Motorcycles don't kill people, people kill motorcycles. Please help stop bike abuse. If you see an innocent motorcycle being abused, call your local PETM office and report it. Representatives will arrive shortly afterwards and rescue the poor motorcycle. Signs of abuse: bouncing it off the rev limiter at every opportunity, excessive burnouts, any amount of underglow, any amount of chrome plated parts, stretched swingarm (except for purpose-built drag bikes), any spikes (bolts, bar ends, etc.), excessively large chicken strips (any amount more than 1/n inches from the edge of the tire where n=years of motorcycle experience), neglect (use of shinko tires, sprockets don't have teeth anymore, chain missing rollers, engine sounds like a diesel) and *the biggest sign of all,* the rider is a general asshat. Please join the effort to end the suffering. We at PETM, and more importantly the abused motorcycles, need *your* help to ensure that *no* motorcycle has to suffer in the hands of an asshat. Thank you. This message was brought to you by the _People for the Ethical Treatment of Motorcycles._
Your channel is so badass and this video is another gem. I live across the country but I think one day I'll fly out and come learn in person :) Rally on, kind sir!
For me... RWD, MT, and cable throttle are necessary/primary requirements for "fun". Secondary requirements include hydraulic powersteering, high-revving NA engine, and IRS.
You just explained the central logic to how I've been buying cars for years, though hadn't realized it until now. Keep the amazing videos coming Wyatt and crew and I'll hopefully get to pull return trip to rally school later this year. For now one of my "life cars" needs my attention and $.
In the past I've always counted the number of wheels to tell if I'm on a motorcycle but I like this approach much better by just gauging at how much fun it is.
Then a RX7 would be about a 10 on the fun scale, but way up there in the danger zone if you aren't careful... and if ease of control isn't a factor I bet an mr2 is automatically a daily, but if you fix the suspension and put good tires on it it turns into a life car indeed. and so far that's my plan!
Uou are do right. My '02 MR2-S was one of my favorite cars, really an 8 to 9 on the fun scale and a 4 on the cost scale. No maintenance except it ate Yokohamas. Great mileage. Reliable. If it had a freaking trunk I might have it still.
FYI, The Dodge Challenger is a much better rental car than the Camaro and the Mustang. Talking of course about the cheaper ones now, R/T, SS and GT. 1: It uses the same tire size all around, just rotate the wheels and continue the fun for free. 2: When the rear tires goes completely bold, a new pair is about $300 cheaper than for the Camaro. 3: They all have exhaust butterfly valves, so when you delete some mufflers, it's still fairly quiet on idle the day you return it. 4: It's got the smoothest suspension, really comes in handy after some hang time. 5: You will blend in anywhere. Just tell the cops you just saw another one taking off in a hurry. Please don't ask me or Hertz how I know.
As a motorcyclist I died of laughter when you said it's motorcycles. And I knew the drawback was "safety". Isn't amazing how nothing is perfect? We always try but you can't ever achieve the perfection you're looking for or if you come close, it never lasts!
I enjoyed this “lite” topic... it made so much sense with such simple concepts. At this time, my ‘07 S2000 with only 36k miles is definitively in the “Life Car” zone being affordable, reliable and super fun for the 5 or 6 times a year it gets driven at a track day. My ‘06 Mini Cooper S currently sits square within the “Fun Zone”, inexpensive to buy and if you are willing to work on it rather than taking it to a BMW shop, also affordable to maintain... and it drives and sounds fantastic with its supercharger and go kart handling. It has become my daily driver! Saludos
Good choices. S2000 is like a miata, but much better. Individual throttle bodies are to die for. Mini supercharged is a super lively little car. If I had to do life car, it's an e46 sedan without a sunroof and with an m3 engine and components. Only thing that makes me sad is the e46 m3 engine wasn't aluminum block and that makes the car ever so slightly nose heavy.
I've watched the original video a long time ago and while watching this one I kept seeing references to the original and smiled through the whole video haha
in VT I'd say its a 5 speed subaru with snow tires in a very large snowy parking lot hahaha! Doesn't need to be turbo but if you happen to bolt on a huge supercharger to it, that adds mad fun points!
Thats why all my cars are under 2 grand, i rather have 3 totally different cars and motorcycles than one expensive car that i have to handle with care. So i basically drive all them like rentals (accept the Porsche) , just drove my civic sr thru a forest today an wish it had a skid plate :D never tell a lowered civic she is not a rally car
I completely agree with your statement on motorcycles! Funnest vehicles out there, and stupid cheap! I had a motorbike I bought for $4k that was as fast/faster than $50k Mustangs etc. Great vehicles!
Enjoyed this video, but I was hoping you'd have some examples of where different cars lie on this scale. Obviously it's subject and the cost can depend on how well it was taken care of, but I feel like there are clear examples of cars that you could put on this chart.
can you guys do a video on how those fancy sequential gear boxes are shifted? I always thought they were all automated with the paddle shifters, but now I'm seeing that throttle input matters. is there no Rev match needed for downshifting? the downshifting is what's getting me.
Wyatt Knox (why it knocks) is the best name for a instructional car driver / whatever you do like a weather mans name but for a car guys haha is that your real name though or am ijust way too stoned this morning ??
Good point on the life car lol....I managed to haggle a 2005 wrx with a EJ208 JDM swap for less than 4k. I had to pull the engine and rebuild for head gaskets. I'm over 8k miles into the rebuild now and I have the Cobb tuning software to tune it myself. It already had several mods, mishimoto radiator, air oil separator, ECBS, Cobb intake, aftermarket downpipe, gutted up-pipe, accessport that I use Cobb software with, etc. I paid a higher tax value than I bought the car to register it. But that car is my keeper..... there are mods not listed, and I just snagged parts from a friend's modded 2008 for 500 bucks. Including a header that has been installed, 1100 FIC injectors and larger turbo that I have not put in yet. (Still tinkering on base tune to flash when I put parts in) But yea, the woman hates the car, if your lady hates the car, then it's obvious it's sticking around a while.... lol (I will mention, at rebuild time I could not afford a machine shop.....I surfaced heads and deck with 400 grit sandpaper, a sanding block, and oil..... checking constantly with a straight edge and feeler gauges.... so far with over 8k miles and a couple of 23 psi overboost moments from the stock turbo. The gasket job I did has held.... lol
I agree. My 240 is stock ride height and it clears almost everything on the road and it's pretty good in the dirt too! It just needs a skid plate and diff cover and I would be comfortable on dirt roads. I actually get asked if it's lifted pretty frequently, which I think is funny.
For me, my daily is a supercharged pontiac grand prix. Its got a few leaks and itll only cost me 100 dollars to fix it and it's decently fast. For me that car is a 7 on the fun scale and a 5 or 6 on cost scale. Once I put a manual in I will never have to worry about breaking it it'll be my life car
Me: Takes 2016 Mini Cooper JCW in for service Shop: Offers 2020 E-Mini courtesy car Me: Nah, I'll walk. And I did, I walked, it took me 5 hours to get home but I didn't care, I was just glad I stuck to my morals.
For me my 2K5 RSX Type S (with A-Spec) I'd place it at between a Daily Driver and Life Car (got it new). ;-) The RSX shown in the video I'd call a "Scalloped" RSX because of the cutouts for head and tail lights in the bumpers (I had a 2K2 RSX Type S).
I say on the low cost number 10 on the fun scale would be one-time wonders. You know the cars that you bought for dirt cheap but don't care to do maintenance at all to them and just thrash them, but who knows.
BMW with 3liter diesel engine. ~220hp + can be easily tuned to 250-300hp, cheap to drive, good daily drive. Comes in different models - from 5 series sedan, to 3 series coupe.
Funnest, cheapest cars I ever had? 1984 Tercel 4x4 wagon.. not much for power, but good handling, and you learned to carry speed through corners 1985 Rx7 streetport 12A.. Lots of power, not much traction on gravel = FUN 1978 Corolla with streetport 12A, cage and welded diff.. super light, bloody hairy to drive = FUN Currently, it's a 1994 Dodge diesel dually 4x4.. Whole other animal, 500 hp and 1000 ft lbs still makes a 7500 lb beast rather entertaining..
So, I somehow ended up on a track day at Big Willow, WSIR with my manual sedan Ford Fiesta. It was really only fun entering turn one, and turn nine on the brakes just enough to keep the momentum to be able to floor the throttle through the apex, and track out the the white line. While braking into turn nine with my left foot, the car was wobbling out to the entry white line as the rear drums locked up every lap and the ASM kicked in activating the ABS just before mashing the throttle before clipping the apex and using the pit entry for extra room. That was fun, just keep that wheel turned in especially while sideways in FWDs!
2011 Kia Sportage 2.0T AWD ! Bought it CHEAP in 2015 and quickly realized it was a SLEEPER. Well, who is going to expect anything from a Kia pulled up next to them ;) NO JOKE! They NURFED the engine down after 2013 because it was way too fast for the clients they marketed to. Just an Idea, recommended 87 octane regular gas. 260HP / 269 Torque accelerating 0-60in 6.2 (Kia rated) or 0-60 in 5.9 based on tests by Consumer Reports.
With old cheap and fun cars you have the random generator on for this chart.Mostly if you are in the under 4 economy (fuck the system and the crisis). Every day is in an another place, wake up go for a drive smile in your face, next day wake up go for work nothing working properly etc. Peugeot 106 xsi for the win, 25 years old, 900euros ,850 kg and the best fwd feeling ive ever experienced you are so involved every time driving it, sweat and smiles like having sex with that low profile girl that in the bed she becomes a sex bomb and you are like wtf is happening here. And the next day you wake up and find out she is an old lady with back problems and refuses to move xaxaxa (25 years for a car with no money to spend, not so good).

The fastest cars on the planet... rental cars!
any car can be fast if your going downhill!
Parents' cars
Yeah, I watched that Top Gear episode too!
The absolute fastest is someone else's rental car...
Team O'Neil Rally School
This comment made me laugh out loud, that rarely happens.
I love it, but you forgot the parents' cars. 0 cost, 10 fun
until your parents take the cost out of your hide in blood and tears lol
Haha. There are more ways to measure cost than money, my friend.
dpends on the car
Hell yeah 75hp station wagon. It's surprisingly more fun than it sounds.
This is the hot and crazy matrix for petrol heads
Yessir!!👍👍
So glad I read down a little before posting this haha

"anything below that is a motorcycle" so watch out when buying a car...you dont want to accidentally end up with one oft those
"I thought you were going to get a 4 wheels, what did you end up with a two wheels?"
"Weight reduction bro."
Or if your car is named Tiffany.
Glad someone else caught it
did you figure it out yet?
Your channel is so badass and this video is another gem. I live across the country but I think one day I'll fly out and come learn in person :) Rally on, kind sir!
you should make a list of affordable Fun Cars to start rallying with together with tables of average maintance costs.
For me... RWD, MT, and cable throttle are necessary/primary requirements for "fun".
Secondary requirements include hydraulic powersteering, high-revving NA engine, and IRS.
I love this haha. The last minute or so of this is gold!

agree with some saying... the fastest cars are the rentals

motorcycles can kill you, so do the trees during rally cross

Mk1.5 MR2 is easily the bottom right corner. Just above rental cars.
Uou are do right. My '02 MR2-S was one of my favorite cars, really an 8 to 9 on the fun scale and a 4 on the cost scale. No maintenance except it ate Yokohamas. Great mileage. Reliable. If it had a freaking trunk I might have it still.

Moped car with 3 wheels

Just started the video, cant wait to hear the words White NA Miata. ;-)
James Annis miata life bro
miata is the one

Where do beaters go? They're a lot of fun and not a lot of money.
You absolutely NAILED this! And BTW, I think my crappy old E36 with a turbo is in the motorcycle range. But it took my 5 months to build it.
Very good technical chart. Do you happen to have copies of this spread sheet?? LOL GREAT video and time well spent guys
This video is hilarious! Nice work
I own a motorcycle and rent cars when i need them. Watching this video was the first time I felt like i'm doing it right
Lol rental cars and motorcycles hahaha
in VT I'd say its a 5 speed subaru with snow tires in a very large snowy parking lot hahaha! Doesn't need to be turbo but if you happen to bolt on a huge supercharger to it, that adds mad fun points!
I have a 96 2d impreza 1.8 that was free but has some issues like soft suspension, weird issue of the rear half of drive shaft out, and rough past
Thats why all my cars are under 2 grand, i rather have 3 totally different cars and motorcycles than one expensive car that i have to handle with care. To downshift you let off throttle, push the shifter toward the lower gear and hit the throttle.

Zx3 manual focus
Slow but eats corners. Find one with the stock 16s
240sx stock height rally beater = life car
TXs14 If stock height means a 3-4" lift I'm on board.
no need for lift, they sit high enough stock. 3-4" would be wayyy too much imo
I agree. My 240 is stock ride height and it clears almost everything on the road and it's pretty good in the dirt too! It just needs a skid plate and diff cover and I would be comfortable on dirt roads. I actually get asked if it's lifted pretty frequently, which I think is funny.
We miss you guys... haven't seen new videos for some time...
Thanks, we're glad to be back!
Damn that was sooo funny :))) "rental car" i didn.t see that coming =))
FANTASTIC!!!

My Subaru right in that life car zone :)
Whag watch are you wearing
For me my 2K5 RSX Type S (with A-Spec) I'd place it at between a Daily Driver and Life Car (got it new). ;-)
The RSX shown in the video I'd call a "Scalloped" RSX because of the cutouts for head and tail lights in the bumpers (I had a 2K2 RSX Type S).
this video is underrated
Add a shifter kart to that motorcycle box. But, alas, they're not road worthy.
I say on the low cost number 10 on the fun scale would be one-time wonders. You know the cars that you bought for dirt cheap but don't care to do maintenance at all to them and just thrash them, but who knows.
For rallycross it’s hard to beat a used n/a Impreza on the cost vs fun ratio.
So UA-cam terminated the guys channel??
Would have liked to see more examples plotted on the graph. I know where my car belongs though!
liked the burn on motorcycles at the end.. hahah
So where do mopeds fall
wassup team O'Neil thanks for the video
i like to make sure that all of my cars a super hoot to drive
The small cars they have in India that cost like $3500 brand new look really fun
volvo 240!
Volvo 240 in winter or on dirt is definitely in the rental car range. :P
I can vouch for that. I drive a 245
Motorcycles can be expensive too.
And where it says "rental cars" I would write "civics" because rustbuckets are fun too.
Lol, we don't like to talk about civics. They definitely do not have the best fan club, but are good cars.
Already got my life car. 2011 sti limited built
1:55 - 2:10 this guy gets me :D
I want to be on the verge of death when I'm having the most fun on/in a motorized vehicle! If it's a car, it better be really really fast!
I think a beater could also fit in with rental car... Low cost, low worries, potentially big fun. Lots of beater rallycrossers.
This is lit 🔥🔥🔥
BMW with 3liter diesel engine. ~220hp + can be easily tuned to 250-300hp, cheap to drive, good daily drive. Comes in different models - from 5 series sedan, to 3 series coupe.

1985 Rx7 streetport 12A.. Lots of power, not much traction on gravel = FUN
1978 Corolla with streetport 12A, cage and welded diff.. super light, bloody hairy to drive = FUN
Currently, it's a 1994 Dodge diesel dually 4x4.. Whole other animal, 500 hp and 1000 ft lbs still makes a 7500 lb beast rather entertaining..

I subscribed when he said rental cars.
its official. O'Neil rally school has said that the vw beetle is a motorcycle. its gonna get me killed. bring it on.
It reminds me the Hot Crazy Matrix : D
I was wondering what the unicorn was..... maybe it's a hoonicorn
Fun scale would be changed while the driving skills changed.
Or life situation.
Haha brilliant!
the fun we have had wyatt,....
Where do kit cars and all the LS swapped monstrosities fall on this graph. Or a lifted cross trek Sti swapped.
Just a hot/crazy scale.. Vicky Mendoza diagonal
"People that love STIs" :') :') :')
I am a simple guy, I see an old VW Lupo, I buy it.
I only get 10 miles a gallon :D but still love my car
Gokarts? :)
Being mechanically inclined makes that scale way better, $500 civics/Swifts ect,
A true car enthusiast will have fun driving any car, because non-car enthusiasts would rather sit in the passenger seat.
Wei Wang Agreed!!!
Cool. I have a Life Car.
$700 v6 VN commodore, weld the diff and turn key for instant fun
Bmw e30 - life car
5 on the $ scale, 10 on the fun scale. = Lemons Car
If a miata is above 8 fun and over a five price an FB RX7 with a 4.77 kia sportage diff is a unicorn.
so youre saying everyone should get a miata XD, miatas are fun as hell to drive and dirt cheap
Fr-s

Rental area is the jeep Cherokee xj. Lol
LMAO you forgot to put the cheap sports car teen killer, the MR2, in the bottom right section
Motorcycle or geo metro
i'd have put beater cars instead of rental cars
Danger zone! 😆
Nissan leaf. Instant torque and cheep to run.
My rallycross rating so far :
VW Golf (aba) Fun : 10
Civic Si 2000 Fun : 7
BMW 318ti Fun : pending
There are no cars that I'd prefer walking over..
Chiron is 10 in $ 6 in fun
