When it comes to new teachers, principals and administrators are looking individuals who can be molded over the years. When it comes to interviews, please remember to dress on a modest or conservative side and be mindful of body art. Silence electronic devices and speak with confidence and a tone that shows that you are willing to learn and collaborate. You have offered amazing tips. Thanks for your presentation and enjoy your week.
This was so helpful! I'm finishing up my student teaching now and I'm about to jump into this process. Also, I love your bulletin board!!! 😍
So great! Thank you so much! I love how you used the questions! In Massachusetts you need a masters degree within five years. I’m a special ed teacher and this was all still super relevant!
Remember to be yourself! I got my current job because I was honest about being new at the position they were offering but that I was ready to try. I also talked about my cats, so I set myself apart by being myself. A lot of admin want a person who fits the school culture as well as the subject position!
This Came at the right time! I am currently looking for a teaching job in California!
This video came at just the right time :) I am graduating in June and start my 10 week student teaching in less than 2 weeks. I am in the process of getting all my ducks in a row to begin hiring when job postings are up. Thank you for the tips :)
I am in school for teaching right now, and we have this program where you can earn your bachelors, credential, and a masters in 5 years but some recommend against it because sometimes a school doesn’t want to pay someone more as a new hire and might take someone with the bachelors instead.
I love this video. I remember the days of serving on interview committees when candidate selection was competitive. Nowadays though (in my state) teaching jobs are going unfilled, even at the biggest, best paid districts. Some SPEd jobs get 0 applicants. ZERO. Warm body without a criminal record? You're hired. Don't need a pertinent degree or even a license. For the most part, districts here can only retain teachers who are single, in debt, etc. and financially unable to walk away.
This is great! I would add, within CA, even this process and "struggle" varies! Central CA is in a shortage and I had a very different experience. I I am sure this is similar for other states as well. You are great for sharing this information with aspiring teachers!
lol when someone walked in on you. That's why I could never film at work, there are people in and out of my room all of the time. lol
As a teacher who is just finishing up her first year, I remember the interview process being so stressful. When you mentioned sample lessons I cringed. I had to do one and it was horrible. This video definitely would have been very helpful last year! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.
Love your videos! I just interviewed to switch to MS History from MS English and got the job! Yay!!!
Is it possible that you could do a video on mock lessons (how to prepare, what to expect, what does and doesn’t work)
Thank you for this video! :)
That bulletin board! 😍 My word! Can we get some details on how to do that?
I think if you’re applying to a position at a private school or a smaller school then it might be okay to physically take in your resume/cover letter. I did this once for a private school and got a really great teaching job but I doubt this would have worked for a public school.
Hi I am in California as well. I got my multiple teaching credential in 2012. I tried looking for a job for 3 years but was not able to find a full time job. For part of that time I had some part time teaching jobs. Finally I had to take a full time job outside of teaching. My credential expired and I was told that it was possible to find a job and extend my credential. I miss working with kids. If you were in my shoes what would you do? And do you have any advice for getting back into teaching? Thank you!
Yes, hire me please!
At what point in the summer should you start getting worried? People being hired 3 days before school worries me!
I just finished my cert program and I'm applying for middle and high school positions. My question is, I have been a preschool teacher for the last 8 years at a private preschool (not accredited). Should I specify that my classroom experience is primarily early ed or just focus on the skills I have from my preschool job?
This kind of piggy backs off the question if we should get a master degree.. What are your thoughts on doing the Masters in Teaching + credential program from UCI or UCR vs doing just a credential ?
If I get a teaching license in Colorado, can I get a license in CA? I am going for my Master's in Secondary Education in Social Studies. If I get an English endorsement in addition to this, will it transfer over to another state?
Almost nothing transfers into CA unfortunately :(
@@toocoolformiddleschoolblog Thank you!
I'm finishing school soon and I'm planning on becoming a paraprofessional, would I be able to use a letter of recommendation from my Aunt who is a teacher and has been one for years?
Sharon Follmer usually letters cannot be from family members
@@toocoolformiddleschoolblog okay, thank you!
Are you finishing high school?
@Michelle No, I have my Associate's in ECE and am currently getting my Bachelor's
This is great to prepare for finding jobs. I will be doing so very soon so this has made me think a lot more about the process involved... I was wondering though .. is it possible to take these California exams in other states if I want to transfer into California? Or do all the certification exams have to be done in California?
Wow we teach the same subjects 🙈
