soldiers!" at the next Gathering.
      If killing a fellow warrior is forbidden, then there should be some consequences for the killer. Right now only the wronged clan suffers. Unless a main character kills.

    I loved Code of the Clans for all the hidden information shown. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that before this time, the only way to see the Warrior code was to read it on the very shifty-back-then Warriors website. As well as some background characters being fleshed out, and I especially liked the chapter where Longtail eats prey and Poppydawn dies, and Longtail believes if he didn't eat prey she would've survived. What was your favourite story in the book?

    I wish we got to see more of the clans' shared folklore, legends, etc. I'm fascinated by the idea of events from the past being distorted and exaggerated to tell a better story, the way legends are. It's an aspect of clan culture that doesn't get the attention I think it deserves.

    I dunno why I was fixated on a small mistake, but you said Splashtail on code 3 and I did a double take. I thought they just reused the name Splashtail on accident, like how there are three Milkfurs, all related. But Splashtail in code of the clans is supposed to be Splashheart, not Splashtail. It's alright, mistakes like that happen as the prefix "Splash" matches a major character from the newest arc, so I can see where the confusion comes up. I always get Moth Flight and Mothwing mixed up.

    • @HiHi-lt1cb

      I thought this too lol I just thought it was a different Splashtail because Warriors always repeats names (Larkwing, Frecklewish, Sparrowpelt/tail, etc.)

    You know, by the time I got to Sandstorm's passage, I realized something. Before Firestar joined the clans, before all these rules were put in place, the clans still had a long way to go from escaping the savagery and violence they had in the beginning before Starclan was invented. This wasn't just a book about clan history. It was essentially telling the story of the warrior clans' progress, how through signs and circumstances, Starclan eventually them to become the noble cats they are today who live by honor and stability. And Firestar, being the chosen one, was the culmination of all that the warrior code stood for and brought it front in center before all of the clans. Just think, without Firestar, the clans may not have learned to truly appreciate what the warrior code means. They might not have come together to stop Bloodclan, find their new territory, or even face the Dark Forest. And Code 16, which hadn't been part of the code at this time, would ultimately cement this change.

    I think what we have in this book is simply a response to the mini contradictions with in the main series and all this supplementary stuff. Victoria Holmes never struck me, as being all that bright, I saw her in an interview and honestly she was special. So given that she put a very modern cat to tell these tales of how the cold came to be is an after effect. And I do believe that they did not go back and read the prophecies, began, or any of the other books for that matter before they wrote this particular guide. So in at times, it does seem like it doesn’t make sense, I think they’re going with a collection rather than an actual fact Depiction of history and how the code became generationally locked into these cats mines.
